The Eagles ran, threw, jumped, hurdled, and vaulted great at the sectional on Friday night. Competing against multiple returning state place winners, Lakes finished second of sixteen teams, falling to Vernon Hills by 11 points. The story of the meet was the versatility of Brittani and Danielle Griesbaum, who both became the second and third individuals, and the first and second freshmen in the program’s history to qualify for state in four events. The 4 x 800 team won yet again, to secure the team’s only first-place finish of the night. The sprint relays just missed the state cut, but ran well overall. The field events were solid as well, as team points were posted in three of the six events. Place winners for Lakes were: Brittani Griesbaum (4 events), Danielle Griesbaum (4 events), Grace Dean (2 events), Hannah Wittman, (2 events), Peyton Kirkland (4 events), Marisa Franson, Linsdey Grolmes, Devin Kirkland (2 events), Geena Paoli (3 events), Kara Morway (2 events), Rocky Jackson-Stone, Rachel Terry, Erica Terry, and Mia Bennett. Overall, four girls qualified for state in seven events:
Grace Dean: 4 x 800, 1600 run
Hannah Wittman: 4 x 800
Brittani Griesbaum: 4 x 800, 100 dash, long jump, 400 dash
Danielle Griesbaum: 4 x 800, 200 dash, high jump, 400 dash
For many of the girls, this was the final meet of the season. The 2012 team scored more points at sectionals than any other Lakes squad in history. The girls who are returning next year have a great opportunity to keep the tradition going. The coaches are very happy with how the 2012 season played out. The state meet will be held on May 18th and 19th at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois.
Thank you for your continued support of the Girls Track and Field team.Thank you to the coaches, parents, and athletes for their dedication and support during the indoor season. We have been very lucky to have good weather and have been able to practice outside on a regular basis. The 2012 indoor season has been the most successful that Lakes has had, as evidenced by our team finishes as well as individual performances at invitationals. We have qualified four individuals and four events to the indoor state meet. The indoor season's success has resulted from hard work and dedication toward a common goal. I want to add a few reminders before spring break. We will not be holding practice over spring break. Athletes have been given event-specific workouts to complete on their own. Additionally, please make sure that all athletic fees have been paid by April 4th, to insure that your daughter is able to participate. Thank you for your continued support of Lakes Community High School Girls Track and Field.
