I have always enjoyed the Perks of being a Stampin Up Demonstrator

My Stampin Up story by Sherrill Graff

My story- Sherrill Graff

I became a demo in 1991. I jus t wanted to buy stamps for my daughter at a discount. I soon realized stamping wasn't just for kids.

When I started doing it as a business I borrowed stamp sets from my upline. (Who happens to be Shelli Gardner Co-Founder of Stampin Up)

I'd make samples and then return the stamps and she would give me more to use. I was in Heaven! My business began to grow and I became an upline myself.

My first recruit is Loni Spendlove. She is still active and has a good downline of her own. My second recruit is my Twin sister Michele Hillam.

Michele was the very first demonstrator in the Denver Colorado area she also has a wonderful downline.

The real challenges started right after our youngest son was born. His middle name is Sterling after Sterling Gardner Shelli's husband. He was 3 months old when my Dear Husband Mark (only 34 years old) had his first heart attack.

I promised God if he would save my husbands life I would be a good person and raise a righteous family. After 5 bypass surgery and 6 months of recovery he was back to himself again.

Thank God for HUGE blessings. I sold all my stamps and my husband sold a gun or two to help pay the bills. (He is a hunter) The stamps sold for 80% of retail so it was like having an extra savings account I didn 't know about. It's nice to know they hold their value. Our parents hel ped too. We both have wonderful giving parents. We had help from the church and the community programs to provide Christmas for our Dear Children.

3 years later my husband had another heart attack with Angioplasty. I thank God for modern medicine! We sold everything again to help pay the bills. Our parents helped us out again. We also had some help for Christmas this year as well.

3 years after that Mark had developed an aneurysm on one of his bypasses. It was like living with a time bomb wondering if this was they day he wouldn't return home from work. Soon after, he had yet, another heart attack!

This time we were waiting in the surgery waiting room when the doctor came out and said "there is nothing I can do" My mother in law and I looked at each other and started to cry thinking he was gone. The doctor said "oh, let me rephrase that, there is nothing I NEED to do! You have been given a miracle!"

Marks aneurysm was no longer a threat, it had clotted itself off. The artery they had bypassed in the first place had opened itself back up and his heart has grown 2 little veins that were feeding the back part of his heart. (Something that doesn't usually happen to heart patients until they are in their 50's)

We have truly been blessed!

God has stood by us, our families have stood by us, our friends have stood by us, Stampin Up has been there when I could do it and on the back burner when I couldn't. We are all healthy and happy. I thank Stampin Up for the wonderful Heart Set that raised such a nice donation for the Heart Association!

So you may ask why I give away stamps every Christmas? I have been doing it for years. It's so nice to share what I have. It's my little way of Thanking God, Thanking family and friends, and thanking Stampin Up for the joy they have brought to my life.

I am so glad I joined so many years ago. And just think, I signed up just for the discount!

The rest of the story. In 2009 Mark just went in and had 2 stents put in. The vessel that was giving him problems was 95% blocked, that vessel fed 2/3rds of his heart. No wonder he was having so much pain all the time.

I believe God gave us another Miracle.

Had Mark waited any longer he may have had a fatal heart attack.

Kenneth Sterling the baby at the beginning of our story is now 15 years old and almost 6 feet tall! We do have 2 daughters, 2 sons and a dear son in law.

Mark and I went to Hawaii compliments of Stampin Up in March of 2009. We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary in August. I am so thankful for all of our blessings, for a great family and wonderful friends like you.

Now it's 2010. I have found out what a real blessing Stampin Up has been in my life. It's always brought me joy and helped me make new friends but the best part is my little hobby has become my "real job"
It pays the house payment, the care payment, the insurance, and the power bill. How blessed we are to have this income.
My husband is currently unemployed. As he continues to look for work we know that our bills will be paid because of the blessings of God, a little hobby that I love and his income from unemployment. May each of you who are looking to turn your little hobby into a business be blessed to continue on the path and never give up.

May God bless you and your family,
Sherrill Graff istmpnv@aol.com

Stamp Kiss Technique How to

1) Ink a patterned stamp, such as one of our background stamps.

2) Press a solid, uninked stamp against the patterned stamp, transferring the pattern to the solid stamp.

3) Stamp the solid image on card stock.

Tips:

  • After completing Step 2, the patterned stamp can also be used for a "reverse kissing" look.

  • Before completing Step 2, you could ink your solid stamp image with a lighter color.
  • Emboss Resist How to

    Directions:

    1) Stamp and heat emboss your image. Allow image to cool.

    2) Apply ink directly to the paper (over and around the embossed image) using a sponge or brayer.

    3) Wipe the embossed image with a tissue to remove the excess ink.

    Variation: watercolor resist

    1) Once you've embossed an image, scribble around and over the image using a Watercolor Wonder Crayon, and blend using an Aqua Painter. Wipe the color from the embossed image, and allow to dry completely.

    Masking How to

    MASKING

    Directions:

    1) Stamp your image twice: once on card stock and once on a scrap piece of paper or sticky note.

    2) Cut out the image on the scrap paper using either a hobby blade or your Paper Snips.

    3) Place the cutout image over the image you stamped on your card stock.

    4) Sponge or bray ink, or stamp another image over your mask.

    5) Repeat masking as desired.

    6) Remove mask and finish your project.

Andre Agassi Academy in Las Vegas service their community

    Service Learning

Elementary students participate in Service Learning Projects as a class. Their goal is to complete 10 hours of Community Service projects each year.

Each of us who believe that every child has the potential to succeed know that Community Service is a wonderful way to learn hands on.

We will be bringing their school our Stampin Up Build a Bear events where we make cards for the kids in Las Vegas hospitals.

    Mission

Defined by educational excellence, the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy (a K-12 public charter school) maximizes the potential of every learner. As a center of strength, AACPA provides an array of choices and opportunities to underserved communities. By harnessing the talents of gifted educational entrepreneurs, AACPA works to produce inspired, creative, ethical, compassionate, and reflective leaders who offer solutions to the problems posed by a democratic society.

    Education Philosophy

We believe that every child has the potential to succeed. Therefore, we strive to help each child reach his or her goals by providing the resources and support necessary for success.

The most important resource offered to our students is a group of top-notch educators, administrators, and staff. Every team member at Agassi Prep is committed to our mission and to doing everything it takes to help our students reach their full potential. To reinforce this commitment, Agassi Prep holds all teachers directly accountable for their students' performance.

Students at Agassi Prep also receive all of the physical tools necessary for a superior learning environment. Although the state funds given to local schools fall far short of the national average, Agassi Prep supplements these funds with generous contributions from the Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation®, federal monies, and private donors.

Another key element of the Agassi Prep environment is a standard of high expectations for students. To maximize the opportunity for academic achievement, students attend school for an additional two hours per day and an additional ten days per year.

The bar is raised outside the classroom as well. Our students are taught that the qualities of integrity and accountability will help them overcome the challenges they will face in their lives. In a disciplined setting where students learn to respect their classmates and instructors, the students quickly learn to respect themselves as well.

An additional component that encourages success at Agassi Prep is the involvement and the support of parents and guardians. Parents must commit to staying involved in their children's education by reviewing homework, communicating with teachers, and volunteering on campus. Parents are also encouraged to attend meetings designed to help support the school's mission.

By setting high standards for the staff, students and parents at Agassi Prep we create an environment of dedication, self-discipline and cooperation.

When children are given the proper support and encouragement, they dare to dream. And when children are given all of the resources necessary for a quality education, they have the ability to make their dreams a reality.
