For those who've been interested....
The Mid Ohio Colt Football League (MOCFL) officially voted on our league joining theirs on December 29th, 2011. They voted to allow us to join however, there are some stipulations that we will need to work through along the way but doesn't seem to be a big deal.
The next step was for our league, Knox County Colt Football League (KCCFL) to hold an official vote on joining the MOCFL. Our meeting was held yesterday, January 8th, 2012. We reviewed and discussed at length the stipulations that the MOCFL has given us prior to voting. The vote was 9 "FOR" joining, and only 1 "AGAINST". So, it looks like we now have a lot of work ahead of us!
We also voted on changing our name to the Mt. Vernon Colt Football League (MVCFL). I think that vote was 6-3 for the name change. It only makes sense to change our name since we are going to be representing Mt. Vernon in the MOCFL. Also going forward, any children that are not in the Mt. Vernon City School District but have been playing in our league, will be grandfathered in and can continue finishing out their colt league years with us. From this point forward though, all new children signing up will need to be enrolled in Mt. Vernon Schools, this will include children that may live in other districts but are open enrolled in Mt. Vernon Schools. Our flag program will still be open to the county, the age group for flag will be lowered to 5-6 year olds.
The MOCFL divisions are: Big Colt 11,12, 13 year olds (13 and 1st time 6th grader); Little Colt 9, 10 year olds; Jr. Colt 7, 8 year olds. I understand that in the past seasons the MOCFL have had a few possible deviations: IF necessary, first year 9 year olds will be permitted to play in the Jr. Colt division with MOCFL board approval. Likewise, a 10 year old may be permitted to move up into the Big Colt division IF necessary and with MOCFL board approval. Would be on a case by case situation with size and ability considered, and would have to be approved by MVCFL prior to requesting permission from the MOCFL.
Generally, games will now be played on Saturdays after the JV games unless a conflict comes up and a game needs to be played on a different day. This helps us out with scheduling by allowing us to use the officiating crew that works the JV game, while also having the EMS folks aware that we are playing afterwards. We will follow Ohio Jr. High School rules for the most part. The only weight restriction imposed by the MOCFL will be on the Jr. Colt level and limits any player advancing the ball to 100 lbs.
The items above are just some of the highlights that I have right now. I will post the official rules as soon as they are available. I do have last season's rules but they made some changes for the upcoming 2012 season. I know that several of you will have questions and I will attempt to answer all of them that have to do with the format and league change. I will NOT address any comments or questions that challenge the direction the league is taking, that time has come and gone. This change will be positive for our program and we are all looking forward to the new season ahead of us. It's going to take a lot of work so, anyone willing to volunteer some time would be awesome! Also, we need coaches in place as soon as possible so that we can start geting prepped for the season.
