Welcome to Mesa de María (MdM)!

...a ministry of St. John United Church of Christ, Aurora, IL.

Mesa de María is Spanish for Mary's Table. Here we gather for 4 weekly cooking classes and table spirituality. Our menus are centered around the Latino Food Pyramid and many of our recipes come from the Latino Nutrition Coalition and Mission Foods.

The next MdM class is a 4-week session running Saturdays, January 21, 28, February 11 & 18 from 9 am to noon.

Interested in joining? Call 630-892-1932 to register; Please plan on attending all the sessions. Class size is limited. If the class is filled, we will add your name to a waiting list for the next class or cancellations.

Community Matters to Latino Nutrition Coalition (LNC)

Mesa de María (MdM) sparked a new approach for the Latino Nutrition Coalition (LNC)! When LNC's Program Director, Erika Ross, received an invitation to view MdM's Shutterfly site, they were impressed. (Duly so, we think!) As a result, LNC created a community page to learn about nationwide efforts similar to MdM. MdM is spotlighted this week! Read more on http://www.latinonutrition.org. Each week LNC will highlight a new group or program, and present updates on previously listed initiatives.

Dance like no one is watching...

Marilyn Dicola of Marilyn's Moving Experience facilitated our MdM program on Saturday April 10th. (See photos in the filmstrip above.) Marilyn's professional background:"Twenty years experience in teaching fitness and movement with varied populations and clients including the Detroit Red Wings, a professional hockey team in the NHL. Twenty seven years of nursing with a specialty in psychiatric nursing. Since graduating from Dance/Movement Therapy School in 1986 I have designed movement programs for children, adolescent and adult clients at Forest Hospital in Des Plaines, IL."
