Mount Pleasant Emergency Medical Service - Medic 10, was founded in 1976. A group of ten members of the Mount Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Squad realized the need to have two separate volunteer emergency service providers for Mount Pleasant Borough. With increasing skills needed for both Emergency Medical Services and Fire Services, and the increasing call volume in both areas, the ten members petitioned the Mount Pleasant Borough to separate from the Fire Department.

Medic 10 has been providing Volunteer Emergency medical Service to the residents of Mount Pleasant Borough and surrounding communities since its inception.

Medic 10 moved into their new station at 100 East Main Street, Mount Pleasant Borough, PA 15666 in 1980. The building that had three bays and a small area for meetings and offices was funded by a Community Block Grant and the ground was donated by the Levin Family of Mount Pleasant. Medic 10 continued to see a rise in call volume over the years and had to increase its fleet of ambulances.

A two story addition was dedicated in 1993 and is now providing a state of the art training facility where public CPR, first aid and community activities are facilitated. Medic 10 has also provided EMS continuing education for its members and the surrounding ambulance services. Medic 10 participates with the Penn State Continuing Education Program as a satellite for EMS training.

In addition to being one of the three remaining all volunteer ambulance services in Westmoreland County, Medic 10 has become an integral part of the community they serve.
