Gardens of Excellence June 2013

2890 Golf Circle
The Stella D'Oro lilies are not yet in bloom, but drive by now and they should be spectacular!

2890 Golf Circle
Beautiful round front bed with knockout roses.

2890 Golf Circle
A gorgeous Tiffany rose.

2890 Golf Circle
Entrance arbor from the driveway. More spectacular views to come!

2890 Golf Circle
Another view of the front flowerbed.

2890 Golf Circle
Deutsia. A beautiful shrub.

2890 Golf Circle
What a beautiful blue carpet!

2890 Golf Circle
A stand of Exbury azaleas--check out this orange color!

2890 Golf Circle
A Japanese maple pruned in the oriental style.

2890 Golf Circle
Another view of the magnificent Exbury azaleas--which are 4-5' tall--and the rock wall which defines this bed.

2890 Golf Circle
We will definitely have to be back here for summer! Looks like lots of daisies, lilies, and others which have yet to bloom.

2890 Golf Circle
Geranium planters are all around this home, just like in Europe. These have just been planted, are still small, but will grow quickly once the weather warms up.

2890 Golf Circle
Backyard secluded patio. Shaded by an awning, this doubles as a breakfast and dinner room, which the owners enjoy non-stop.

2890 Golf Circle
Another view of the patio. Lush plantings are in the forefront.

2890 Golf Circle
Gas plant. Who has the correct taxonomic name?

2890 Golf Circle
OK, this is a plant ID request!

2890 Golf Circle
A hidden patio with waterfall.

2890 Golf Circle
The pond is larger than it seems. It is home to some amazingly huge koi.

2890 Golf Circle
Some of the giant koi. The wire line is to deter the herons from eating them!

2890 Golf Circle
A fringe tree.

2827 Sheffield Drive
A condo with much to offer.

2827 Sheffield Drive
A pretty shade bed flanking the driveway entrance.

2827 Sheffield Drive
An arbor on the right of the driveway beckons you to enter and see...

2827 Sheffield Drive
the amazing retaining wall and terraces that surround this cozy home!

2827 Sheffield Drive
Cascading shrubs and rock garden plants on the lower level of the terrace.

2827 Sheffield Drive
More of the terrace layers. Notice the kitty sculpture planter.

2827 Sheffield Drive
This is looking up at a steep point in the vertical retaining wall. The flowering shrub is at the bottom; iris in the middle; roses overhead. This really is spectacular!

2827 Sheffield Drive
At the base of the retaining rock wall, a delightful patio!

2827 Sheffield Drive
The owners don't have much space to grow in--but they're growing in containers and lettuces look good!

2827 Sheffield Drive
A juxtaposition of pink peonies and blue clematis.

2827 Sheffield Drive
Many layered rock terraces. And many whimsical things!

4567 Canterbury Drive
A beautiful front yard. Look closely at the garage wall...

4567 Canterbury Drive
Something for everyone! Tubes and holes for Mason bees and other pollinators; a butterfly resting area; nesting material for birds. Which is why this property is...

4567 Canterbury Drive
a National Wildlife Federation Certified habitat!

4567 Canterbury Drive
Massive rose hedge

4567 Canterbury Drive
A whimsical metal kitty sculpture

4567 Canterbury Drive
Around the back corner there's a water feature.

4567 Canterbury Drive
Blue spruce contrasts nicely with pale blue spiderwort and pink roses.

4567 Canterbury Drive
More of the knock-out rose hedge in front.

4567 Canterbury Drive
Indoor plants brought outside to enjoy the sun and flank the front door.
Plant/Bake Sale 5-11-13

LMGC Plant/Bake Sale 5-11-13
Sandy Harris is coordinating both Plant and Bake sale. Waves "Hi" as the table inside with baked goodies continues to evolve.

LMGC Plant/Bake Sale 5-11-13
Gorgeous crepe paper flowers grace the side of our bake sale table.

LMGC Plant/Bake Sale 5-11-13
More incredible flowers. They are about 4' high!

LMGC Plant/Bake Sale 5-11-13
In keeping with our Butterfly Garden theme, Janet Persing made a lot of origami butterflies. 5 different varieties.

Plant and Bake Sale 5-11-13
Weather was iffy, so the LMT Community Center allowed us to have our bake sale inside, with no worries. This is preliminary set-up. Notice, down on the L side of the floor...Sandy's catgrass, complete with black cat cards.

LMGC Plant/Bake Sale 5-11-13
Here's what we have on offer. Art Persing transported all the plants previously dropped off to the (3) tables he put up to showcase them all. Some are still on the back of his truck.
Janet Persing voluntarily labeled plants without labels. The display looks a bit more professional with labels.

LMGC Plant/Bake Sale 5-11-13
Neatly placed and labeled plants entice customers.

LMGC Plant/Bake Sale 5-11-13
Our VP, Art Persing, after getting all our plants from the gazebo to the front tables via his truck. This will be a good day!

Our happy membership committee! These people will
always give you a warm welcome!!
Mary L., Frosty, Sandy K., and Florine B. Keep that talking at the entrance! By virtue of your kindness, you will entice more and more people to join the Lower Macungie Garden Club as soon as they walk in the door!

LMGC 2013 Kick-Off Meeting
Here is a new member, Evelyn Matos. Please say hello and remember her at our next meeting.

LMGC Officer Nominations
The Lower Macungie Garden Club is now entertaining nominations for the positions of: Vice President; Treasurer; and Recording Secretary. Here are the nominees to date, shown in this picture:
Art Persing, nominated for Vice President
Sandra Harris, to the L, nominated for Treasurer
Ellen Murray (obscured by Art Persing), nominated for Recording Secretary.
Nominating Committee Members shown here are: Pat Ruchs-Barth, Helen Kessler, Sue Rothrock.

Art Persing, Vice President candidate
Art Persing has been working on a community outreach project, the Butterfly Garden. He is briefly explaining this endeavor, as well as his qualifications for VP.
Ellen Murray, in the pink sweater, and Sandra Harris to Ellen's left, await their turn to tell the club membership why they want to seek officer positions. We are SO thankful to have members stand up and lead us into the future!

Ellen Murray, Sec'y. Candidate
Ellen Murray explains how she is patient and optimistic. A former teacher, Ellen is a great candidate for one of our secretary positions.

Sandra Harris, Treasurer Candidate
Sandra Harris is telling us about her experience as a small business owner and why she's qualified to be our Treasurer.
However, her skills and experience, both as a gardener and business owner, will only help us as we move forward.

New Prospective Members?
While walking, we met Janet (L) and her sister Diane (R) the day before our meeting. Arti and I invited them to come, and so they did. I think they are having a good time!

LMGC's First Meeting 1-09-13
Art Persing briefly explains The Butterfly Garden project, the first introduction to all of our members.
A thorough presentation will be in our next meeting, Feb. 13, 2013. Please plan to attend!
