My journey began in Dodge City, Kansas in 1961. I heard something scratching at the back door and I opened it to find a precocious Pug who wandered into my kitchen to own my home for the next few minutes. He walked through every room, every nook and cranny, looking at what I had and didn't have until he came back to that back door and scratched to get out. After he left to wander on up the street, my husband asked, "What on Earth was that?" I replied, "I don't know but I am going to have one of them."
BAILEY, My Foundation Girl
I purchased Bailey after seeing that big, fat girl when she was four weeks old. I had been given sage advise to buy the best girl that I could find and go from there. I did and she was. Bailey won the sweepstakes in San Antonio at the age of 12 months of age. She earned her ROM with her first litter and Dam of the year in 2001 at the Pug Dog Club of America National Specialty in Denver, CO. Bailey left me at the age of 12, shortly after she lost my husband, the love of her life.
Pipi
Someday I will write a story about Pipi, the Queen of Pugdom. When Pipi was born, they broke the mold. Pipi arrive to me from my dear friend in Shannon, New Zealand, Merle Sayles, as a NZ champion ready to show in the Eukanuba Show in Long Beach and to make her new life with us in our Kansas home. My life changed forever! She is too smart for her own good. Just last night, she woke me up at 1230am to tell me she was too warm and wanted me to do something about it.
Today
At the present time, I have five Pugs who share my home full time. Waylon, Jellibean, Pipi, Reese and Gianni. Since that day in 1962 when I saw my first Pug, I have had at least 100 Pugs in my life. I don't want to face a life without them. They are my sunshine, gentle rain and warm hearts. They are the reason.
