I am an Alum of LC and after a 31 year teaching, coaching and as a technology training specialist for Fairfax County public schools...I am now retired and have been shooting sports professionally for 10+ years.
Good luck to LC this year and please come up and say hello and request any special shots you may want before and after the games, especially with parents who have traveled to see you play and support the team.

How to download or save pictures
1. Click on picture Tab and go to the album
2. Click on the picture not the thumbnail and you will see the option to download....
3. This will prompt you to create a "free account"
4. Create a "free shutterfly account"....note you are under no obligation to purchase anything this is just so you can down load your pictures or save them to your shutterfly account if you really want shutterfly or target to print your pictures. Shooting Sports!
Things you should know or expect from Pro photographers:
There are a number of ways to approach shooting sports and this is very important for everyone to understand!
1. The photographer can shoot the game. (called follow the ball)
2. capture the premier players. (media outlets go this route)
3. Photograph all the players whether on the bench, warm-ups or in the game which means you are going to sacrifice missing some great shot opportunities.
4. Go for just those Sports Illustrated shots either on the ball or away from the ball.
5. Photograph just the team or the individual only and be satisfied with game snap shots!
6. Candid and dramatic shots as if telling the story of the game. (photo-journalistic approach)
7. Team and head shots...posed shots only.
8. Expect pictures to be posted in a reasonable amount of time.....if they aren't the photographer is overextended or overbooked. Or they may be working another full time job!
It is very important, especially if you hire someone, to make sure you discuss with him or her exactly what it is that you are looking for. If you were to ask parents they would like a mixture of everything as they are looking to create their own memory (books) or photo displays of all the time and money that they have invested in their child.
I believe strongly in a few established rules and practices when I shoot for paying customers.
1. Be insured and experienced with the sport! Understanding the rules of the game and the rules of photographing it correctly where to be and where not to be.
For example: Even if it is going to be a cool shot for you to get, never be behind the goal in any sport as it is distracting for the players.
2. Never stick your camera in the middle of a huddle especially when the coach wants and needs the attention of players to make critical adjustments to the game plan. If you watch pros in action, the true pro will be removed at a distance or will only do this after the game is over.
3. Never hire a portrait photographer to photograph sports as they will not have the right equipment to capture pictures under the worse of circumstances. Not every pro is good at all aspects of photography, just like doctors....hire a specialists.
4. Know that artificial lighting cycles through colors you can not see until you look at the picture on your computer screen....this will affect how the picture will look.
5. Never dump your photos straight from the camera to your website for customers to look at as they are seeing all the missed and out of focus shots as well as your good shots. Always adjust before you post so they can see what they are getting and never post an out of focus shot because on a computer screen it may look ok, but when they get the print it won't look good and you suffer. This is why your sales suffer no matter how much you tell them the print will be better than what they see on the screen.
As I think of more "frustrating experiences" I will post so you do not have to go through it.
