This is the view looking left
This is one of three rivers that intersect with downtown Pittsburg.

Feeling Welcome
Jeff and I have felt so welcome and supported already. This is a school that loves God and it's people!

The Center of Campus
Isn't it great?

Very Old building :)
The first collegiate basketball game in the nation was played here. Now the gym is used for Geneva's intramurals.

Women's Residence Hall
All students pretty much live on campus for all four years. It's really similar to George Fox that way.

Some Faculty Offices

This used to be an old church. It's a beautiful building. The bells now ring like clock chimes on the hour.

We heard the bells ring for mass while we were on the river walk which is right below the church.

So many places to eat!
Jeff and I ate at this very expensive jazz restaraunt on the river. It was so fun to celebrate that way!

You can even eat on the boat
Seriously...you make reservations with any restaraunt on the river and they'll set up private dining on one of the boats

Hi Jeff!

The river walk was big
We didn't realize how long the river walk was until our boat tour. There is so much history.

Steve, Janet & Jeff

Huh? Who let this guy in here?

The Brownings...
They were the folks that wrote "how do I love thee, let me count the ways..." Baylor holds a lot of their works here.

Mike & Pam checkin' it out
There is a sculpture of the Browning's hands in the alcove where people propose.

My Dad takes a lot of pictures!
I guess that runs in the family, because so do I!

Mike & Pam Welstad
It was so fun to have our parents down here for the week!

The Pied Piper in stained glass
Robert Browning actually wrote the Pied Piper story for a little friend who was at home sick.

Just looking...
I think Jeff & I did and saw more in the last 10 days with our family that we had the whole 2 years we lived here in TX!

We think this is funny...very TX

Rudy's BBQ, a real TX experience

BBQ is smoked meat
When we first moved here we quickly found out that in TX, BBQ is smoked meat and 'grilling' is hamburgers and hot dogs.

This place is fun
They give you a hunk of meat on a peice of wax paper and several slices of white bread. Pretty fun & full of TX culture

Another local hot spot
I know it doesn't look like much but this place has the best kolaches in the world. It's bread w/ ham & cheese inside.

Dad loved this place!
It's all homemade...can't beat that.

This is where astronauts train for weightlessness. The 2 chords on top of the water are the astronauts training.

Largest pool in the world
This is the largest pool in the world and it has full scale duplicates of the shuttle & parts of the space station in it

They have a team of divers
A team of divers work w/ the astronauts. They spend at least 6 hours under water at a time when they're training here.

The pool is 40 feet deep

underwater pictures
This is a picture of the astronauts training under water that day. They have cameras down there to watch them.

Practicing repairs
The two astronauts training that day will be going to live on the space station in the next few months to do repairs.

Building the space station
This is a huge picture of three astronauts doing a space walk to build the space station. That's just amazing to me.

The underwater world of space
I just couldn't get over how incredible the training environment in the pool was. You can see a lot of the equiment here

Mission Control
For security reasons Mission Control was built with no windows. You're looking at something top secret

Inside Mission Control
This room is Mission Control for the space station. They're controlling it from this room & talking w/ the astronauts.

Where are they?
These screens keep track of where the space station is in orbit. It circles the earth every 45 minutes.

Mission control works long days
The top people in Mission Control work 12 hour days and there is someone there 24 hours a day every day.

Astronaut in the space station

This is where it all happens for the space shuttle. This is Mission Control for the launches & shuttle missions.

Talking to Mission Control
This astronaut is talking to mission control about the inventory and supplies on the station.

Another pic of Mission Control
We weren't allowed to use flash photography in most of the places we went, that's why it's all a little blurry.

They are going to fly a lot
NASA is going to do 16 shuttle flights to finish building the space station by 2010. They had a training drill that day.

Mission control screens
Mission Control is an intense place. They had a training drill to simulate a shuttle mission that morning

Bill Foster oversaw Columbia
Bill is the man that deals with the take off and landing of the shuttle. He was the one in charge when Columbia happened

This man came to talk to us and he's working in Mission Control for a long time. He's overseen 23 shuttle missions.

Where they test everything
This chamber is where they test satalites, equipment, etc. to see if it can handle the extreem temperatures of space.

This is the door to the chamber

Big & Extreem
They can get this chamber so hot & so cold that it emulates space. They also have the ability to take away all oxygen

A second chamber
In this chamber they test all the space suites and things like that. It can get to minus 450 degrees.

Jeff & I in front of the door
This should give you a small idea of how big this thing actually is.

The next stage of space travel
This is a prototype of the next shuttle that the astronauts will go into space with. They train in this room.

This is a prototype of a robot
This robot can thred a needle. It's pretty advanced even if it looks kind of funny. They want it to go into space.

Everything old is new again...
NASA is moving back towards Apollo style shuttle/rockets because they had so much success and few problems.

A piece of the space station
This is the piece of the space station that the astronauts in the pool were training to fix.

We saw the middle astronaut!
The middle astronaut was in this room training to be back up for Expedition 14 (the next group to live at space station

More space station training
We weren't allowed to go inside but there was a high level group from the government that went in.

World endevor
I had no idea how many countries were involved in the building of the space station. It could be parts or astronauts, etc

A German Cosmonaut
This man has logged a lot of hours in space. He was leading around the government group.

Pretty Big
When the space station is all done you'll be able to see it with your naked eye during the day. It's that big.

Shuttle training
This is a full scale version of the shuttle that the astronauts train in.

Docking training
This is a model of the nose of the shuttle that pilots use to train to dock onto the space station

round green thing...
The is what we've been using to send up supplies to the space station. We fly from Russian soil right now

Your looking at a testing area
This is an area we weren't permited to go into. They're doing testing, training, etc. back there.

Another view of the shuttle
I couldn't believe how big this plane was.

An Astronaut
There was another astronaut showing the government group around with the German Cosmonaut. You can't see it very well...

The nose of the shuttle docking
This is the training shuttle nose in the position that it would be to dock onto the space station.

NASA Space Shuttle

Apollo 13
This is in "historic mission control." This is a plaque that the crew of Apollo 13 gave to the team at Mission Control

This is what the plaque said
It was an incredible feeling being in the same room where so much history has happened.

Mission Control technology
This was cutting edge in the 60's. Pretty incredible how far we've come.

Jeff sitting in Mission Control
This is where person who oversaw the flight operations sat for all the first space missions.

This flag has been on the moon
I thought this was really cool. This flag was on the moon at some point. I didn't get the whole story but it's special.

The flag
All the flags they take to the moon or in space have a wire across the top of them so they look like their flying.

Entering Mission Control
This is the lobby of Mission Control. The elevators only go to three floors but there are other floors in the building.

Mission Plaques
Each mission has a plaque that the crew helps design with the NASA artist. They're very symbolic and held in great honor

leaving Mission Control
This was the last stop for us on our 4 1/2 hour VIP behind the scences tour. It was a great gift, thank you Mom & Dad!

Not area 51 but...
Very cool to find out there are secret floors in this building. I'm sure they're not that secret, just high security.
