Lake Effect Run Club - 1100 - Park to Park Run 10/18/09

This Sunday afternoon was a great afternoon spent running. These are the Fall days us runners live for. Cool temps topping out in the mid 50's and beautiful sun-filled blue skies contrasting the brightly colored foliage. This is what we mean when we say, "I like having the change of seasons!" 

The temperature was actually chilly before the race, I'd say around the low 40's, but there was no wind to speak of. Runners began quickly stripping of jackets and hats as the race approached, and by the time it was done, shorts and a t-shirts were worn by most at the post race party.

Registration lines were short, even though their race numbers were way up from last year. Lines went smooth as plenty of volunteers helped out. The long sleeved shirts given out were really nice and actually a color I might even were after the race!! White!!

The Blue Grass Band "Diamond Someday" started plucking out their sound even before the race began, and they continued well after it was over. Their style of music was nicely unobnoxious unlike some pre and post race voluminous bands. 

The race itself was grand. Absolutely gorgeous city neighborhoods of Eastwood all decked out in their brightest Fall colors. Few, and I mean very few, neighbors greeted us along the way. The hills were a-plenty, but none too great for this 5 mile trek. There were plenty of turns too, but thankfully the well marked course and the volunteers and Police kept us right on track. The finish on the oval at Henninger High School tops off the run with your time ticking away on the board......very COOL!

After the race the traditional awards were handed out and there were plenty of random prizes for runners and even volunteers which was a nice touch. The kids who ran the Fun Run all got medals and Chris Abbott from the City Parks Department handed out medals for the 35 or so runners that banged out all 5 of the Syrathon races. There was plenty of donut holes, cider and rolls to go around. There was even home made tomato and chicken noodle soup to be slurped which is a post race indulgence I hadn't seen before! 

Overall I really enjoyed this race, and judging by the smiles on the participants after, I'd say most others did too.
