The McKinney High School Marquette’s were conceived in the spring of 1964. Mr. Faubian, the principal of MHS at the time and one of our middle school's namesakes, had the student body vote on the name for the first dance/drill team in Mckinney. This was how the McKinney High School Marquettes were born.
Mrs. Roxa Joplin, who presently still resides in McKinney, was one of the original team members and a founder of the Marquettes. She was in the first MHS Marquette Drill Team. After she finished her senior year at McKinney, she went on to be a member of the world famous Kilgore College Rangerettes. She served as a Lieutenant of the Rangerettes as well.
Roxa was honored at the Marquettes Spring Show in 2011.
One of the Marquette Senior Scholarships that is given away every year to a deserving Senior was named after her. Roxa is part of the Marquette foundation of many years of tradition and excellence.
