Welcome to the LocalArchiver Sample Share Site at Shutterfly!
Take a look at this sample of the flexibility you have to customize a historical society share site at Shutterfly. Then return to the Historical Society Share Sites project page at LocalArchiver.com to read step by step instructions that will help you decide how to best establish a share site. These share sites can be used and customized for many purposes.
- Historical society members can share images and society activity updates.
- A society can assign project tasks and track project completion against deadlines.
- A historical society can link a share site to a fundraising image gallery where the organization rasies funds by setting its own prices on prints and gift items. See the LocalArchiver article on Marketing Images as a Fund Raising Activity.
- A historical society can communicate through the site by posting member thoughts, and feedback can be gathered and shared as comments on each posting.
- Links to other useful sites on the internet can be provided.
- The possibilities are almost endless, and once you put up your share site, you are likely to see additional uses quickly.
- Note that there is also a LocalArchiver sample family share site. See the LocalArchiver article on Building a Family Share Site.
Before you look further, notice that the title to this section is customized. As you customize a Shutterfly Share Site, you may customize section titles, use many text tools for color, size, font, etc., and may add, eliminate, and change the order of the sections in the site. Additionally, you may add pages and move sections to later pages as you see fit.
In this sample share site, I have limited permissions to comment and make changes in most sections. However, you build your site, you have the flexibility to allow "members" and/or "guests" to comment and edit each section as you deem appropriate. The share site can be very participatory.
I suggest you browse this site to get a feel for the possibilities. Then, before you roll up your sleeves, return to LocalArchiver.com for helpful tips and suggestions at the Historical Society Share Sites project page.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who can make changes to information at the share site?
Permissions can be granted to a combination of members and/or guests by page or by section. Therefore, you may provide permissions to the site "owner" as the only person who can change the design and content of sections. The owner can then grant permission to "members" to post announcements to certain sections, and perhaps allow "visitors" to only post comments to certain sections. A very flexible way to allow participation while maintaining control over access and input.
Must society members have a Shutterfly account to interact with the share site?
Only the owner is required to establish a "My Shutterfly" account with contact information. The only time the share site owner, members, or guests are asked for personal and/or credit card information is when they are making a purchase of a product or paid service.
How can Shutterfly provide this share site service for free?
Shutterfly is offering this powerful share site capability for free to encourage groups such as an extended family, a youth sports team, or an organization like a community historical society to share their images. If images are being shared among like minded folks, there is a high probability that prints and gift items will be purchased. A great service to encourage people looking to share images to place them with Shutterfly. A win win since Shutterfly provides great products, pricing, and customer service.
Society Updates and Annoucements
So Easy a ....Man Could Do It!
Building a share site at Shutterfly is very intuitive. By using a drop down "options" menu for each section, you can change section titles, simply type in content, and use a "show text tools" menu to modify highlighted text in many ways. Note that you can upload and place attachments in some sections. Very useful to save you typing time if another document tells the story.
