The mission of KOAH is to provide a positive and fun school program for military children whose parent(s) are (or are going to be) deployed, on a remote tour, on temporary duty assignments, or any other military family seperation. We intend to successfully fulfill our mission through positive support from military spouses, educational professionals, and military mentors.
The purpose of KOAH is to make a positive difference in the lives of military children through emotional and positive support during their time away from their military mother or father while providing valuable insight to resources and information to military parents.
First Kids of America's Heroes (KOAH) After School Program Reaches Out to School-Aged Military Children at Little Rock AFB
A first of its kind in Arkansas, this non-profit afterschool program is set to launch in December in order to encourage military children with parents who are deployed, on a remote, or an extended TDY.
Military children are often overlooked and underestimated when it comes to family separation. These little people are caught between child-hood and growing up too fast, but many times parents forget the child’s emotions and stress to the situations are displayed in different ways.
Founded by Beth Mahoney, a military wife and mother of three elementary school students at Arnold Drive Elementary School on Little Rock AFB, the KOAH program was designed around the goals and values of her latest military children’s book, “Meet Robby the C-130”. The mission of KOAH is to provide a positive and fun afterschool program and support group for Elementary School military children whose parent(s) are deployed, on a remote tour, or on an extended temporary duty assignments primarily through military spouses, educational professionals and military mentors.
With the assistance and support of the staff and PTO at Arnold Drive Elementary School, the Airman & Family Readiness Center, and the Family Advocacy on Little Rock AFB, KOAH became widely recognized as an extremely needed program for the children. Over 250 military children attend Arnold Drive Elementary School and almost every child has or will be experiencing a parent’s deployment or remote tour. These statistics alone indicate the program will be a great asset to the military children and their parents.
