"Boat and Tote"

PRESS RELEASE

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY

June 30, 2011

Keep the Rez Beautiful (KRB) encourages boaters to “Boat and Tote”

In an on-going attempt to keep Barnett Reservoir users focused on the importance of removing your trash and litter from the waterways of the Barnett Reservoir, an awareness event will be held this Saturday, July 2, 2011 at the Ratliff Ferry Boat Launch in Madison County (1275 Ratliff Ferry Road, Canton, MS 39046). Although moderate success has been achieved by informing the public of this important issue, key success comes through actual practice by the users of the Barnett Reservoir.

Keep the Rez Beautiful (KRB) encourages boaters on the Reservoir to tote their trash to boat launches and deposit in the proper containers. Dumpsters will be set up at the Ratliff’s Ferry and Coal’s Bluff boat launches. Recycling bins will be set up at Ratliff’s Ferry in an effort to make it easy for boaters to recycle aluminum cans. To promote the effort, members of KRB will be passing out huggies and other goodies at Ratliff’s Ferry on Saturday. Stop by and visit, and don’t forget to “boat and tote.” Live music and other activities will be held at the boat launch Saturday, as well.

WLBT had two video reports over the weekend.  The first "Pack It In Pack It Out" appeared to be taken from or near Overlook park on July 3, 2011.  The second "Trash problem could force sandbars to be closed" was filmed at Eddie's Island on or near the 4th of July.  The first gave a rather positive outlook but the second was a lot more negative.  Go to the RSS Links Page and visit the WLBT Local news or click on the item names above.
