Showtime DFW Area Champions!

McKinney High Marquettes Shine During Competition Season!

The girls of the McKinney High School Marquettes dance team possess two qualities critical to success in any endeavor: talent and a tenacious work ethic. They leveraged both to their advantage recently at the Showtime DFW Area dance competition on February 9th. The Marquettes were among multiple school and studio dance groups that gathered at R.L. Turner High School in Carrollton for the event. The girls earned  individual distinctions as well as high marks in a number of group dance categories on their way to claiming the title of Grand Champion in the Large Team Division.  Other titles and recognitions include:

Junior Varsity Marquettes
Grand Champions - JV division

Team Sweepstakes

Judges Award

Best Pom, Hip-Hop, and Military Routines

The elite "Illusion" team that is made up of varsity members of the Marquettes, as well as the varsity officers, also attended the MA North Texas Regional Competition this past weekend, February 23 at Liberty High School in Frisco.  This particular competition is notorious for being extremely competitive and the Marquettes represented the team and school extremely well.  Their titles and recognitions include:

Marquette Varsity Officers

Super Sweepstakes

Best Choreography for Open and Lyrical routines

Best in Class

Marquette Varsity Illusion Team

Super Sweepstakes

Best Choreography for Lyrical, Kick, Hip-Hop and Open routines

High Point Awards for both Open and Hip-Hop routines

Outstanding Technique award

While she is justifiably proud of the way the Marquettes distinguished themselves at both competitions, Neely finds even greater satisfaction in the character her dancers demonstrated in preparing for it. “The members of both teams displayed class and dedication that would make anyone proud,” she says. “This means way more to me than any trophy that they earn.”

MHS Marquette Captain, Samantha Gage, Performed In Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

Samantha Gage, captain of the McKinney High School Marquettes, was invited to perform with Mike Miller and Associates in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The invitation came after attending the Starmaker’s Officer Camp in June.

There were approximately 600 dancers and 600 cheerleaders from across the nation performing in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and Samantha Gage represented McKinney High School and the Marquettes. Samantha departed from Texas to New York on the Saturday before Thanksgiving and returned the following weekend.

The performers took part in daily rehearsals to prepare for the live TV performance on Thursday morning on NBC.  The dancers first walked the parade route and then performed at the end of the route in front of Macy’s Department Store, which was televised.  The dancers danced to a space theme and wore futuristic costumes with goggles.  Samantha was lucky and was placed in the front of the dance line.  So, yes that was her that you watched on your TV screen on Thanksgiving day.

In addition to the rehearsals, parade participants experienced the city with tours such as the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty. They attended two shows, the Radio City Music Hall “Christmas Spectacular” featuring the  “Rockettes”,  and the musical “West Side Story”. They went to Central Park and watched the floats being blown up for the parade.  And they also got to go  shopping in Times Square.

Leanne Mendez, former director of the  MHS Marquettes, was also be there for the event as a staff member with Mike Miller and Associates, and was acting as a guide and chaperone to the performers. Samantha was reunited with her former Marquette director in New York for this exciting event. (Check out Samantha's pictures on the picture page)

Captain Samantha Gage Performing in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

Keep an eye out for Marquette Captain Samantha Gage when you turn on your TV on Thanksgiving Day. She will be performing in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.  She will have to share when she gets back, her experiences that she had in New York over the vacation.

Marquettes are Participating in the Festival of Trees

Marquettes are excited to be participating in the "Festival of Trees" by decorating a 7 foot tree that will be displayed at the Courthouse with 90 other entries. This coincides with the "Dickens of a Christmas" down on the square Thanksgiving weekend.  Bidding on trees will be on Friday, November 27th starting at 7pm   Tickets are $30 or 2 for $50.  Proceeds will go the McKinney's Project Graduation. Open house Friday, Sat , and Sunday to view the trees.  (Check out the pictures of the Marquette tree - See Picture tab/ photo album or on the Volunteer tab of this website)

Marquettes Rock Mac-Town in a Winning Cross-Town Show-Down

Marquettes rocked the crowd at the Pep-Rally on 10/16/09. (See the Video Clip of their Hip-Hop Dance under Pictures). They also helped to keep the Cross Town Rivalry going when they beat the drum. (See Pictures). And they dazzled the crowd again with their half time performance of "That's Entertainment".

MHS Marquettes Show School Spirit

MHS Marquettes decorated upstairs C Hall for Homecoming week and the Marquettes won the best hall award.   The theme was "Welcome to the Circus".

Thanks to all the girls for their hard work.
