The LaFroscia Family - lafrosciafam

It is hard to start off a "Happy" New Year after the loss of a loved one, but we did the best we could. We had a nice service for Gary in Daphne, and with the love and support of our friends, family and co-workers, we all helped my mom get through this. Chris and I focused on helping my mom and keeping her mind busy for a while. We planned a trip to California to have scatter Gary's ashes and have a memorial service with friends and family out there. We flew out there, Hayden was so excited to go on a plane, and got in San Jose late one night. We had a nice gathering in Santa Cruz on the pier the next day with all of Gary's cousins, Aunt, Brother, his nephews from Nebraska flew in, my mom's aunt and cousin and some friends from hollister. I think Gary would have liked that. Then we went to his cousin Natalie's house and she hosted a wonderful memorial and gave everyone a chance to share stories and laugh and cry all together.

We decided to make part of the trip a fun trip and drove down to Southern California to visit Family and Friends. I ended up giving Hayden some Benadryl on the car ride for both of our sake, When I looked back 10 minutes later he was practically drooling on himself... which did make me feel a little bad, but i convinced myself he needed to nap! We went to Disneyland the next day, and were so excited that Carly decided to grace us with her presence for part of our trip. (She really had no choice because Chris can be very convincing) We had an amazingly fun day at Disney, Hayden LOVED seeing all of the characters, it was so fun to see how excited he was. That night we drove to our cousin Lorene's house in San Diego. We went to the zoo the next day, and Nana and Papa drove up from Tucson which was a nice surprise. We had fun visiting with family and seeing Shaina, Ditz and Nicole.

It ended up being a nice trip, Hayden slept the ENTIRE plane ride home, we were amazed!

December started out fine and on the 23rd, Gary was admitted to the hospital for surgery on his colon. We were bummed he would miss Christmas with us, but everyone thought everything was going to be fine. His colon ended up rupturing on Sunday 12/27 and after several sugeries, his body couldnt fight all of the toxins, and he passed away early Wednesday morning 12/30. It was so unexpected, and heart breaking for our whole family. And tryingt o tell Hayden that Poppy was now with the angels was so hard. Even now he asks if Poppy can come back after the angels make him all better. Here is the obituary we ran for Gary:

 

Gary Lee Copas (8/1/62 - 12/30/09) passed away early morning Tuesday Dec. 30. He was 47.
   Born in San Jose, California, Gary and his family moved to Daphne in 2003.
   Gary leaves behind his wife of 17 years Catherine, daughter Ashley (Spears) LaFroscia and son-in-law Chris of Daphne; His brother, Bryan "Chubbs" and sister-in-law Sandra of Hollister, California; His favorite Aunts, Shirley Vaughn and Marlene Vaughn both of California; Cousins, Coleen, Caron, Bobby, Natalie, Rock, Steve, Brian, Dora, Nikki, Sandy, Rori, Roger, Robert, Lizzy, Jessica, Brooke, and Cole all of California and his Uncle Leonard Gafford of Fairhope; Cousins, Angela, Mark, Debbie; Nephews, Gregory Jr., Taylor and Neice Caitlyn of Nebraska; And his best friend, the light of his life, his "little buddy" grandson, Hayden LaFroscia.
   Gary was preceded in death by his Mother, Leonette; Father, Glenn; Brother Gregory Sr.; Uncles Robert "Bob", Gordon and Aunt Shirley.
   An Avid Hunter and Fisherman, Gary loved cooking, going to the beach and riding his Harley-Davidson with friends Bubba and Tony. He said the best "job" he ever had was being Hayden's "Poppy". He always had wild and funny stories to tell from his days of building motorcycles and taking trips around the country with his dad and two brothers. He will surely be missed by all who knew him and will be remebered by those stories.
   A special thank you from his family to Wyatt, Elizabeth, Michael, Jessica and Dana at Thomas Hospital for all of their care and support during his last few days. 
   A Memorial Visitation will be held at Hughes Cremation and Funeral Services in Daphne, on Tuesday, January, 5 from 12-2pm.
   When tomorrow starts without me, and I'm not there to see, If the sun should rise and find your eyes, all filled for tears for me,
   I wish so much you wouldn't cry, the way you did today, While thinking of the many things we didn't get to say. 
   I know how much you loved me, as much as I love you, And each time that you think of me, I know you'll miss me too.
   But when tomorrow starts without me, please try to understand, That an angel came and called my name and took me by the hand, and said my place was ready in Heaven far above
   But I'd have to leave behind all of the things I dearly love. But as I turned to walk away, a tear fell from my eye.
   For all of my life, I'd always thought, I didn't want to die. 
   I had so much to live for, so much yet to do, It seemed almost impossible, that I was leaving you.
   I thought of all the yesterdays, the good ones and the bad, I thought of all the love we shared, and all the fun we had. 
   So when tomorrow starts without me, don't think we're far apart, For every time you think of me, I'm right here in your heart.

Fall is here and it is finally turning cold down here in Mobile! We took some family pictures the other day. Hayden would only want to take one "cheese" picture then would say "Ive already taken a picture, no more!" He is such a little sassy pants these days, but so cute still! We are excited for his 3rd birthday and Christmas coming up soon!

I havent updated in a while so here it goes...

We went to Destin at the end of August and had a blast! Hayden loves building sand castles (only to smash them) and playing in the water. The condo we stayed at had a lazy river and was so nice to just float and relax. We went with The Benton's and The Schaffer's and since it was my first time in Destin I was so excited. Everyone was right, the water there is stunning! So clear and warm, I LOVED it! One night we went for sushi (while Chris stayed home to babysit) and we saw Emeril Lagasse! We were all so excited! (didnt get any pics though)

I started school at the end of August and I am loving it! I forgot that I did like college! I am excited to get these pre-req's out of the way so I can move on to the main classes (which wont be for another year or so though)

Other than that, we have pretty much just been hanging out, football season started in September so on Saturdays we watch football, Hayden LOVES to scream GO AUBURN, WAR EAGLE like his daddy! He also Loves the Cowboys! We took Hayden to his first football game (Univ of South Alabama) and he had a lot of fun! We are hoping to make it to an Auburn game this season, so we will see.

Chris and my 6 month wedding anniversary was Oct 3rd, man...seems like that FLEW by..but at the same time seems like its been 5 years! hahaha.

June sure has flown by..Our biggest news is that Hayden is pretty much potty trained! With the exception of an accident or two in the past few weeks. He refuses to wear a diaper unless he has to and has to pick out his "undies" every day! We are so excited we dont have to buy diapers anymore (and not as excited that we have to be ready to run to the bathroom at a moments notice every where we go!) I guess we will eventually learn where all of the bathrooms are in Daphne! But it is all well worth it!

We have been swimming at my mom's most weekends, and Hayden is a fish, he jumps in the water and doesnt want anyone to catch him, so we got him a cool learn to swim tube suit "thing" like the one his "girlfriend" Kaylee had and and he is able to jump and swim around all on his own!

Gary had been in the hospital almost 3 weeks and he is finally home as of today, so hopefully he will be all better soon, Hadyen kept asking us if the doctors had "fixed" poppy yet?

We are fortunate to be pretty close to the beach and have good friends that have boats and that practially live at the beach, so we are looking forward to heading down to the beach a lot this summer, Hayden loves buidling sand castles and stomping on them!

So, I wanted to start a share site, and am new to this "blogging" thing, so Ill keep my first one short and sweet! We are all doing good (minus Chris case of "Stomach Flu" last week) We are goingt o take Hayden to the Zoo in New Orleans this Sat. This is a big deal for us for 3 reasons, 1. He LOVES animals now and I am so excited to see his face when he sees a real giraffe and lion. 2. He has NEVER been on a car ride longer than 45 min! He hates being in his car seat. So...needless to say we are a little nervous. Hopefully since we will bein Paul and Lindsey's car (equipped with a DVD player) our trip will be better! 3. He never sleeps in teh car, all he does is talk and/or scream. We are hoping he is so tired after his long day at the zoo that he sleeps on the way back!
