Gene Brewer, Author

May 15, 1946

Gene Brewer Selma High School Grad 1955

Retired SHS teacher Mrs. Marge Denton recently donated a signed copy of the novel, K-PAX, by SHS '55 Grad Gene Brewer, who also wrote sequels to the book, and a book called "Creating K-PAX or Are You Sure You Want To Be A Writer?"

Information taken from Mr. Brewer's website http://www.genebrewer.com/  reads as follows:

"K-PAX is a novel about a psychiatric patient who claims to be from another planet (K-PAX), his relationship with his doctor (Gene Brewer), and with the other patients at the hospital, some of whom show remarkable improvement after speaking with "prot" (rhymes with "goat"). The novel was first published in March, 1995 by St. Martin's Press (New York), and subsequently in 20 countries around the world. K-PAX was nominated for the Arthur C. Clarke award in 1996. Reviews have been excellent (see Amazon.com). The paperback version appeared in March, 2001.
The sequel (ON A BEAM OF LIGHT) was published in hardcover in March, 2001, and in paperback in Feb., 2002. The French and Polish editions were released in Jan., 2003. K-PAX III: THE WORLDS OF PROT was first published in Gt. Britain in July, 2002,and the complete trilogy, including Prot's Report to K-PAX, in December, 2003."

From Wikipedia:  "K-PAX is a 2001 American science fiction and mystery film directed by Iain Softley and starring Kevin Spacey, Jeff Bridges, Mary McCormack, and Alfre Woodard.  The screenplay, written by Gene Brewer and Charles Leavitt, is based on a novel of the same name by Brewer about a psychiatric patient who claims to be an alien from the planet K-PAX. During his treatment, the patient demonstrates an outlook on life that ultimately proves inspirational for his fellow patients and especially for his psychiatrist".

Ira Hodson, Blacksmith

From Lori Williamson Stewart -- Hi Donna. . . .Here is a picture of my Great-Grandfather, Ira Hodson.  He lived in Selma and was the last working blacksmith in Delaware County.  The picture was taken on May 15, 1946 for a newspaper article.   His shop was in the garage behind his home on Muncie Street.
