Joe Franchino joins New England Futsal
Bill Sampiao, President of New England Futsal is pleased to announce that Joe Franchino joins New England Futsal's Board of Directors as Player Representative. In addition, Joe will play an active role in the training and coaching of futsal at all New England Futsal Academies in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. "This is not only a top quality proven professional soccer player that endorses and embraces futsal, this is a top quality person and we are over joyed to have him a board helping us in the proper training and coaching methodology at our futsal academies", says Coach Bill.
Born in Fontana California, Joe's illustrious soccer career started at Damien High School in La Verne, California, where he was coached by Al Mistri. In his sophomore year, his high school soccer team reached the CIF finals. Franchino went on to play at Cal State-Fullerton in 1994 and 1995, and was named to Soccer America's All-Freshman team. After his sophomore year, Franchino transferred to the University of Washington, where he played in 1996 and 1997.
As a professional, Joe was selected 30th overall in the 1998 MLS College Draft by the Los Angeles Galaxy. After appearing in 16 games and recording 4 assists as a rookie, Franchino became a consistent starter for the Galaxy in 1999. He played in 25 games in 1999, 16 of them starts, and recorded 3 assists. In the middle of the 2000 season, however, the Galaxy were forced by the league to give Franchino to the New England Revolution. Joe became an important part of the Revolution's lineup. He started all 22 games he appeared in for New England in 2000, and played a regular starting role for the next six years, during which he was team captain.
In 2007, he made only three brief substitute appearances before suffering an ankle injury and missed the rest of the season.
In 2008, Franchino was acquired from the New England Revolution in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft, returning to the LA Galaxy, playing along side David Beckham before retiring at the end of the 2009 season.

New England Futsal offers Summer Program in Fall River
Bill Sampaio announces that the staff of New England Futsal Academy will be on hand this summer as part of the city programs offered to summer campers in the Fall River School system. Two hour training and scrimmages will be offered Monday through Thursday this summer for 7 weeks beginning July 6th.

Pride FC Summer Camp
Full Day Programs (9:00 AM to 3:00 PM) for children U6 through U14 & evening programs (5:00 PM to 8:00 PM) for High Schoolers at Bishop Connolly High School campus, provide our local communities with a quality summer and pre-season activity.
In these programs, players are grouped according to age, size and ability in an atmosphere set to challenge each player to raise their game to new heights. Camp instruction is led by Coach Bill Sampaio, USFF National Director of Coaching. His coaching staff includes Coach Ben Figueiredo. Coach Ben is an Assistant Coach for the men’s soccer team at Roger Williams University. A longtime player and coach in Southeastern Massachusetts, he brings his experience at all levels of soccer.

NEF combines Futsal and Education for Fall River Public Schools
Coach Bill Sampaio of New England Futsal, in conjunction with the Fall River School Dept, developed an after school futsal and mentoring program for the Williams S. Greene School and the John J. Doran School.
This is a unique opportunity to be mentored by qualified futsal instructors in a creative after school program spear headed by Beverly Pavao of the Fall River School System. Coach Bill and Coach Ben Figueiredo along with two training assistants provide a fun filled, healthy and learning envirnoment, assisting children in their homework responsibilities along with instructing them on the fine points of the game of futsal for 16 consecutive weeks.
This is the first such program in our area. NEF has been involved in the development of the Catholic Youth Futsal League in Fall River which features intramural sports competitions and academies for the Fall River diocesan grade schools and has also developed futsal as part of an athletic eduaction curriculum for a charter school in central Massachusetts.
23rd Annual US Futsal National Championships
New England area futsal teams fared extremely well at the 23rd Annual US Futsal National Championships. New England teams combined for a total of 9 medals as they emerged from this nation's most prestigious national futsal event that took place from July 10th through the 13th at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, Maryland. Two of those national medalist teams are from Rhode Island and 7 are from Massachusetts, and 7 compete in New England Futsal leagues. The HPC Eagles playing in the Women's Open Division came away from the competition crowned as the 2008 National Champions as did the Real Madrid F.C. team from Rhode Island!
