project #14 - may 1, 2012

2012-05-02

i am ME
i am ME
something old - the picture (i am blonde now :) something new - technique: covering chipboard with paper (i have never done this! always painted or inked chipboard!) something borrowed - marilyn monroe quote something blue - background paper ok...so my new beginning consists of me realizing how important it is to love yourself! while this is not a new concept to me anymore it was a few years ago. i used to think i knew what was important and i realized one day how wrong i was. i began to see that i matter and i cannot love anyone without loving myself (cheesey, i know, but it is true!) i have been wanting to scrap something like this for a while so here it is! i also wanted to add the marilyn quote 1. because i love her and 2. because the beginning part applied to me and the ending didn't. now, it is the other way around.
i am ME (2)
i am ME (2)
here is a closeup of the "title". for this project i used paper from the immortal love stack. was going to use rockstar but the colors needed to be darker and more "serious" :) hope you like!
Something old, Something new.
Something old, Something new.
This is an altered canvas [my most fave thing to make] for my precious hubby. The pix are copies of old childhood pix. There is a very pale sky-blue scattered all around this project. I did ALOT of painting and the paper [from the DCWV stack Immortal Love] featured as the background [decoupage'd of course!] my hubby picked out! It SO was NOT my first choice [I had WANTED to use some of my Lost & found stacks]! The hubby loved it tho... and so I think I made it work! =] I hope so anyways! The something I *borrowed* was the quote that says... *There is no other love like the love for a brother. There is no other love like the love for a brother.* <3 The new beginning... is a very personal one for my hubby one that started with a great tragedy. You see, the smallest boi in these old pix, is his younger brother Michael. My hubby lost him to death back in Oct. 2011. He was 25, and had a beautiful future ahead of him... The dark haired boi for a LONG time my hubby did not like even tho they were raised up together as step brothers for years. Both lost a baby brother, Michael and both loved him dearly. Through this loss... if any good thing has came out of it, it is that my hubby and the dark haired child bonded. Both grown men now... consider one another a brother! There are other details but that is the short version. God's grace is amazing... <3 I pray that the healing can be expedited for the whole family. I will be hanging this canvas with chains... and although it looks complete to me, it doesn't feel complete!!! I feel like something else is needed? = / Anyways Thank you for looking and hope you like it! <3

creations from our 13th project

reuse and recycle layout
reuse and recycle layout
i based my entire project on this month's theme and did a layout honoring the environment. i do not have any pics yet but once a nice day comes around am hoping to go take pics with some pretty trees! the reused/recycled parts are the magazine clipping, the bottle cap, and the paper used from the "green stack" which is 70% recycled paper.
reuse and recycle layout - magazine clipped motto
reuse and recycle layout - magazine clipped motto
this is one of the recycled items in my layout - a piece from a magaizine. i love this motto!
reuse and recycle layout - bottle cap

another reused piece - a bottle cap! i embossed it and then stamped it before it set. and when i heated the powder it smelled like rootbeer! :)
Beautiful Tag
Beautiful Tag
This was a CHALLENGE for sure!!! The items that were re-cycled, were Soda can tabs for the corset lacing, the tulle that was used at the top of the tag, and the chip board used to make the tag itself was recycled from a hot pocket box!!! Also the mirror butterfly behind the Marilyn pic was broken... instead of throwing it out I camouflaged the brokenness behind elements! Hope you all like it!!

"i'm so lucky" cards
"i'm so lucky" cards
i really wanted to express thanks to my mom and stepdad as well as my boyfriend so i used our project as an opportunity to make them cards. i got to use my new embossing folder and my new distressing inks which i cannot get enough of! i just made my first rosette a day before making these cards and i am in love with them!
"i'm so lucky" cards (2)
"i'm so lucky" cards (2)
i printed a sentiment and adhered to the inside and also wrote in each card. i am so thankful for these people and had to tell them how lucky i am that they are in my life!
lucky days.jpg
lucky days.jpg
I titled this page Lucky Days instead of *Oh Lucky Day*... because looking at this pic, I realized that everyday you are loved is a lucky day! <3 I used Pink Paislee's Daily Junque collection. I debossed the fram and embossed my the paper bow with my cuttlebug. =] I also wanted to remind my self to be grateful SO I added that to the banner pieces under the bow! Hope you all like and I can't wait to see ALL your lovely creations! =]

i used 3 different black and white patterned papers (squares, music notes, numbers) plus some silver and two reds. i cut the flowers from my sizzix and the butterflies are from punches (one brand new from christmas!) i also got to use tattered angels glimmer mist for the first time - i got some of that for christmas too!

Vinatge Christmas Bow
Vinatge Christmas Bow
This was basically a prototype for what I am thinking of putting on my presents this year... I love this paper! These colors are not my thing tho! LOL I got this idea from a tutorial on youtube... except for mine... I used a pine cone for the center! Hope everyone has a VERY blest Christmas. Thank you for looking. <3
vintage santa tag
vintage santa tag
i am going to make multiple of these but time caught me by surprise so i took a pic of my first one to post. there are green jewels in the bottom left corner and the inking on the edge of the white tag is a gold shimmer. can you tell that is a pine cone sticking up?

it may be a little easier to see the pine cone and sparkles in this picture

I used a red tag misted with Glimmer Mist along with some stickers on foam dots. The pine cones are on the stickers and the sparkle is from the Glimmer Mist. Happy Holidays!

Wreath of Gratitude
Wreath of Gratitude
Look closely and you will see plaid paper in the pumpkins and swirls on the light colored oak leaves. There is a layering in the pumpkins and squash as well as layering of all the leaves. I asked my kids to tell me why they are thankful for their grandparents. If I was not so behind, I would have had the kids write on the leaves. My mom is going to freak!!
Fall Card
Fall Card
I am grateful for the seasons on this wonderful Earth. They guide us through life and remind us to take time to enjoy our surroundings.
so grateful
so grateful
it is kind of hard to see the plaid and swirls...they are on the strips of paper behind the biggest pic. i used old flowers from an arrangement my grandma had on her table when i was little. i <3 the colors! when thinking of gratitude i immediately think of my boyfriend! he is amazing and wonderful. i am a little crazy and moody (i am a cancer, after all) and he is always so understanding and supportive of me.

these are the inserts that go in the openings of the bags throughout the album. i could not find a good place for stitching and realized an insert would be a great place! i used my sew easy stitch piercer for different stitches.
Brooklyn's Treat Tubes
Brooklyn's Treat Tubes
I think I have all the bases covered! =] I had paper with stripes and dots in my stash! lol YAY! STASH!! lol I watched a tutorial on these last week and LOVED 'em. They are very simple, and seeing as how I need 22 of 'em .... simple is GREAT! I hope my lil' man's class loves 'em! Thanx for looking lovlies and God bless!

I made the creation a tag! Not too spooky (we don't do halloween) unless you think a cloudy full moon and black cats are spooky! I used background paper to address the stripes and dots. I had to forgo the stitching as I could figure out how to work it in. I thought I might go around the tag's border, but I inked it instead.

I used polka dot & striped paper and scored it into accordion folds and made spirals. I used the ribbon to make it into a wall hanging. The stitches are on Frankenstein's head! The tag is in the middle and screams out "SPOOKY!" This was a fun project to create!

Love is Stronger Than the Grave
Love is Stronger Than the Grave
This year marks my hubby's and my 11 year anniversary ... not our wedding anniversary but it is the anniversary of our first meeting in person and our love just beginning. <3 I LOVE these verses from The Holy Bible... hopefully you all do too! =] OOOH and I have the most beautiful embellies ... red roses that I planned on using on this! They have went M.I.A.! =[ Kind of annoyed by that. There is red inking tho... hope that's ok. I may still add those roses if I ever find 'em... If I do I will add pix!

I wanted to make something clean and simple but cute. I've been making things that kind of had a vintage or shabby flair SO much recently. I always want to expand my style... not lock it down! SO this is what I made... it will prolly be framed and hang in my house somewhere. <3 I LOVE rainbows! I also love God! =] When I see a rainbow I am reminded of what it says in Gen. 9:16... Not sure rainbows are consider *summer* or not... but they sure look that way to me! I plan on making something featuring the fruits of the holy spirit one day, so that I can be reminded of what I need to be. God bless and have a beautiful weekend!

California Scrappin' - Letters on Frame
California Scrappin' - Letters on Frame
For the 1st "D", I used Copper Stickles and then went over them with Molasses Smooch Ink to give it a sandpaper effect. For the "A", I went over the chipboard several times with Copic Marker Y28 Lionet Gold & it eventually created a cracked paint effect. For the 2nd ""D", I used Molasses Smooch Ink again. I covered it in one coat and after that dried, I went over it a 2nd time using a dabbing effect to give it a metallic look.

I chose to do a home decor project. I used a wooden frame from Michaels and covered it in brown cardstock that had some copper glitter scattered on it. I inked the edges with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in 'Walnut Stain." I took the chipboard letters from my stash of Colorbok letters and altered them in various ways (see next photo for details.) I added the gears and the clock face. I used foam dots to make the clock face stand out & above the gears - see additional photo for exact details of metallic pieces.
