Kindergarten Room Green 1 - kindergartenroomorange1

Welcome to Orange Room 1

Welcome to the beginning of Kindergarten! This will be an exciting year! We will begin by getting to know eachother! Making friends and trusting one another is most important in these first few weeks. We are learning about Giving All Five on the carpet (eyes on teacher, lips closed, ears open, french fried fingers, criss cross applesauce) and following our classroom and school rules 1. No Hands On! 2. Always Try your Best! 3. Be Respectful to Everyone! As the year progresses, the demands will increase. Your child should know all 26 letters and most sounds by winter break. They should be able to sound out and write consonant vowel consonant words (like pet, hot, or tin) by the end of the year. They should be able to read all 37 high frequency words by the end of the year. In Math, your child should be able to count items up to 20 and write the numeral that goes with the number of items. For example, if you give your child 18 cheerios, they should count them all, then write the number 18 and draw a picture of 18 cheerios or other objects. A good idea might be to have a "Counting Jar" at home. Use a plain glass jar or plastic jar from the Dollar Store and fill it with up to 20 random objects. Change the number and contents regularly. Have your child practice removing and counting all items, and draw a representation of what they counted with pictures and numerals.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about your child this year!
