Children from Carney-Nadeau’s Kindergarten class had the opportunity to visit Treichel’s Christmas Tree Farm on December 6^th.  This special day each December is one of our favorite days of the entire school year.  I don’t know who gets more excited…the children, or the adults!  J 

 

On Friday, December 3^rd Ed Jenkins excitedly came to the kindergarten classroom because he had received a special letter and he wanted to share it with the class.  The letter was from Santa Clause and it was addressed to the Carney Kindergarten class.  The letter explained how Santa himself had chosen Miss Kitty and Mr. Eric to open a tree farm in Carney so that children and families in the area could choose special Christmas trees to decorate in their homes each year.  It went on to say what special people the Treichel’s are and that they truly are Santa’s special helpers here in Carney. 

 

The children remembered this special story as they boarded the school bus on Monday morning to head to the tree farm.  They waited with anticipation as the bus drove down the highway and then the dirt road to the Treichel’s Christmas Tree farm.  Once the bus arrived at the tree farm the children saw Mr. Eric and Miss Kitty from the letter…they truly are Santa’s helpers after all!  It was finally time to get off the bus and the children took off with excitement as they scoped out the perfect tree for their classroom.  Their job was to inspect each tree and when they heard the whistle they were to gather around their favorite tree.  The tree with the most children would be cut down so that they could drag it to the bus.  The children searched and searched.  Some wanted a tree that was just a bit too small, and others wanted a tree so big it wouldn’t have fit into the classroom!  In the end the children gathered around a gorgeous pine while chanting, “This one, this one, this one…” The tree was perfect and it stands proud and tall in the kindergarten classroom. 

 

Year after year it warms my heart to visit Treichel’s tree farm with my kindergarten class.  My Christmas wish is that you and your family have the opportunity to visit a magical place like this one, and that you get to take home one of Santa’s special trees while making lasting memories with the ones you love.  A special thank you to Miss Kitty and Mr. Eric for their generosity and hospitality again this year!

On November 2nd two gentlemen from the Menominee County Road Commission came to Carney Elementary to talk to our students about playing safe in the winter months.  The children were reminded to wear bright colored clothing in winter for better visibility.  They were also instructed to never build snowforts or tunnels near roads or driveways because it is not a safe choice.  The children watched a movie that showed them the view from a snowplow truck driver's seat.  We found out that the drivers cannot see very good when they are plowing and that we need to stay away from roads so that we are always safe.  A big thank you to the Menominee County Road Commission for coming to school and reminding us how to play safe during the winter.   

We had a spooktacular Halloween in kindergarten this year.  We started the festive season by making spiders out of terra cotta plant pots.  The children painted them, added 8 pipe cleaner legs and finished the projects with wiggle eyes and glittery mouths! 

 

On October 29th we enjoyed a Halloween party which was planned and run by two of our favorite high school students Lacie Schetter and Kaylee Schetter.  We played Halloween Memory, Pass the Pumpkin, and Wrap the Mummy.  The children had great fun with these fun games!

 

To end our day we dressed in costume and paraded around the high school gym for everyone to see.  We looked great in our costumes and the kids can't wait to make a traveling Halloween book complete with pictures of them in their costumes.  Check out the new Halloween pictures updated to the website!  Enjoy!     

On October 13, 2010 the Carney-Nadeau Volunteer Fire Department visited Carney Elementary for Fire Safety Month.  The students got an up close look at firemen and firewomen in their protective gear.  They heard what it would sound like if a firefighter had to crawl into a burning building with their oxygen tank on.  They reviewed ways to be safe in an emergency fire situation and the children were reminded to go home and check for smoke detectors in their houses.

 

The students were invited to explore a fire truck and a tanker truck outside.  They got an up-close view of all the important equipment and machinery needed to successfully fight fires.  A big thank you goes out to the Carney-Nadeau Volunteer Fire Department for visiting our school again this year to remind us how to be safe in the event of a fire!  Thank you!!!

 

A reminder to all parents...please change the batteries in your smoke detectors this month in honor of Fire Safety Month.
