Summer is here!

School is out, cottages are open and filling up, sun is shining!!! Time to start planning for the 4th parade and celebration. Hope you can make it.

Spring has arrived

The weather is fantastic and has been mostly since February. The lawns need mowing within the week! Yesterday a tree pruner came and gave us a workshop on pruning the {bazillion} apple trees here on Matinicus. Today: sunshine, apple pruning, beach, egg dyeing on the Sunbeam (and at home for those of us who always put this off until the last possible minute) - not necessarily in that order. Early Spring, 2010!

The weather has been fantastic, giving some of us the gardening bug though it is too early. The days have been sunny warm and calm, bringing early crocuses and t-shirts as well as people who might otherwise wait for the better weather that April usually brings and giving me thoughts of an early opening for the store this year - also too early.

I've been working this winter with some other island store owners and we will be putting on a conference in Rockland in April where we hope to share information and ideas about the unique challenges of running island stores. The process of gathering ideas for topics from store owners has been interesting and I am very much looking forward to the conference.

Surely wish I could be there to share in the spring festivities but alas, will have to celebrate long distance...I will certainly be thinking of you and and hopefully will get a chance for another visit sometime this summer! Hi all, This is 10-6-09. We are back in Florida for the winter. Boy did we have fun this summer on the Island. We went to the store for water. They were so very nice to us each time there. We are Stephanie Hiller's Aunt and Uncle so we stayed at the Stan Hiller cottage as we were doing some work for Steve & Dodie Hiller. Its so very nice there. We sure enjoyed our stay. Also Marty, Island Lobter was so good to us. Getting us and out thing back and forth to the Island & Main land. What a sweet man he is. Hope the babies & Jodi are good. Love you all Tom & Dixie
