Welcome to Lydia Johnson Dance Kids/Teens

Lydia Johnson Dance, a professional company based in New York and New Jersey, offers classes in contemporary dance, choreography, and ballet for children and teens. This Web site offers a snapshot of the young dancers. Lydia Johnson, choreographer and artistic director of LJD, believes technique is best learned when her young students use their creative energy to compose their own dance works. The students' works shown at the end of each class series are totally choreographed by students using the compositional techniques that have been worked on throughout the semester. A key component of the classes are the guest artists from Lydia Johnson Dance who demonstrate partnering and phrasing and who perform excerpts from the LJD repertory.

Lydia Johnson Dance is registering students for classes beginning in early February 2009. Ballet with Choreography classes are held Mondays at the South Orange Performing Arts Center. Contemporary Dance and Choreography classes are held at the Burgdorff Center in Maplewood. For information and registration, visit www.lydiajohnsondance.org
