Kathryn Grace Patton was born April 20,2009 with a rare blood disorder called Diamond Blackfan Anemia.  To date she has had over twenty blood transfusions.  She receives these blood transfusions every three to four weeks.  Thankfully, we have had several loving friends donate blood through StonyBrook Blood Bank for her on a regular basis.  Diamond Blackfan Anemia (DBA) affects only 600 children in the North American region.  It is characterized by an inability to make red blood cells, which carry oxygen to vital organs.  Katie needs these blood transfusions to survive.
