Wow, things are very busy in the Burton home.  Keith has been working non-stop to get things ready for the racing season.  Check out the team website (www.burtonracing.com) to see what he's been up to.  We look forward to reporting on Burton Racing's success throughout the year, in the Grand-Am Contintental Tires series.

Kayla continues to do well.  I try to take pictures whenever I can.  I figure the everyday shots are the most fun.  She is becoming much more vocal- I wouldn't say she's talking by any means (or maybe she is- we just don't know what she's saying!), but she's cooing and making noises that sound like "Ha" or "Huh" or she'll gurgle or try to laugh.  It's pretty cute.  She just grows one day at a time!  She finds her hands and fists absolutely fascinating.  She must think they taste good too, as I frequently find her attempting to eat her entire hand.  She is coming up on 5 months old- hard to believe.  Enjoy the latest photos!

 

Here it is, mid-January, almost.  I added some more pictures to the January album.  One project that we completed this week was to hang the decal in the nursery above the crib.  Keith's Dad and Linda made the vinyl saying for us, and we have finally gotten around to getting it up.  Kayla has been her usual self this week:  sweet disposition, good sleeper, all around great gal.  :-)  Keith and I are constantly saying how blessed we feel- of course we are biased, but we think she's pretty amazing!  A new toy for her this week is this contraption called a Bumbo seat.  For those who don't know what it is, it's kind of like a heavy foam chair, pint-sized just for infants.  My friend Kim is letting us borrow hers (since her daughter Leena has outgrown it).  Kayla's head control is doing well, so I thought she would enjoy sitting up a little bit more.  She seems to enjoy the new look on life!

 

I also started a new album called "Instagram."  Instagram is a new program I found, where you can start with a picture you've taken and then add filters/ shading/ blurring/ frames/ other artistic touches.  I haven't done a lot with it just yet, but it's kind of fun.  The first picture I used was one of Kayla's 4-month photos.  I added a shading on it that makes it kind of "vintage," I guess.  Just something fun to do once in a while.  I'll add more as I play around with it and find something interesting to post.

Weekend update:  well, we tried our best to cheer on the Denver Broncos in their playoff game.  Even Kayla got into the spirit of rooting for Daddy's "hometown" team (I guess Mommy could kind of claim it, too).  But all her cuteness couldn't help the Broncos.  Oh well, now we are looking forward to having the Super Bowl here in Indianapolis in only a few weeks!

After over two weeks off of work (for Stephanie, anyway), it was time to get back into a routine.  2012 has started off with a bang, and I don't think things will slow down any time soon.  Keith is very busy working on exciting stuff for Burton Racing for the race season this year.  He hasn't really had an "off-season" this Winter, but that's ok as he really enjoys his work and I think he likes keeping busy.  Stephanie is still enjoying an altered work schedule (working from home 4 days per week, going into the office one day).  It is so nice to have some extra time with our sweet Baby Kayla.

And sweet she is!  She continues to amaze us every day.  Today was her 4-month check-up with the Pediatrician.  She is doing great!  Her weight is up to 10 lb, 15.5 oz (so, basically 11 pounds), and she is almost 23 inches long.  She was a champ with all her shots- and it made her sleepy the rest of the day.  She is doing just great in all her developmental milestones.  Though her "adjusted age" is only 2 months, she is doing things that far exceed that age, and even does a few things a normal 4-month old baby would do!  Her head strength is great, she's focusing on objects, smiling and cooing, and starting to push herself up when on her tummy.  Her pediatrician is very pleased with her progress.  We are grateful that Kayla continues to grow and do well.

 

I started a new photo album for January (2012) where we'll put some of our every day shots over the next few weeks.  We hope you enjoy them!  Stay warm this winter.

The days are moving quickly now... only a couple more days until Christmas!  This year, although we now have a child (or maybe because of it), and because we are trying to be so careful with taking her out a lot, it's been quiet in many ways.  It's really offered us a chance to savor the season.  We tried to do some Advent readings (we've done this the past couple of years as a way to focus on the true Meaning of Christmas) and have enjoyed lighting candles and settling in for some quiet times (and treats!) each evening.  We've driven around and looked at lights in different neighborhoods (not sure she was awake for that, really).  We've watched some Christmas movies.  It's easy to want to make each holiday meaningful for Kayla, and you want to cram all the traditions you know into the days... but really, she's so small and doesn't know one day from the next yet.  We are looking forward to building traditions with her as she grows.  One thing we definitely laugh about now, though... the fact that 90% (or more!) of the Christmas presents under the tree are for Kayla!  Who are Keith and Stephanie?  Ha ha.  We aren't overly "gifty" people anyway, so I think it's just fine.  :-)

The end of the year brings many milestones for our family.  Both Keith and I have birthdays in November, and of course there are all the holidays.  We are enjoying having Kayla around this year; though she is not very interactive at this age, I think that by next year she will really be getting into the spirit of Thanksgiving and Christmas!  And we can't wait to be able to share her more broadly with all of the family.  We appreciate your patience with us while little Kayla grows and gets stronger!  We have managed to keep her healthy so far.

This weekend I took the dogs' annual birthday photo (see above).  Zoe turned 6 on August 1, and Samson will be 4 on August 11.  M,y how time flies!  They have really turned into great dogs.  They still are lively and energetic, as is typical of the Boxer breed, but they are really pretty easy to take care of these days.

I'm a few days late posting all these pictures, but I posted an album of most of our pictures from Ocean City.  We had a fabulous time with the family and getting our fix of sun, sand, and surf!  We went with Mom and Dad a few days before everyone else, so we were able to settle in, hit the beach, walk on the boardwalk and through the sand.  We played mini golf and took a side trip to Bethany Beach, DE.  After the family arrived, it was lots of playing in the surf, plus time for family pictures and also some fun on the boardwalk rides.  Enjoy the pictures!

This weekend I did a little work in the backyard, weeding some beds and trimming the hosta plants that the dogs unfortunately used as mattresses one hot day this week... I decided to take some pictures of what all is going on around the ol' homestead.  I'm not doing much yardwork this year, but I can still enjoy what we do have!  See the pictures in the "2011-06-11_Backyard" album!

Summer is definitely here in Indy!  Over Memorial Day weekend, our peony bush was in full bloom, so I cut a few and put them in a pretty blue bucket to decorate our foyer.  Luckily I was able to take a few pictures of my little arrangement - see the "Spring Fun" album to the right.

The other morning was so pleasant, I decided to take a trip downtown to the Zoo and Gardens to see what was blooming.  Keith was traveling, so I just took a nice, leisurely stroll by myself.  I first stopped into the zoo, and saw the new Bats exhibit for the summer (though I didn't get a great picture of them).  I always enjoy going down there to see what is new or to visit some favorite animals (like the dolphins).  As the zoo got more crowded, I headed over to the gardens.  They still have the Orchid exhibit going on in the Conservatory, so I quickly moved through that (since we'd seen it a couple of times already) and headed outside.  I think we are in between blooming seasons- I missed the tulips, but other than some roses, it was mostly a lovely collection of greenery and foliage.  A few irises were left (yea!) but all that means is I will have to go back again real soon!  Enjoy the pictures.

Keith and I had a great time over the weekend back in Iowa for the Easter Holiday.  We were able to drive out Thursday evening and spend the whole weekend.  On Friday and Saturday during the day, Keith worked with Dad and Grandpa Love on a cradle for the baby.  Friday night we got together with Aunt Vickie and Uncle Jim, Matt and Heidi and all the boys.  Unfortunately, I was having so much fun I forgot to take pictures!  :-(  But we had a great time.  Sunday after church, we gathered at Aunt Linda and Uncle Pierce's for dinner and the Easter Egg Hunt.  All the kids had a blast and were very excited to have some fun (or was that all the sugar?).

 

We had a great time seeing everyone!  It is always nice to come "home" and visit.  We look forward to seeing you again soon... next time with the Little One in tow!  Thanks again for a great weekend, everyone.

This weekend I'm in Denver visiting Mom for our not-so-annual girls' weekend!  Friday Mom treated me to tea at the Brown Palace Hotel downtown.  It was very elegant and wonderful.  We each had a pot of tea and they brought a bunch of goodies including scones and cream, tea sandwiches, and pastries.  There were several other groups of ladies and little girls there for tea as well.  It was a great way to spend the afternoon, chatting away.  Thanks, Mom!  More fun awaits tomorrow!

 

We enjoyed a visit from Keith's folks (Jim and Linda) for Christmas this year.  They arrived on Sunday the 19th, and we enjoyed spending the week before Christmas seeing several sights around Indianapolis.  We went to the Indiana State Museum, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra's Yuletide Celebration, the Indiana History Center, and a day trip to the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Museum in Auburn, IN.  The "2010_Christmas" album has some of the highlights.  After they left, Keith and I made a trip to the Garfield Park Conservatory, a park on the south side of town that we had not been to before.  It was a nice way to close out the festive season.

My friend from work, Megan, and I spent a wintry day baking Christmas cookies and making other goodies.  We made sugar cookie cut-outs, cherry-pistachio bark, butterhorns, and a new recipe, eggnog snowmen cut-outs!  We didn't even finish up the Oreo Truffles (aka "Death By Chocolate") or the chocolate cream cheese rugelach, or even start on the cashew brittle we had planned... there's still time before Christmas, though!  We couldn't have asked for a better day- the snow was falling all day long (I took pictures of the yard in the morning so you can see), we played Christmas music and had a great time making all the goodies.  This is the second year we've done this- it's a lot of fun to make treats with a friend!

I just posted up our few pictures from Thanksgiving this year.  We had a great visit with everyone out east.  We enjoyed staying with Grandma and Grandpa (and they even beat us soundly in Wii Bowling), and also with Brian and Amye and the kids.  It is fun to watch everyone grow.  Brian deep-fried a turkey for the first time ever, and it was very good.  We stuffed ourselves silly and got the holiday season off to a great start.  Now it's already December!  Our 35th birthdays are now behind us (yikes- where does the time go?) and we are gearing up for Christmas.  Enjoy this brief and wonderful time of the year!

Sorry, we've been quiet for a while- haven't really done much of interest, and have been busy with other craziness (like that CT scan scare a few weeks ago).  I've been meaning to post the latest pictures for a while- back in mid-October we took the canoe for a final trip around Eagle Creek Reservoir.  We let our trolling motor do all the work, so we made good time covering a lot of the lake- even over to the Eagle Creek Sailing Club which is hidden in a little alcove off the main body of the reservoir.  Enjoy the pictures!  We are looking forward to Thanksgiving next week- I'm sure we'll have plenty of pictures to post then!

We've had a good start to the fall season this weekend.  After Keith returned from his latest race week, we went downtown to see the White River Gardens' latest display using art made from recycled materials.  Fun and creative!  Then, on a cool blustery day, we took Zoe for a hike around nearby Eagle Creek park.  She had a great time playing a bit in the water and watching all the waterfowl.  We have taken the canoe out a couple of times, and hopefully if there's a few warm evenings left that we can take her out again before the weather gets too cold.  Enjoy the two new albums at right!

Well, our time is coming to a close, and we've had a wonderful time here in Iowa this week.  We've had a great time seeing all the family we could, and thank you all so much for your hospitality.  In the "2010_IowaMisc" album are some shots from our canoe trips to Ada Hayden Heritage Park in Ames, the dogs' first swims, and our time with the Welch clan on Labor Day.  

Labor Day weekend and the week following, we headed to Iowa to spend sometime with extended family and to get some R & R.  One of our first excursions was to see the Burns clan up in NW Iowa.  Aunt Vickie and Uncle Jim were camping near Lake Okoboji, and Shelly and Chris agreed to bring their girls over so we could all enjoy a visit.  I hadn't even met little Samantha yet, and here she was, over a year old already!  Anyway, Keith and I enjoyed the beautiful Iowa countryside.  We saw lots of new Windmills, harvesting the wind.  We saw lots of lovely farmsteads, and one thing I thought was cool was that many people were starting to decorate their barns with "Barn Quilts."  Near as I can figure, these are large wood panels painted to resemble quilt squares.  Kind of neat!  I tried to snap a picture of one.  It is towards the end of the album in the "090510_ArnoldsPark" album.  This is the first installment of our Labor Day Week Iowa Vacation!  Stay tuned!

I'm working on getting more pictures posted from the last couple of weeks.  The last weekend in August, I got together with my girlfriends for our 2nd annual Girls' Weekend getaway in Brown County, IN!  3 of the 8 were expecting, but that didn't stop us from hitting the shops in downtown Nashville, IN.  We truly cherish our friendships!

This weekend, Keith and I wandered downtown and discovered that the finals for the Drum Corps Internationals were going on at Lucas Oil Stadium (where our beloved Indianapolis Colts play football each fall).  Having spent time in Marching Bands in the past, it was kind of funny to revisit those days watching the kids out on the field.  We watched the "Open Class" finals- these are sort of the "junior" leagues to the "World Class" corps which were performing later that night.  We thought it would be a good chance to see the inside of Lucas Oil Stadium (neither of us had ever been) as well as catch some decent entertainment.  See the album "081410_DrumCorps" for our pictures!

It's early August, and that means it's birthday time for the Burton Boxers!  Zoe's birthday is August 1, and Samson's is August 11.  This year Zoe is 5 and Samson is 3.  My, how time flies!  This weekend we took a few snapshots of them to commemorate the occasion.  I call them the annual birthday pictures.  Enjoy in our latest album to the left, "Aug10_Dogs"!  We also took a few walks in Eagle Creek Park, a nearby park and reservoir.  One day we took Samson and left Zoe at home, sunning herself in the yard.  I think they both enjoyed some alone time.

After we saw Brian and Amye off, we got a wild and crazy idea to head north and check out the area known as the Indiana Dunes.  We've been thinking of going camping up there sometime (it's a little closer than the Atlantic Ocean), so since it's just a couple of hours north of here, we decided to go for it.  Our pictures are in the "071810_IndianaDunes" album.  The campground was very nice and there were lots of trails that would be very interesting, though we didn't take the time to journey on them this day.  Enjoy our trip with us!

We just said goodbye again to Brian and Amye and the kids.  They stopped back through on their way home from their big trip to Iowa.  I wanted to post some extra pictures that Keith took on his iPhone, they are in the album "BrianAmyeVisit" to the right.  It was a short visit, but we got to have some fun on our neighborhood playground, walk around the neighborhood ponds (more pictures soon), and I got to make a special sweet surprise for the boys- cupcakes that looked like the character "Tow-Mater" from the Disney movie "Cars."  I think they liked them.  Thanks for visiting, guys!  We hope you come back again soon.

We've been busy already this 4th of July holiday.  We were anticipating the arrival of Brian and Amye and the crew, so I took some time off of work.  Keith convinced me to start my long weekend on Thursday afternoon.  We took advantage of the beautiful weather we've been having this week, and went out on Eagle Creek Reservoir and had a sailing lesson, of all things!  It was a lot of fun, but we need to keep practicing!  I don't have any pictures of that since we were so busy staying afloat- I didn't have any time for the camera.

 

Then on Friday morning, Keith arranged for us to go flying with his colleague and friend, John Anderson.  John owns a 4-seat Cessna and took us up for an hour or so above and around the city.  You can see some pictures in the "AirAndo" photo album. 

 

Brian and Amye arrived in the early evening.  We let the kids run out some energy at the neighborhood playground, then celebrated Ainsley's 2nd birthday with gifts and cupcakes.  After that, we went downtown to Victory Field to watch our minor league baseball team, the Indianapolis Indians (see "IndiansGame" album).  We enjoyed a beautiful evening, and the game concluded with an excellent fireworks show.  What a bonus!  I think everyone had a great time.  We are looking forward to their return later this month!

Not sure what is going on, but it's like August weather is here and it's only June!  Summer has just begun, and I've started adding some pictures of what we've been up to around here.  First up, just some pictures of the dogs and what's growing in the garden so far this year.  Keep checking back for more fun!

I headed up the corporate team for my work, Dow AgroSciences (DAS), for this year's Relay for Life fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.  It is a 24-hour event, and you are supposed to have someone from your team on the track (walking, running, etc) for all hours of the day and night.  As a cancer survivor, I was really touched by all the things that this event covered, and the way they honored those who survived and remembered those who have lost their battle with cancer.  I enjoyed heading up the team for DAS, and have already been asked by my teammates if I am going to do this again next year?  I say it is a good possibility, especially with everyone being so enthusiastic about it.  I definitely think there's even more we could do and build to a better team next year.  Check out my pictures in the album "061210_RelayForLife" to the right!

Keith was so excited to take me out to the Carolina Coast again and show me some of the things he'd seen on his trip to the Outer Banks, etc.  We took advantage of the long Easter weekend to take a trip to the little town of Oriental, NC.  It was a very cute, quaint, and quiet town of 900 people.  It is known as "The Sailing Capital of North Carolina," and since Keith and I have a growing interest in learning to sail, it seemed like a good place to just look around and get a feel for things.

We didn't do a whole lot over the weekend (we missed out on a chance to go sailing, actually) but you can see some of the sights of Oriental and the surrounding areas.  We stayed at a Bed and Breakfast (the Cartwright House) which was very nice.  They had bikes that we could use, which was great since the town is the kind of place where you can walk and bike to everything you want to see and do, for the most part.  You will see our blue bikes in several of the pictures.  We also took a ferry across the Neuse River, from Minnesott Beach to Cherry Branch.

Of course, it was Easter weekend, and we were able to catch a community-wide sunrise service at the park near our B & B.  That was kind of neat; hopefully my pictures came out ok (it was still dark throughout most of the service). 

I also enjoyed taking pictures of various items around town- the lines of the piers and docks; an old rusty chain; sailboats and fishing boats; seagulls; and my favorite- a rusted tandem bike with a basket on the front... and someone put Easter eggs in the bike basket!  Kids will love seeing the pictures of the "wildlife" of Oriental- the town mascot is a Dragon, and they had several painted rocks around town that made it look like dragons were 'hatching' out of eggs!

We would love to go back someday.  We certainly found a place to "get away from it all!"

Keith took a weekend trip to explore the Outer Banks area, a place we have always wanted to visit.  He drove from Charlotte up through the Raleigh-Durham area and out to the coast.  He stopped first in the Kitty Hawk/ Kill Devils Hill area, where the Wright Brothers took their historic first flight by the sea.  Then he drove south along the coastal highway, the Cape Hatteras National Seashore area, and near many wildlife refuges.  He took several ferries to cross the water when the road ended.  Finally he ended up in the little fishing/ sailing village of Oriental, NC, where he stayed in a cute Bed & Breakfast and had fun riding a bike around town and living like a local.  He definitely found many beautiful places, and we can't wait for a chance to return together and check them out!  See the pictures he took from his iPhone, in the album "2010_Outer Banks."  Enjoy!

Two new albums so you can see how we have kicked off the year so far.  Since the beginning of the year, things have really been a whirlwind for us- most of you now know that Keith accepted a job as crew chief for USF1, a new US-based Formula 1 racing team. This means that Keith is planning on working out of Charlotte, NC for the racing season.  After moving him down there in late January, I took a little respite and enjoyed some tropical flowers at our White River Gardens downtown (see "Tropical Indy" album).  I also went over to the Indianapolis Museum of Art that same day and caught some beautiful winter day photos.

Over Valentine's Day weekend, I went to Charlotte to visit Keith.  The main focus of our trip was not Charlotte, but the coast of North and South Carolina!  We found a hotel in Ocean Isle Beach, NC and drove through the back country of NC to get there.  The next day, instead of going back to Charlotte the way we came, we drove on south to Charleston, SC and then took the interstate system back to Charlotte.  See "Carolina Coast" for some pictures from our road trip.

 

One of the funniest things was seeing snow at the beach!  Who would have thought?  But the South had just gotten a few inches the day or so before I arrived, so there was still a bit of snow here and there.  There were snowmen in many front yards- even in front of the local fire department- look for their snow fireman in the pictures!

 

It was a great weekend, and we hope you all enjoyed your Valentine's day, too!

On New Year's Eve (2009), Keith and I took a day road trip up to the northern part of Indiana.  We wanted to go see one of our many state parks, Pokagon State Park, which is also situated by Lake James, which Keith had heard was a popular spot for lake homes in the summer, etc.  So we went to see what there was to see.  I have added more pictures to the December 2009 album (at right).

All too quickly it seems 2009 is coming to a close.  It is hard to believe that a whole decade is about to end!  I don't know where the year went, honestly.  We've had such a good year- keeping busy at work with challenging projects, Keith busy traveling with his race cars and building his business, a GREAT vacation out east with the Finagin side of the family (miss you all and think of OC very fondly all the time!), fun side trips around Indiana just to see what there is to see, and another GREAT holiday with all my family gathered here for Thanksgiving!

 

Our most recent album, "Dcember 2009" captures some of the fun that we had this past month.  One weekend we drove out to Mounds State Park (Anderson, IN) for a bird-themed activity (we made our own strings of bird feeders made of raisins, popcorn, cranberries, etc), but ended up walking around the park and enjoying their visitors center with stuffed wildlife displays, etc.  Then we drove east to a reservoir that Keith had heard of, but we didn't know the name or where it was (yeah, we are adventurous like that).  Turns out we discovered Prairie Creek Reservoir near New Burlington, IN.

 

We closed out the month with some festive visits to the Indianapolis Zoo and White River Gardens to see their yearly light display.  The garden conservatory was all decked out with lighted trees and even some reindeer!  Did you know that reindeer shed their antlers every year?  The two that we saw each had already lost one of their antlers.  Interesting.  Then we enjoyed a quiet Christmas here at home with the dogs.  They enjoyed their new toys (though Samson has already destroyed his new tennis ball), and we enjoyed the lovely gifts from family.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, we hosted lots of my family here in Indianapolis!  Mom and Dad brought Grandma and Grandpa Love to share the holiday with us, and Brian, Amye, and the kids all came in from Virginia.  We had a full house!  On Thanksgiving day, Keith took all the boys to the race shop while us ladies put the finishing touches on the big meal.  We all ate more than enough, for sure!

The day after Thanksgiving, Mom and Dad left with Grandma and Grandpa, and the rest of us went to the Children's Museum downtown.  I've been waiting forever to take my nephews to see the Dinosaur exhibit and all the other fun things.  They loved the dinos, exploring Egypt, and looking for frogs in the pond up in the ScienceWorks area.  Parker really seemed to like the Fireworks of Glass interactive display where you could make your own sculpture.  Ainsley was a trooper and did great as we carted her around everywhere.  We finished off the night with pizza!

Along the way, we took family photos, the boys enjoyed watching Keith make a "real fire" and we even popped popcorn over the coals.  Enjoy all our pictures (not really edited so there may be some blurry or dark ones) in the "Tgiving" albums- Dad's pix are from Mom and Dad's camera, of course, and the Children's Museum album holds all the ones we took with our camera.

This past weekend, we went with two other families from our small group to visit Stuckey Farm, a local apple orchard/ pumpkin patch.  Unfortunately the weather wasn't the best; the day before, it rained a lot and everything was so muddy, we did not wander out into the pumpkin patch to pick our own pumpkins.  Still, we all managed to load up on the apples and gourds we wanted!  Later that day, the sun came out and it was lovely, so we took the opportunity to take some pictures of our brindle boxers- who tend to blend in nicely with the fall foliage!  Can you find the dogs among the fallen leaves?  :-)  See the "2009 Autumn Fun" album for more.

Last weekend we took in the Bonsai exhibit downtown at the White River Gardens.  They had decorated the glass house conservatory in an Asian theme and had several bonsai plants on display.  We enjoyed looking at all the miniature trees, and Keith even worked on a little Zen garden (sandbox with little rake).  Afterwards we took advantage of the sunshine and walked around the outside gardens a bit, though at this time of year there is not much blooming.  The grounds were still lovely, and I think they must have had a wedding there the day prior, as the frog fountains were decorated with tiny plastic flower leis... we enjoy taking advantage of our Zoo and Gardens membership- there is always something fun or beautiful to see!

This past weekend I gathered with 7 of my friends down in Brown County, IN, a popular spot in October around here.  The 8 of us met some 10 years ago when we all attended Common Ground Christian Church and have stayed close despite the stuff of life that's come our way.  We've seen marriages, the birth of children, health concerns, and more.  It was fun to reminisce, do some shopping in the stores of Nashville, IN, play games, and talk into the wee hours of the morning.  Thanks, girls, for a great time, and we thank God for his watchful care of each of us, our families, and our friendships.  See photos in the "Girls Weekend" album!

Today I participated in the Indianapolis Corporate Challenge.  Over 90 companies converged on the IIUPUI Campus Track to participate in a variety of events both fun ('good sport') and competitive (running events).  But not too competitive.  Companies get points for the number of participants, not necessarily for winning the most events.

Recently we completed the remodel on our Master Bedroom (the bedroom part, not the bathroom yet).  We painted the ceiling a fresh white, and the walls are "Lyndhurst Gallery Beige"- a shade darker brown from the rest of the house's beige.  We decided that a teal and chocolate brown color scheme would work well, something fresh and trendy.  We found some pillows and curtains, but have not bought a new comforter yet.  In the pictures, I guess there's not even sheets on the bed, but we do have it all covered now and are using the room.

Hopefully this winter we will continue to work on the bathroom area.  We are having lots of family come for Thanksgiving, maybe we will have a functioning bathroom by then so we can all have a little more space to spread out!

The past couple of weeks we've been doing a few fun things here and there.  In early September, we went to the Indianapolis Zoo to catch the end of the Komodo Dragons exhibit.  Those are some creepy creatures, and I wouldn't want to meet one in a dark alley.  Over Labor Day weekend, we went to visit Keith's Grandma down in Phoenix.  (See "Labor Day09_PHX")  Then last weekend Mom and Dad came through Indy and we went walking on the Monon Trail on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.  The next day, though Mom and Dad were gone, Keith and I continued to walk our socks off and went downtown to the Canal Walk that runs through the city.  All these pictures can be seen in the "Indianapolis_2009" album (start around picture 95 or so).

This year, the Indiana State Fair ran for over two weeks, so we had plenty of time to find our way down to the festivities.  I found some ribbon-winning entries of my co-worker (Alice), who does a lot of hand-spun yarn and crocheting activities.  Of course I have to see what types of obnoxious fried items they are peddling to the public- this year's newest entry was chocolate covered bacon.  Yikes.  Keith and I enjoyed watching the heavyweight draft horse pulling championships- that was something new!  They load a sled with a measured weight of cinder blocks, and teams of two Belgian draft horses would pull the sled 27 feet 6 inches.  After all the teams went, then they added more weight, and went through the round again.  They got up to 9700 lbs of weight, and only one team was able to pull that 27 feet even (6 inches shy of the measured length).  Anyway, we enjoyed browsing through the draft horse stables and seeing the other animals, too.  Enjoy our pictures in the "2009 State Fair" album!

I added some more photo albums to "The Way Back Machine"- now we have some scanned photos from my childhood, and then digital pictures from 2004 to 2008, so far.  Enjoy!

Both our dogs were born in August, 2 years apart.  We took the opportunity to take some "birthday portraits" last weekend- you will find them at the end of the "2009_Summer" album.  Zoe turned 4 on August 1, and Samson turns 2 on August 11.  They both continue to be wonderful dogs, and we enjoy them.  Hopefully they like us, too!  I may even try to make a birthday cake for them this year; a co-worker gave me a recipe to try.  Fun times!

It was another beautiful Sunday afternoon here in Indy, so we packed a picnic and wandered down to the grounds on the Indianapolis Museum of Art.  Their gardens are vast and lovely, and we took a few pictures while we walked around.  I have added them to the "Indianapolis 2009" photo album.  Another wonderful spot in our city!

It's hard to believe time is flying by so quickly- here it is, almost August!  Other than our fantastic trip to Ocean City, we have been pretty low-key around here.  Keith's travel is picking up, so I usually settle into a pretty good routine of working and taking care of house/ yard/ dogs.  This past weekend I spent some time tidying up the beds around the house and taking pictures of things in bloom.  I probably missed the prime blooming time for a few things, but this is what was going on mid-July.  See the "2009_Summer" album for pictures of the yard and the dogs!

I finally got titles and descriptions on all the pictures from Ocean City, and took out a couple of lousy shots.  It was so much fun going through all these again.  Enjoy!

After returning from OC, I spent Sunday afternoon at the Woodruff Place Home and Garden Tour.  My co-worker Megan lives in this historic neighborhood and has been restoring her Victorian home.  Her house was on the tour this year so I wanted to go and support her efforts.  Hers was one of about 8 homes that you could tour, and there were another half-dozen or so homes' gardens that you could go through as well.  I had a great time seeing what everyone had done with these older homes.  One place was still very much "in progress"- the whole place was gutted to the old, dark wood of the exterior walls.  No plaster, walls, anything!  The new stairs had been put in so you could go up the stairs, but there wasn't anything to see.  That was one end of the extreme.  I took pictures of the beautiful tree-lined streets and fountains, and several of the neat old homes.  See the "Indianapolis_2009" album for more!

I've started adding some select photos from our Ocean City Vacation.  I haven't taken the time to label them all with everyone's names, etc.  A little short on time.  I have scads of pictures- a few hundred, but thought I'd try to capture the best here.  We sure enjoyed our time out East.  It was great to see family and I really enjoyed showing Keith some of the favorite things I remembered from my childhood.  Keith and I arrived in OC on Monday, about a day and a half before everyone else.  You can see what we were up to before everyone arrived:  walking the boardwalk, visiting the history museum (not sure there are photos of that), riding the carousel and the Haunted House ride, walking in the sand, and visiting Assateague Island (and getting eaten alive by the Salt Marsh Mosquitoes!).  We had a great time- wish we were still there!

Just posted some pictures from our weekend trip to Iowa over the Memorial Day Holiday.  We enjoyed touring the Carlisle and Palmyra cemeteries with Grandma and Grandpa Love and getting some family history along the way!  It was great to have lunch with Auntie, and Uncle Don and Aunt Poochie, too!  Afterwards we stopped in Ankeny to see Aunt Linda and Uncle Pierce and all the cousins and kiddos.  On Sunday we had everyone up to Ames to watch the race.  We took the kids to see the fish and ducks and geese in the ponds and to let them run around the park.  I wish some of my pictures had come out a little better, but here they are!  Enjoy!

I snapped some more pictures in the yard today- see the "Spring_2009" album.  Plants in the yard are really growing.  I planted some more Pachysandra (a ground cover) which I hope will get more established this year than last.  The Lily of the Valley is blooming, and our peony looks like it might bloom any day now.  The trees are also starting to put out leaves.  It's fun to watch things grow.  This weekend I also took the dogs on some long walks- I think I was able to wear them out!  You will see them snoozing in the pictures...

This past weekend, we were out enjoying the Spring/Summer weather all day long.  On Saturday, we helped a couple of families in our small group do some yard work.  You can see the pictures in the "Spring 2009" album.  We capped the day off with a much-deserved barbecue.  We enjoyed the fellowship!

Then on Sunday, Keith and I took the dogs down to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Humane Society's annual "Mutt Strut."  We got to walk our dogs all the way around the track, all 2.5 miles of it.  It was very well-organized, and the weather was great.  Best of all, the dogs wore out after being out in the sun and walking for so long!  They were pretty quiet that evening...  Enjoy the pictures in the "Mutt Strutt 2009" album.

I can hardly believe it is almost the month of May!

Ferrari's have invaded Burton Racing's shop!  In between the races at Road Atlanta (last week) and Infineon Raceway (next weekend), MG1 Motorsports agreed to let Keith host the car "turn-around."  This is when the cars are worked on, repaired, maintained, etc. before the next race.  Keith has had a lot of fun working with the Ferrari 430 Challenge race circuit again this year, and is very excited to be able to use our shop for some of the turn-around work.  I've been out a couple of nights this week and even took the dogs with me.  We all had a lot of fun "helping" Keith with the cars (right...).  Keith tells me I am one of a handful of women who have ever even sat in a car like this.  Enjoy the pictures!

The weather has been gorgeous the past two days so I spent some time out in the yard.  I took a few more pictures of the latest plants emerging, blooming, and growing.  I re-named the album "Spring_2009."  Enjoy!

I have uploaded all our photos from our weekend in Maryland/Virginia.  We had a great time visiting with Grandma and Grandpa Finagin and watching the boys feed the swans and enjoy the outdoors.  Then we spent Saturday and Easter Sunday with Brian and Amye and the kids.  It was a lot of fun, and the boys are very energetic!  We had a great time making string Easter eggs, coloring the real eggs, and going on a hunt for the eggs on Easter morning!  Thanks, everyone, for your wonderful hospitality.  We had such fun!

At least, we hope that Spring is here to stay in Indy.  I noticed some of the bulbs starting to come up already, and I wanted to get some shots as early Spring began.  I only took a few, but hope to add to them in the coming weeks.  Enjoy a look at "Early Spring '09"!

Well, I think I have finally finished compiling the pictures from our Colorado Vacation last fall.  Check out the photo book in the section below the journal entries on this page.  I had bought a bunch of items to do a "real" (paper) scrapbook after our trip.  But I soon realized (a) the book I bought was not nearly large enough, and (b) I did not have nearly the time I wanted to make it all look as nice as I wanted.  After finding out how easy it was to create a photo book on Shutterfly, I started playing around with my pictures here.  I am happy with the result; I have not yet ordered the print copy but probably will soon.  Enjoy our trip down memory lane!  Feel free to make comments or suggestions; I can probably change things before I go to print!

 

A couple of weekends ago, Keith and I decided to explore another part of the city that we have not yet seen.  We decided on the James Whitcomb Riley Museum Home.  JW Riley is known as the "Hoosier Poet" and was quite the popular writer in the late 1800's.  He wrote the poem "Little Orphant Annie" and "The Raggedy Man" (upon which the Raggedy Ann/Andy stories were based, by another Hoosier author, Gruelle).  He is known for writing in a rural-America vernacular style.  The home itself, Riley did not own it but just lived there the last 23 years of his life.  It has been kept as a prime example of Victorian finery since the owners of the home died in the early 1900's.  It's almost as if life stopped in 1916 (or so) and they've kept everything up since then.  It really was a fascinating look into Victorian style as well as a collection of artifiacts revolving around Riley's works.

I confess, I have never read any of Riley's poems, but I am now inspired to do so.  There was a lovely Victorian-age reprint book, a collection of his works, that I almost purchased in the gift area.  But I resisted.  Libraries are good, you know?  See the photos that we could manage (no cameras allowed inside), in our "Indianapolis 2009" album.

If you scroll down, below the "Latest News" section is a new area called "Photo Books."  Here I would like to post more projects that I make into photo books here on Shutterfly.  So, even if I don't go through the process of printing one up, you can enjoy them here.  Last year, I had a coupon for a photo book here on Shutterfly and decided to use it to make a book about the pooches.  We absolutely LOVED the quality of the book and how it came out.  I hope to do more in the future, with other topics.  I just don't think I have time for "real" scrapbooking- this is a great alternative!  Enjoy our book about the dogs!

This weekend, Keith and I went to one of our favorite places in Indy, the White River Gardens next door to the Zoo.  (See photo album "White River Gardens_09" to the right...)  Their current display is called Tropical Adventure.  Hope you enjoy our photos.  Keith took most of the close-ups- doesn't he have a good eye?  I also enjoyed playing with a few of the other settings on our digital camera.  Learning as we go...

After Christmas, Keith and I hit the road and surprised our Iowa relatives by just showing up.  We were able to see everyone- the Burns clan, the Love/Welch crew, and all the little kiddos.  We braved some black ice road conditions to make it happen, but we got to Iowa okay and had a fantastic and relaxing visit.  Oh, the dogs seemed to enjoy the trip, too!

Tonight I had the priviledge of celebrating with my friends Kim and Eugene, the first day of the rest of their lives together.  It was so great to catch up with so many friends whom I had not seen in quite some time.  Some of the pictures are a bit blurry, but I think you will still get the effect of the good times!  Congrats, Kim and Eugene!

I just uploaded some pictures of the dogs from this weekend.  I was going back and looking at all the old photos- it makes it look like our grass is green!  I guess it is in some parts, but the hot August sun is really parching our lawn.  Oh well, at least our dogs are good-looking!  :-)  Enjoy!

In the 2008 Misc album, I added a couple of pictures of my night at the Pink Ribbon Honor Roll.  As one of the top 100 fund raisers for this year's Race for the Cure in Indianapolis, I got to go to a reception.  Since Keith was out of town, I took my friend LB, for whom I walked in the race.  It was special to be able to share the celebration together!

On Monday evening, Keith and I went back to the Fair so that he could see some of the antique tractors.  We also stopped into the Pepsi Coliseum and watched some draft horse judging (Percherons and Clydesdales).  I have not yet loaded all these pictures, but check back soon in the State Fair album to see all the fun!

 

And no, we could not bring ourselves to try any severely deep-fried treats...

Today I worked at a booth sponsored by my work, Dow AgroSciences, highlighting our biotech products (insect resistance, which is what I do all day long) as well as our healthy oils, for "Biotech Days" at the State Fair.  We were grouped with our friends from The Children's Museum who were doing cool demos and projects of their own.  After working the booth, I strolled around the grounds.  See my "Indiana State Fair" album and share the fun.
