MAC eNotes

We are a mere eight days away from Thanksgiving.  Nutrition experts say that running with MAC on Saturday group runs will allow you to eat that extra piece of apple pie with ice cream that you are SURE to be eyeballing.  Soooooooooooo....

Come join us this Saturday for our weekly stroll around Noxontown Road, as we depart Silver Lake Elemetary at 0800.  There may be a nutrition expert or two available for consultation for the 7am session as well.... please check the label.

TONS of races happening over the next 11 days.  Newark Turkey Trot(s) on Saturday, Rehoboth Marathon & 1/2 Marathon on Saturday, the MAC Punk v Geezer cross country challenge on Sunday, Philly Marathon events on Sunday, MS 5k/10k next Thursday (the 26th) and the DE State Open (and geezer) cross country championship races on Saturday the 28th.  Anyone entered in all of them?  Anyone named Duane Christy here?

Oh, before I forget... our Saturday hill sessions will begin on Saturday December 5.  The first Saturday of each month, Dec through March, we head to the Caesar Rodney 1/2 marathon hill for some anti-gravity work.  I will have specifics next week, but now is the time to start thinking about that late winter rite-of-passage known as C/R.  Hey, if you had holiday decorations up in September, then you can think about March racing.  And by the way, C/R registration is now available on-line at www.races2run.com.

Lots of MAC names on the results of 'Girls on the Run' from last Saturday.  Rob Goodman led the club with his chip time of 18:23, good for 7th overall.  Joe Pittman was next MAC runner, in 19:33, followed by Jeanine Heath (4th female) in 20:03.  Joe's daughter Samantha ran an impressive 27:40 (she's 10, folks!) and also bested Mom Lisa, who ran 28:00.  Rob's bride Jan & daughter Hannah also completed the event in 37:18 (I think Hannah outleaned Jan at the tape).  The mother-daugther team of Mara & Annette Crispin came through in 39:34.  Doug Kenney's daughter Jessica did a fine job in finishing in 49:34 (she's on her way!).  There were 964 finishers, so I am certain I've overlooked someone (my apologies - please let me know if I did).

Several club reminders... the 5th Pub Crawl will take place Saturday, January 16, beginning at 12:30pm.  The route will include several favorites and at least one new stop.  Our late fall club get-together is slated for Saturday, December 12th at the North Star.  I think last week I mentioned the 11th... please re-note it for Saturday the 12th.  And do not forget this Sunday's cross country event, affectionately known as Punks v Geezers, at Lum's Pond, 3pm.  The award medals this year are worth the effort, I promise.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails... soooo, how far did YOU run today

MAC eNotes

Today is Veteran's Day... thank you to all who have served and sacrificed for our freedoms.  And yesterday was the Marine Corps birthday - you'll have to ask me how I know that.

Big ta-doin's this weekend in the First State.  Our regular club run will take place on Saturday, 0800, at 'the Lake'.  Will there be anyone ta-doin' the early run at 0700?  Later in the day is the Delaware State Hah Schrule cross country championship races at Killen's Pond.  First race is at 1:00pm...

Some upcoming reminders... Saturday is the Girls on the Run event, 9am on the Riverfront, Wilmington.  As we head into Thanksgiving, there are multiple events going the the weekend before, the day of, and the weekend after that could make any distance runner giddy with triptofan... Newark's Turkey Trots, Philly Marathon, MS Runs and the State Open XC races are all on the way.

I've also attached the app for the Punks v Geezers Cross Country Challenge, since it IS a club function, and free to current club members.  It's set for 3pm on Sunday, 11/22 at Lum's Pond.  We should have a heated battle this year for bragging rights (Geezer's rule, Punk's drool).  Come out and run, come out and spectate, come out and taunt... it'll be fun.

Some recent weekend race results to throw at you... congrats to Amy Brown for her 2:14 1/2 Marathon effort at the Outer Banks this past weekend.  She had planned to run the full monty but injuries kept her training totals down (aren't you a PT-type?).  Bob Clausen placed 2nd in his AG at the Delaware Future 5k, in 20:13.  Howard 'Gobi man' Kutcher ran a 22:31 at the same event.  Sunday's Veteran's Day 5k saw John Costello continue his speedy ways, placing 2nd overall in 17:41 (way to go, old man!), with road dog Dave Creppon placing 4th in 18:33.

On Saturday, five MAC-types ran in the New Castle County Old-timer's race, held just before the high school county events.  Captain led the way in 18:15, with Rob 'I can still beat my son' Goodman running 18:50, Keith 'stay off the practice field' Crispin in 18:52, Dave 'cross country sucks' Creppon a whiney 19:22, and John 'Standard and' Poore in 20:47.  That race is a lot of fun!

LOTS of good club pictures are available at our shuttlefly site... thanks to Geoff 'my lens can beat up your lens' Heath for his fine photojournalism efforts:  http://middletownathleticclubphotosite.shutterfly.com/

Speaking of website.... the MAC website (www.macrunning.com) will be getting an overhaul shortly which will allow us some more functionality (like results posting, etc...)..  At present, every eNotes, MAC-produced race, application , etc... is available on the shutterfly site, but you do need to register when you go there.

Details for the Pub Crawl are almost finished... keep January 16, 2010 open.  It is a Saturday.  MAC is also hosting a pre-holiday social in early December (12/11, I think).  Details will be coming next week - unless I forget - which I won't.

The club has a few other exciting developments to pass along to you soon... good stuff!  Buy me a holiday beverage and I may just tell you.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails... soooo, how far did YOU run today?

MAC eNotes

Now that daylight savings time is here, are you happy to add an hour of light to your morning run or sad because you lost an hour of light for your evening run?

Never fear!  MAC's regular club run always comes equipped with daylight of some sort... 0800 this Saturday at Silver Lake Elementary Schule.  Anyone doing the dawn's early light run at 0700?

A number of us (me, included) will be at Winterthur this Saturday for the New Castle County hah schrule cross country Championship races.  There is an open event (for alum, parents, friends, coaches, uncles, delilicts, miscreants, aardvarks and 'other') starting at 12:30.  You MUST pre-register by emailing ricks789@yahoo.com before tomorrow.

Recent races results include one I missed from 10/25... seems Bob Clausen snuck into the Erasing the Blues 10k and won his AG, in 41:43.  On Halloween, John Poore placed 8th ov/1st AG with a 19:43 in the Halloween Treat 5k.

Our southern branch of MAC saw one Terry 'too cold for me' Sullivan paced the head muckity muck of his company in the Five Boroughs on Sunday - finishing in 5:25.  Two marathons in about three weeks... bet he wore a parka!

The first ever Gelato 10-miler road race and mudathon was held in Newark Sunday.  Keith 'mudbath' Crispin paced the MAC mudders in 64:46 Doug 'brittle bone' Kenney discovered he CAN walk on mud, racing a nice 67:06.  Jeanine 'why won't my GPS work in mud?' Heath ran 72:50, while Howard 'Gobi desert' Kutcher slopped his way in 80:04.  Kathy 'don't suck' Hanley also treaded through the mudfields in 85:41.

Some other good racing in November to keep in mind... this is the month of the Philly Marathon (11/22 - sold out, by the way).  That same weekend is the Turkey Trot 5k & 10k in Newark.  11/22 is also MAC's second ever Punks versus Geezers cross country race at Lum's Pond.  Thanksgiving day is the ever growing MS 5k & 10k races in Wilmington, followed two days later by the Delaware State Cross Country Championship races at Brandywine State Park.

Details on MAC's 5th Pub Crawl will be forthcoming shortly... keep all of January open.  I don't know what the exact date is yet!  Heck, we might even do it on a Wednesday (no ... we won't).

Thanks to everyone who ordered a MAC warm-up... the order is being processed.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails.... soooo, how far did YOU run today?

MAC eNotes

Halloween weekend!  Man, i love this time of year.  Please don't forget our special Halloweenie run & meet-up this weekend.  First, the run will be at the haunted Silver Lake Elementary School, 0800.  Following the run, we will convene our annual bagel-fest at Sunrise Bagel (approx. 9:15am, if you can't get your butt out of bed to run).  And if the spirit so moves you (and I know it does...) wear a costume.  It IS Halloween Day.

Saturday is the last day to order (and get your $$$ in for) the MAC warm-ups.  I'll need your size preferences and the cash.  Once everything is in to MOT Running Company, it'll take about two weeks for the stitching to be completed

A few results from this past weekend to pass along...

Dave Creppon ran in our nation's capital in the Marine Corps Marathon in 3:05 something something.  His chip malfunctioned (and by the looks of the results, so did a lot of folks' chips - apparently not enough salsa on the course).  Congrats man.  Rob Goodman placed 3rd overall in the Erasing the Blues 5k Sunday on the Riverfront, in 18:17.

No Charlie Brown himself, John 'Linus' Costello won AND PRed at the Great Pumpkin 5k at Lum's Pond Saturday, in 17:21.  The humble author 'Charles Schultz' Shearer placed 2nd overall to Linus, in 17:27.  Matt 'Schroeder' Symes won his AG in 21:01, while Geoff 'Snoopy' Heath (25:16) and Craig 'Woodstock' See (25:22) also navigated the pumpkin patch.  Snoopy's bride Jeanine 'Lucy' Heath raced earlier in the day at the Buddy Run in Wilmington and placed 2nd overall Female in a sporty 20:24.

The Harrier's Track Club program will start up again in November.  This is an AAU-sanctioned youth track & field program.  For more information, check with Kevin & Tina Conley at kevin@motrunningcompany.com.  I think the fee is $60 per kid and there are several competitions throughout the season.

The seminar that was scheduled for last Friday at the UD (with guest Christopher McDougall, author of the bestseller "Born to Run," an avid barefoot runner) has been rescheduled for Nov. 6 at 3:30pm in Room 100, Wolf Hall.  The seminar is titled "Born to Run -- Secrets of the World's Greatest Ultrarunners.” The presentation, which is free and open to the community, is part of a Biomechanics and Movement Science Seminar.

Hagh Schrule cross country is winding down... Blue Hen Conference meet is this Friday at Lum's Pond, beginning with the boys at 3pm.  The County meet is Saturday, Nov. 7 at Winterthur and states the 14th at Killen's Pond.  Go Harriers!

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks, trails and local haunts!  Soooooo, how far did YOU run today?

MAC eNotes

Fall has arrived and the nor'easters are gone
The trees still have leaves and I've just cut the lawn
So running this Saturday is on your 'do' list
Please come and join us or I'll really be.... well hello there!

MAC's regular weekly club hootenany will be held this Saturday, 0800, at Silver Lake Elementary Schule.  Anyone meeting up at 0700 to exchange recipes and add a few more miles?  LEAVE me know...  and actually I will not be at the run Saturday but rather racing at Lum's Pond in the Great Pumpkin 5k (good course and one-mile kids run, too).  Check out www.races2run.com for the 411.

Congrats to Texas Terry Sullivan for his 3:36:03.5 (point 5... really?) at the Indianapolis Marathon this past Saturday.  Point 5?  heh heh ... 26.2 miles and they have Point 5.  That's funny.

From the AG Waters Fall Festival 5k on 10/8 (just got the results... thanks Missy!), MAC was up front as usual... Doug 'pud run' Kenney was third overall in 19:10, with Bob Clausen nipping at his heels in 4th, in a time of 19:17 (long heels).  12-year-old AJ Delrosso cranked out a 21:16, good for 10th overall/2nd AG.  Howard 'marathon man' Kutcher popped a nice 21:28, good for an AG 2nd.  Lizzie Lou Snyder won her AG in 27:27 (nice job).

This past Sunday was the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5k in Wilmington...Gonzo Sadowsky was the overall winner in 17:56, with Jeremy 'Coach' Lambert a 3rd overall in 20:05.  Bride Dani did Jeremy one better with her 2nd overall female placement in 22:21.  Irene Soucy turned on the jets with a 23:21 and 1st AG place.  Barb Ward ran a nice 33:15 on the day.  Lots of 'unknown runners' in this one, so if I missed you... change your name.

Attached is the app for the 2009 version of 'Punks v Geezers', to be held November 22 at Lum's Pond on the cross country course.  It's free to club members and $5 for non-members.  LOW frills event so don't expect a t-shirt, race number, or post-race fare, but do expect a good beating if you are a punk 'cause the old folks are loaded for bear this year!

http://www.eteamz.com/cswxc/files/NCCEntry2009.pdf is the link for the County Cross Country race at Winterthur on November 7.  There is an open 'old-timer's race' at 12:30 on the course.... lots of fun.  I'm willing to run as an alum for school willing to pay my airfare, hotel accommodations, expenses, etc... for this event.

Last note... don't forget the post-run club meet-up next Saturday (the 31st) at Sunrise Bagels in Midtown.  Wear your costume and I promise, well nothing actually.  Just wear your costume.  If you cannot meet us at 8am for the run, I suspect we'll be down to Sunrise Bagel around 9:15-9:30ish, so join us anyway.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails.... sooooo, how far did YOU run today?

MAC eNotes

Fresh off jury duty this morning (no, I did not get called to serve on a jury... they took one look at me and said 'get him out of here'), here are your Wednesday eNotes!

Our regular club run will take place Saturday at 'the Lake' at 0800.  Meet up in the front parking lot and please bring lots of enthusiasm... the weather for the next few days looks icky.  Insomniacs meet at 0700 for extra miles and because they can't sleep.

TONS of recent results to report... let us begin, shall we?

I missed two Army 10 participants:  Trent Camp (of Camp Chiropractic... good dude to see if you need) ran a nice 1:36, as did Joe Swift (you two run together?).  Thanks to MOT Running Co. for sponsoring at least three teams at this very hard to get into event.

A number of MAC runners & walkers in the first ever Mustang Stampede 5k last week.  Haydeniz Opio (wife of Hector) placed 2nd in her AG with a 27:14.  Irene Soucy was right behind her and also took an AG 2nd, in 27:47.  Heidi McEvoy was the 2nd overall walker (male & female).

The DE Distance Classic was held Sunday on the Riverfront.  Doug 'boney' Kenney had a top 30 finish in 62:19, while Judy 'the tortoise' Nazarewycz came home in 1:4048.  Nice job to you both!

The People's PLaza 5k was held this past weekend, with Joe Pittman placing second overall in 19:10 while bride Lisa popped a nice 28:29 for a 2nd AG finish.

The first ever DE Mudfest saw a mostly MAC squad made up of Captain Chris 'I do" Ward, Pat 'I gotta climb over what?' Boettcher and Muddy 'Bud'dy Shearer taking the overall title in 24:40-ish.  Check out http://www.delawareonline.com/ then go to Metromix on the right hand side for some great pics.  LJ Slaughter is the very first pic!  Got mud?  And I can't tell you how many times I heard 'I gotta do this next year...' from spectators.

From the MAC non-running scene, Courtney 'I never met a bike I didn't like' Chipouras completed the Seagull Century bike ride (100-miler) in 4 hours, 50 minutes.  I've no idea where this was held, but SEAGULL seems to rule out Omaha, NE.

A couple notes of interest... the 2nd MAC 5k Cross Country Challenge / Punks v Geezers race will be held November 22, 3pm at Lum's Pond (it's a Sunday... no hunting).  The app is complete and will be forwarded next week.  This event is free to club members and only $5 to non-members, who are more than welcome to come join in the goofiness.

Orders for the MAC warm-ups are starting to pick up steam.  The cost is just $42 for the set (matching top & bottom, with the MAC & Premier PT logos).  The suit is on display at MOT Running Company.  I need orders and money by October 31 please.

Speaking of Halloweenies... please join us for the general club meeting to follow the club run that day (10/31, a Saturday) at Sunrise Bagel.  Costumes are encouraged... and in some cases even demanded.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails.... so, how far did YOU run today?

MAC eNotes

The best month of the year... OCTOBER!  Columbus, costumes, pumpkins and mudruns!  More there in a bit.

MAC will meet up at 0800 this Saturday for our weekly club run, at Silver Lake Elementary Schule.  The early bird special features a 7am meeting of an additional 6-miles... no condiments are available, however.  Bring your own ketchup.

Big ta-doin's in our nation's capital last weekend at the Army 10-miler.  Jeff Thomas tore it up with a 63:14.  Andy Norfleet also ran a nice 69:11, while team Conley had three finishers (Kevin, 1:31:35; Dylan, 1:31:42 & Tina, 1:35:19).  Anyone else tour DC by foot?

The Newark Main Street Mile had two MAC runners; Pat Boettcher stepped down in distance and ran 4:48 for 10th overall.  Chris 'birthday boy' Ward was forced into elite-status and ran 5:46.  Nice job, speedy.

John Costello and I toured the great city of Syracuse on Sunday in the USATF Master's 5k Road Championships.  Did you realize there are 40+ age dudes who can crack 15 minutes?  No it wasn't either of us.  I ran 17:26 while John hit 18:01.

Upcoming... looking for a great hs XC meet to spectate?  The UD invite is this Friday at White Clay.  I think most of the area teams will be competing.  The first race goes off at 3:15 so get there early.

Mudfest is this Sunday at Frightland.  From the looks of it, almost 300 teams have registered for this thing.  http://www.delawaremudrun.com/ is the site.

Two area 5ks tomorrow (Thursday).  The Mustang 5k at Levels Park and the 5k at Alfred G. Waters.  Both are first-time events but look well organized.

Two quick reminders for y'all... MAC wam-up suits are available (see yesterday's email for details) and our general club meeting will take place 10/31 immediately AFTER the club run at Sunrise Bagel in Midtown.  There will be more munching than business I can assure you.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails (and mudpits).... sooooo, how far did YOU run today?

MAC eNotes

snnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff.... please, just try and tell me you don't sniff the box when you buy new running shoes.  I won't believe you.

MAC's regular club run will take place this Saturday at Silver Lake Elementary Schule at 0800.  A few of us popped in early last week to take advantage of the reduced light and cooler temps for some extra miles (not to mention the puddles) so there may be a few of us gather at 0700.

GREAT turnout (both overall and MAC's presence) at Sunday's FOP 5k Dash at Glasgow Park.  The results are done but not yet posted.  I will get them out as soon as possible.  Wendy Henke did a fabulous job of putting together an event that was 'more than just a race' and MOT Running Company was great at running the course, timing and results.  And lots of MAC AG placers and participants.  Thanks to all!

Upcoming... there are 140 teams preregistered for the Mudfest 5k on 10/11 at frightland.  I haven't checked to see whom of y'all are entered.  Please bring my walker and replacement hip to the finish line... I've a feeling I may need it.  I know of a number of you running both the Army 10-miler and the Marine Corps Marathon in October.  Best of luck... report those results please.  Anyone have anything else on the horizon?

The tentative date for the MAC Cross Country Challenge (aka Punks vs Geezers) at Lum's Pond is Sunday 11/22 at 3pm.  That is also the same day as the Philly Marathon.  I bet our race is cheaper ($0 to club members).  Or do both and use the marathon as a warm-up run...   The app will be sent out next week.

Attached is a link from my bride about an ultra runner dude appearing at UD on Friday, 10/23 at 3:30pm.  The seminar is apparently free and is part of the Biomechanics and Movement Science series:   http://www.udel.edu/udaily/2010/sep/ultrarunner092909.html

MOT Running Company is offering a club special on running suits (Mizuno jacket & matching pants) for $42.  The set will include the club logo and our sponsor's logo (Premier PTSP).  If you have any interest, please let me know.  I am taking orders (cash in advance, please).  The suits are on display at MOT Running Company for sizing, etc...   They retail for $75 without logos, so it's a great deal and a nice way to show off our stuff in the cooler weather.  I'll take orders through October and hope to have the suits delivered by the first week in November (the 7th).

How's Halloween Saturday (31st) for our annual club get-together at Sunrise Bagel?  We'll go over fall/winter events, finalize suit delivery, and maybe even have a costume run that day.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks, and trails.... sooo, how far did YOU run today?

captain 'off to sniff my new mizunos again'

MAC eNotes

Our usual club run will be held in its usual place (Silver Lake Elementary Schule), at its usual time (0800 unless you are looking for extra credit, then it's 0700), for the usual reason (cause we like it).  But unlike Sunday's Berlin Marathon, there will be no pacers available. Sorry...

Speaking of Sunday's race.... I got up early to watch some of the streamed coverage on Universal and was sadly disappointed at the SEVEN pacers surrounding Geb & Kibet.  I actually stopped watching after about 30 minutes... annoying is more the word.  I understand the world of pacing for World Record attempts but THAT was just ridiculous.

Race reminders... don't forget the FOP 5k Dash this Sunday, 2pm at Glasgow Park.  Then there are the two 5ks on Thursday, 10/8 (MOT Charter event at Levels Park & the 5k at Alfred G. Waters on Silver Lake Road).  Both are first-time events.  Apps were sent out in recent weeks.  Let me know if you want another copy.  There is also the mile race in Newark on 10/3.  Good stuff on the local scene - anyone else taking part in the Mudfest event on 10/11?   I may need stretcher bearers, since my teammates have decided to leave me for the buzzards should I get hurt (the low lifes).

Some race results to pass along... congrats to John Costello for his 2nd place overall (18:13) and Mike Galbus for 4th overall (19:48) at the St. Francis 5k this past Saturday.   At Sunday's Melanoma 5k, John Poore placed 1st in his AG in 19:38.  Trent Camp ran a nice 27:52, while Lisa Pittman (married to Mr. Hernia, Joe) ran 29:18.

There were two MAC members in attendance at the Philadelphia Distance Run on Sunday - Keith Crispin ran a chip time of 1:21:46, while Tina Conley finished in 2:21:06.  I saw Dawn Land's name listed, but no time.  Not sure if that's a DNF or a DNS.

Stay tuned for an October post-run club gathering at Sunrise Bagel (site of our usual fall general club meeting).  We'll go over the 2nd Punks v Geezers cross country challenge, as well as the 5th January Pub Crawl.  Two of our 'younger' members will turn 21 in February and have been lobbying to have the event moved back a month.  HA!  Like that'll happen.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks & trails.   Sooooo, how far did YOU run today?  (and did you have a professional pacer?)

captain 'pacers are for sissies'

MAC eNotes

This week's regular club run will be held at 'the Lake', commencing at 0800.  As usual, we shall meet up in the front parking lot.  Anyone running the early bird special at 0700?  If it rains the evening before, there should be lots of yummy worms on the pavement.

This weekend is the Philly Distance Run... I noted on the event website that they will be streaming live coverage of the Kenyan nation as they race down the Ben Franklin Parkway. If you are running, good luck!

Speaking of 1/2 marathons, there is a new national 50-state club.  From the founder: I found your club in the athlinks directory and wanted to see if you could share with your club members that we have launched our NEW national Fifty States HALF Marathon Club, for anyone that might have interest in joining. Some of you may want to travel together to tackle the 50 STATES CHALLENGE. (Marathons and Half Ironmans COUNT in the 50 state challenge ALSO). Additionally, there is a 100 HALF ANYWHERE challenge for Half Marathons and Half Ironmans only, for those who don't travel out of state as much.  Feel free to check out our website for all of the details at: www.HalfMarathonClub.com Thank you! Happy Running! :) Kind Regards, Nicole Blomgren, MBA Founder & CEO Fifty States HALF Marathon Club Nicole@HalfMarathonClub.com

Results from last weekend's Bottle & Cork in Dewey (and I was surprised more of y'all didn't head down for the fun) -  Jim Esrey ran the 10-miler in a nice 77:21(top 100 finish, too) while Pat Boettcher continued his smokin' ways in the 5k, placing 2nd overall in 16:47.

Upcoming events... the Mud Run at Frightland now has 27 teams entered (four per team).  If you are interested, you can enter the team with only one person listed, then have individuals register under the team name one at a time.  Check out http://www.delawaremudrun.com/.  And no, I will not hose you down afterwards.  Sorry... just not gonna happen.

I've attached the app for the upcoming PBS Sharks 5k on Thursday, 10/8 at Alfred G. Waters.  It's part of a family festival thingie... sounds like fun.  Also, please do not forget the

One last note (and I forgot to do this last week...).  We have two club members serving on active duty or about to be called up for active duty.  We'd like to raise a few extra bucks to purchase fone cards for them.  Let me know if you are so interested and I'll get you the details.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails... .sooooo, how far did YOU run today?

MAC eNotes

It's 9 -oh 9-oh 9, and I'm feeling pretty fine
Another day to run, enjoying the summer sun
But fall will be here soon, I've been mistaken for a loon
Hope to see you down in Dewey, miss it and you too are screwy

Saturday's regular MAC group run will be held at Silver Lake Elementary Schule, beginning at 0800.  It's also Bottle & Cork weekend in Dewey, with the 10-miler starting at 7:45am and the 5k at 8am.

Speaking of upcoming races... LOADS to talk about.  The Philly Distance run is a week and a half off.  Anyone headed up for the world's fastest 1/2 marathon course?  I know Tina Conley is headed there.  The Army 10-miler is also on the horizon.  I believe Tina, along with Irene Soucy and Andy Norfleet are all entered.  Let me know if you are headed to any of the majors this fall.

John Costello & I are both running the USATF Master's 5k Championships in Syracuse on 10/4.  Lots of fast geezers, half of whom will be whining about some injury and still running sub 17's.  Losers...

Some local events to inform of...

The Cure FOP 5K Dash & Cash  will be held on Sunday afternoon, 9/27, at 2 p.m. at Glasgow Park. It'll include a 5K race, a family fun loop (for strollers, bikes, dogs...sheep), a pitch-in picnic, race awards, and a drawing for cash prizes of $250, $500, & $1000 (held separately, at M.O.T. Running Co., the following Sat. noon).  (app is attached).  Contact Wendy Henke for more info.

The Main Street Mile in Newark is a 1- mile that benefits the Newark Police K-9 Unit and the Downtown Newark Partnership and is Saturday, Oct. 3.  This race has $2500 in prize money and prize money up to 10th place. There is a post race breakfast at the Deer Park Tavern.

The Mustang Stampede 5k is a benefit for MOT Charter and takes place at Levels Park on Thursday, October 8 at 5:30pm.  This race app is also attached.

There that oughta cover it for now.  I get publicity requests for upcoming races that don't usually fall on the 'regular area calendars' and like to pass them along.  And some of these races are really hot or for good causes.

I'm sure there are some local results to pass along, but I honestly haven't looked, so congrats if you raced, shame on you if you didn't, and let me know if you did.

We're looking to host the annual MAC club meeting (the business side of the organization).  It'll be some time in October so keep an eye out for details... we'd like to put together a skeleton calendar of events for 2010, plus get some feedback on what MAC's been doing.

One last running note... I'm not sure when hunting season commences around these parts, but if you are a lover of the canal (and we had a nice turnout Monday), keep an eye out for the guys & gals in orange.  Archery season starts some time soonly.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails, but not in somebody's trophy case... soooo, how far did YOU run today?

MAC eNotes

Labor Day weekend dead-ahead!  And that calls for TWO (2) club run get-together opportunities:

This Saturday, we will meet up at 0800 at Silver Lake Elementary Schule (NOT at the canal... hang tight...).  On Monday, Labor Day, we will meet at 0800 for our canal run.  Meet at the trail head just beyond the Summit Church (off Rte. 896, southside, second traffic light before the bridge as you toodle northward).  Let me know if you are not sure of the location.  Two chances to mingle for the price of one... ain't I a bargain?

What a wonderful turnout and time we had at our club picnic this past Sataurday at Levels Park.  HUGE thanks to everyone who attended and for all the help in planning and executing said picnic.  I don't recall if Scott Soucy got double-whacked with the frisbee/football but I think it was close.  The park is a very nice facility.

I wanted to pass along a story from Virginia that Kevin Douglas sent me last week:  I got a phone call from my state trooper buddy who is assisting in the investigation of the cyclist fatality accident that occurred yesterday in Rockingham County.  They still have no leads on the identity of the victim.  He was carrying no ID, no RoadID bracelet, no cell phone.  They don't even know if he is from Harrisonburg since they know cyclists can ride 100 miles easily in a day.  He could possibly be from Waynesboro or Charlottesville or the surrounding area.

Bottom line of this sorry is that we should all be carrying or wearing some sort of identification when we are out running, riding, skateboarding, watering the lawn, etc...   I wear a ROAD ID strap on my right wrist every time I'm out.  GET ONE, PLEASE!  Thank ewe...

Congrats to Liz & John Snyder - they ran the Annapolis 10-miler last weekend, finishing together in 94:02 & 94:03 (I did note that John had the :02...what, you outlean your wife for family bragging rights?).  Chris Aitken was also present in Annapolis, running 84:17.  Pat 'road hog' Boettcher placed 2nd in the recent Blue Rocks 5k, in 16:48.  Bob Clausen was 2nd in his AG at the same race, in a time of 20:41.

Bottle & Cork is fast approaching... Saturday, Sept. 12 in Dewey.  I believe this is the 537th running of this race, complete with the beer tub at one mile and one mile to go.  10-miler starts first, followed by the 5k.  Who's in?

High School cross country race season starts up next week as well... good luck to Appo, Midtown, Red Lion, Charter, MOT Charter, etc...  Get out an enjoy the races and the crisp fall weather!

One last race note... I've heard from several of you that there is interest in a few MAC teams in the Frightland Mudrun on October 11 (God help me, please...).  The weblink was on last week's eNotes.  And yes, I am running.  I'll have a few other race notes next week for October, in case you are in to 'clean' racing.

I hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails... soooo, how far did YOU run today?

MAC 9am Run/Picnic Following Run @ Level's Park - STILL ON

Hello,

It looks like (hopefully) that the weather will cooperate tomorrow morning, so we are still ON for the club run/walk @ 9am.  The picnic will start following the run.  Please remember to bring chairs and drinks.

See everyone there!

MAC eNotes

I hear ya missed us, we're back... I brought my pencil!  Give me something to write on, man.

Schools are in (for the most part) and so is MAC!  This Saturday we will host our club run and club picnic from the brand new Levell's Park.  The run will commence at 9am (please note the time!), with the picnic event to start immediately afterwards.  PLEASE let me know if you and your family plan to attend by the end of Wednesday (today) so we can purchase the burgers/dogs/rolls/ketchup/water balloons/etc... There is no cost but you are asked to supply your own drinks and covered dish to share.  We will be in Pavilion #2.  Extra chairs may also be nice if'n you like to sit down.  The grilling will commence around 11-11:30ish.  Our last headcount was 70.

The Peach Festival Results are finally posted on the Shutterfly site (thanks James & Geoff).  I've also attached a pdf of the results.  Please let me know if there are any discrepancies.  The bottom line is that we raised a lot of money for the general athletic scholarship funds for the area schules and had the second highest number of registrants ever (298) and finishers (274).

Our 2nd MAC/Premier PT Scavenger Hunt was also a big hit, despite one area school having a minimal presence.  This event will help fund MAC's running scholarship fund, which is beginning to take shape.  Thanks to all who participated.

Chris Ward has suckered me into a new event, scheduled for October 11 at Frightland.  It is a team 5k Mudfest thingie.  Here's the link: http://www.delawaremudrun.com/.  Please don't let me get dirty alone!  Okay, let me rephrase that...   Looks like fun, so either form a team or join a team.  And a direct quote from Chris, "As for the older people on the list that might think they can't do something like this remember we have Andy on our team, and lets face it, you can't get much older than that."  Need I say more?

Last note... if you are running Bottle & Cork this year, please take note of the earlier start time.  I think it really should read 'the bar will be open earlier'.  Race date is September 12.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks, trails and picnic benches... soooo, how far did YOU run today?

MAC eNotes

Hi All,

Once a year, Captain Andy leaves his laptop behind and retreats to the beach to rejuvenate his clever mind.   I’m sure I can speak for many who will miss his rendition of the weekly MAC eNotes.   I have the honor again to fill in, but was told, No poetry attempts”.

This week’s run will be at Silver Lake starting at 8 am, but I’m sure we’ll have some 7 am early birds for extra mileage.

The 13th Peach Festival 5k was a huge success. . . .AGAIN thanks to Pat Williams of Premier and his host of volunteers!  298 runners, walkers & kiddies crossed the line, making this one of the top years in participation and fund raising.  Proceeds for this race benefit student scholarships for MHS athletes and in 2011 will also be extended to the 1s graduating class of Appoquinimink High.  There were many MAC age group winners too numerous to mention, but full results and photos will be posted on MAC’s website by the end of the week.  Congrats to Stef Taylor who won overall female for the second year in a row with a time of 19.53.  James Townsend was 2nd overall male running a PR of 16.35.  Tom Windley has agreed to help pace James in next year’s Peach 5K, so he can regain his title as overall winner.

Congrats to Courtney Chipouras for placing in her AG at the Lums Pond Duathlon and to Brandon Cordero for completing his first sprint Triathlon.  Let me know if I’ve missed any one.

Last night we held the 2nd Annual Scavenger Hunt under threatening skies.  We started the event a few minutes early and kept it to 20 minutes so all our participants would be back before the storm.  Over 40 high school students participated from Appo, Red Lion & Middletown high schools.  Thank you to the coaches for your support.  Joe Ward was the mastermind behind this event as an outreach to our high school runners and to those clubs members looking for a different type of event.  It was great to look around and see so many new faces and we wish them all a terrific season.  Thank you to Joe and Barb for setting up and getting all the supplies and to Premier for hosting the event.

Just a reminder, the club's picnic gathering will be held at Levell's Park on Saturday, August 29, with the club run starting at 9 am.   This is an invitation to you and your family members.  There is no cost, we just need a head count, so if you’re coming, please send an e-mail to Andy.   MAC will supply meats, condiments, and rolls.  Please supply your own drinks  and  a side dish/ dessert  to share with everyone.  We’ll start grilling around 11:15-11:30am.

The Glasgow Fiasco 5k which benefits the Red Lion Athletic Boosters is this Saturday, start is at 8:30am, the Kiddie K starts at 8:25am.  Please contact Keith Crispin or check out the MAC Photo Site (http://middletownathleticclubphotosite.shutterfly.com/) for the race application that contains all the information.

One final note, we are holding a club run this Thursday (6:30pm) at Middletown High School.  We will be leaving from the parking lot.  There will be several running options (with all avoiding the track) and at several speeds.  Hope to see you there!

See you on the roads,

Jeanine  Heath

MAC THURSDAY RUN - Middletown High School Parking Lot

Hello,

We are planning on having a MAC run from the Middletown High School parking lot starting at 6:30.  This will be a non-track run.  We have multiple course choices and runners of every speed.  Please plan on joining us.

Thanks!

This week's regular club run is the Peach Festival 5k... pretty much same time (Silver Lake), same time (0800) and same general runner's induced high!  There is also a kiddie K that starts about 0750.  Be sure to check out the app for the details.  Looking forward to seeing you!

Details on the club's picnic gathering... It will be held at Levell's Park on Saturday, August 29.  We will hold our club run from the park, starting at 0900 (*** NOTE the later start-time).  Immediately, afterwards, the partyin'  shall begin.  MAC will supply meats, condiments, grilling stuff and rolls.  Please supply your own drinks and also bring something to share with everyone.  We have reserved a pavilion for the day but chairs would also be helpful.  The grills will start firing up around 11:15-11:30am, so I'd expect the food to be ready starting around noony.  And I am working on a couple raffle items as well.  And by the way, there is no cost, fee, etc... to you and y'alls family.  So please join us!  (one note... the park does not permit alcohol (wink wink)).

Only one racing note to pass along... the tag team of Lambert & Lambert were at it again this past weekend as Jeremy ran a 19:18 (good for 6th overall/1st AG) and Dani was second overall female in 21:01, at the Race for Providence 5k.

One race reminder... the Glasgow Fiasco 5k (supporting the Red Lion Athletic Boosters) is next Sataurday, the 22nd.  Keith Crispin is the new xc coach at Red Lion.  He sent out the race app the other day... please think of supporting his new schule and team.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails... soooo, how far did YOU run today?

Peach Festival Course

More than a few of you have asked me for this... the attached link takes you to the USAT&F site and our course.  It's very easy to navigate and you can even lay out your own fav running courses.

The course is much safer this year and was measured via the tangents EXCEPT for when you turn left into Lakeside.  You must stay to the left facing traffic.

MAC eNotes

This week's regularly schedued MAC run has been interrupted so that we may bring you this breaking news about the C&D Canal...

This Saturday we will meet up for some miles on the canal, just off Rtet 896.  Start time is 0800, as per usual.  Plese email me if you need directions or special permission to attend this trail run.  There are no 'facilities' either... so go before you go.

MAC can boast a couple more race winners... Dani Lambert was the overall female winner at the Kid's Health 5k this past weekend, with a time of 21:27 (what, Jeremy couldn't hang?)  Pat Boettcher is back in form with a 16:25 overall win at the Venus 5k in Dewey Beach.  Two weekends ago, Justin Geissler was third overall and 1st AG at the People's Plaza 5k, in 18:53 (bodes well for fall xc, dude).  Sorry if I missed any other results... I swear they are using smaller fonts on race websites!  Ya gotta let me know...

The Olde Tyme Peach Festival is a mere 10 days away.  Who's in?  The course is almost completed and will start and finish at Silver Lake Park.  PLEASE get your apps in to Premier quickly.  Race day registration is $20,000.00!  The second running of the MAC-Premier Scavenger Hunt is set for Tuesday, August 18 at 6:45, at the Premier PT facility.  Apps are on the website for both events.

Saturday, August 29.... FINALLY some details to report.  MAC will be hosting a club picnic at Levell's Park.  We have reserved a pavilion (small one, so bring your own chairs!).  Grills are on-site.  The club will supply the meats, buns, condiments and we are asking families to bring things to share with everyone (chips, drinks, desserts, pasta salads, etc.... whatever you'd like).  I'll have a fix on the start time by next week.  PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE ATTENDING AND HOW MANY.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails... soooo, how far did YOU run today?

MAC eNotes

And you all thought it was humid here!  Back from New Orleans and I have a new, healthy respect for humidity.  Even Lum's Pond is dry compared to the air there... and yes, I did get some nice runs in through the French Quarter.

MAC's weekly club run will take place this Saturday at Silver Lake Elementary Schule (a dry place, despite its name).  Meet-up time is 0800.  I am not aware of any extracurricular training groups meeting at 0700... let me know if you are interested in that.

TWO upcoming events about which to remind you... the first is the annual Peach Festival on August 15.  Apps have been emailed, mailed, attached to the website, and hidden in the bushes by your front door.

The second event takes place a few days later; the 2nd MAC-Premier Scavenger Hunt.  The app is attached for this event.  This is a great club fund-raiser and pretty low-key (and fun!).  The secret list is being completed as we speak.  So find a partner and come out for some fun.  And no, a pair of my skivvies is NOT on the list... or is it?  Hmmmmmmmmmmm

Team SOUCY is looking for another body for the Arrmy 10-miler in October.  Your last name does not need to match theirs.  This race is already filled so if you want to run a great event, this might be your chance.  Contact Scott at bleedblueandwhite@msn.com.  We are...

Here is a link to info on the race that would KILL Jeanine Heath, the Ft. McHenry Tunnel 5K race.  http://www.active.com/page/Event_Details.htm?event_id=1709981.  Sounds like fun to me, except I drive through it at least once a week.

Race results aplenty:  Congrats to Dani Lambert for winning the WTT 5k this past Sunday.  She was the first overall female in 21:13.  Husband Jeremy had to sprint to beat her (meanie), placing 12th overall/3rd AG in 21:11.  Beat him up, Dani!

Seven MAC runners were in the Wilmington Games 5k on Saturday, with Kevin Conley leading the way, 12th overall in 22:27.  Son Dylan was 2nd in his AG in 25:04.  Matt Symes, 3rd AG, in 26:02, Jolene See was first in the AG in 27:36, Tina Conley was third in the Conley family division in 28:35, Sarah Symes also placed 3rd in her AG in 33:49 and Brynn Conley rounded out the MAC runners, running 35:54.

Details on our August 29th club social will be completed next week... we just need to get some reservations in before telling everyone.  Please save the date.  It will be a family function-type day (no pub crawling).

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks, trails, and scavenger hunts... soooo, how far did YOU run today (and was the humidity below 80%)?

MAC eNotes (1 Day Early)

I depart for a five day trip to Nawlins tomorrow and thusly wanted to make sure eNotes wasn't missed (as if any of you would miss ME!).

MAC's regular weekly club run will take place Saturday at 0800 at .  Not sure about the 0700 group of overachievers, so talk amongst yourselves if you plan on being an earlier riser.  Also tonight (Tuesday) is MAC Track night at Mid-town's Big Red... 6:30pm.  Speed work on the track or an easy run elsewhere.

Some racing news to report.... this is direct from , as Hector Opio reports during his tour there in the US Army:

How is the weather back home? I hope that the temperature is below 97 at 4:30 A.M. Last Saturday I completed my first 5k here in  . I placed 2nd overall and first in my age group(18:36). As you can see, I am proudly wearing my MAC colors. Well CPT take care and see guys in December.

Attached is the pic of Hector... he looks sooooo happy!  If you are so inclined, his email address is: hopio_pr@yahoo.com

Some other racing news... John Poore won his AG at the Blood Bank 5k on Sunday, in 19:24.  Irene Soucy ran a post-Stampede 5k in Dewey Sunday, recovering nicely to speed a 25:13, while daughter Elizabeth took 3rd in her AG in 30:50.  Sorry if I missed any other results... I check all three state sites from time to time.

Stampede was a GREAT event for MAC, with at least 20 club members running either the 5k or the 10k.  Results are not yet posted but keep checking http://www.ddsr.org/.  We had a huge turnout and lots of fun.  And what was up with the chilly temps?  Man, I almost wore a parka (that is not short for parakeet, by the way).

A couple upcoming races to report/remind:  4 Pete's Sake 5k is slated for this Saturday at .  The app is attached.  Also, the M.O.T. Running Company will be holding a CURE FOP 5K Race & Walk on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 27, at 2 p.m. at in - the site of last year's walk.  Check with Wendy Henke for more details.

Two club notes - Peach Festival, August 15.  Save that date (and you have race apps)!  Also, a MAC event will be held August 29 (a Saturday) but the format has not yet been declared.  Any suggestions?  We should have it nailed down in the next eight days.

Off to the land of borboun and beads...

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails.... soooo, how far did YOU run today?

MAC eNotes

Well hello again fans of all things Bison and Peachy.  Question...  if it's one Buffalo, wouldn't it be two Buffali?  This Saturday is the 31st annual Buffalo Stampede in Wyoming (Delaware).  I believe this is the fourth oldest race in the state(?).  I'll check my facts.

Anyway, there are a number of MAC members headed down to give chase to the big herd.  There is also the need for a few extra volunteers for the Downstate Striders, who have put this race on for years.  There is a 5k & 10k race and at last check, over 200 preregs.  Please let me know if you'd like to help, or race, or help and race, or just party afterwards (which, by the way, is worth the price of admission).

Peach Festival apps were emailed last week by Pat and have also been posted on the MAC website (www.macrunning.com).  New course this year (the Silver Lake course used for the Race to Find a Cure, with a couple mild modifications to the start & finish areas).  Volunteers are also needed here so if you are not planning to participate, please contact Tom or Pat and help out.

11 runners showed up at last night's track night at Big Red.  NICE midweek turnout.  We will continue to post suggested track workouts through the summer (and maybe into September).

Some race news... Our multi-sport athletes are tearing it up!  Courtney Chipouras was first overall Female at last weekend's Vencentown, NJ duathlon (run/bike/run) and was up by three minutes over the second place lady.  Dawn Land visited the land of all things cheese and placed 107th out of over 2,500 in the Trek Women's Sprint Tri, in 1:21:29.

Below is a note from Keith Crispin.  He and Mike Roth are currently in Germany on a Sister Cities exchange:

As you may already know Mike and I ran couple races in Germany.  Mike is here because of Sister Cities International / Wilmington. The city of Wilmington has several partnerships one of which is with Fulda, Germany.  The goal is similar to People to People and several other non-profit organizations.  With some grant money Mike took the opportunity and headed to Germany for several weeks.  He spent one week in Fulda staying with a host family from a local running club.   Mike ran the 15k and the half marathon and then for two weeks toured around Germany and drank many beers.  J

Mike, Myself and Dierk (fulda) took 1st at the half marathon as a team.  We won a huge 15 lbs sausage and a case of beer!!!  Mike was also second overall 1:20 and brought back a nice size trophy.  However a 40 year old man kicked his ass 1:15.  I was 12th but no comments about my time.

How I fit into this is that I am the representative for the city of Wilmington to Fulda.  I speak no German but since my wife Annette is German and from this region its close enough.  For the last couple years I’ve been trying to bring running clubs together between us and Germany.  Two years ago I sent Andy Jakubowitch and this year it was Mike.  Maybe in the next year one or two may be interested in running a race or just going over for a visit.

Couple side notes:

1)   Doug White is the VP for Watford, England.  He sent over several runners to Watford, England for the Half Marathon in February.  He has been sending runners over for last 10+ years.

2)   A second project with Sister Cities that I am currently working on is trying to establish partnerships with our schools from Appoquinimink with other schools throughout.  Obl is currently partnering with Fulda Germany.  Silver Lake with Nigeria, Africa, Townsend with Kalmar, Sweden and Alfred G. Waters soon to be with a school with Fulda Germany.

Keith

AWESOME!  I look forward to stories of beer, sausage and running from both Keith and Mike.

One last note... please save the date August 29th.  We are planning another club social but have not yet determined the form of said social.  We might all just go over to Dawn Land's house and eat all of the cheese she didn't bring back from Wisconsin.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails... soooooooooooo, how far did YOU run today?

MAC eNotes

I had planned on writing this at 10:11:12 on 07/08/09 but alas I missed my time mark... no matter.  Please do not miss our weekly cub run this Saturday morning at 0800 at Silver Lake Elementary Schule.  The forecast is calling for pea soup so please bring a spoon.

Some 'across the ponds' racing news to report.  Keith Crispin & Mike Roth are currently visiting Germany on a city exchange program and both recently raced in a local 15k event.  Mike took 4th overall in 58:22 while Keith was 12th overall in 63:23.  Both enjoyed the post-race warm beer (ew).  Heading west, club member Kendall Savage made a splash in Hawaii (is that still a state?), running a very nice 52:15 10k and winning her AG (ladies 19 and under).

Pat Boettcher placed 4th overall at last weekend's Firecracker 5k in Wilmington, in 17:03.  One last racing note... MOT Running Company came through with timing assistance again at the first ever Bethany Beach Firecracker 5k held 6/28.  I've perused for results but not been able to locate them.  Thanks to Dawn Land for the heads-up about MOTRC.  Other race results?  Please let me know...

Stampede is a week and a half off... please let me know if you are planning to run/race/volunteer as perhaps we can do some carpooling.  There is also the potential for a post-event trip to Henlopen to hang out for the rest of the day... perhaps an impromptu club social will break out?  Bring a swim suit, a frisbee and whatever SPF you need.

The Olde Tyme Peach Festival 5k is coming up fast.... really fast...  really really fast... Saturday, August 15.  Chocolate covered peaches for anyone who beats me (IF I'm healthy enough to race).  We'll have a new course this year (details to come) and the apps will be available by week's end.  They will be mailed and emailed and available on the website and stuffed in your shorts at each club run and delivered to your front door by racing elves and... Volunteers are needed so please contact Tom & Pat at Premier PTSP to sign up.

Tuesday nights at the track seems to be going very well.  We'll do it again next week.  We meet at 6:30pm at Mid-town's wunnerful track.  Hope to see you there for some counterclockwise work.  There are a few non-oval-types who hits the roads for a few easy miles so don't fret it if you'd rather avoid trackwork.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails... sooooooooooooo, how far did YOU run today?

Location: Middletown High School (6:30pm)

MAC eNotes

This week's MAC group run will take place on the C&D Canal (our first Saturday of the month destination).  We'll meet up at 0800 on the south side, near the Summit Church (just off Rte 896).  Please let me know if you need assistance finding the joint.  Look for the circling buzzards, as they've been alerted we are coming.

Fourth of July weekend means lots of local and regional race events.  A new fav site for me is the Washington Running Report (www.runwashington.com).  Very comprehensive schedule, including down the Delmarva Peninsula and up into PA.  It's a good source of news as well.

Race results from weeks' past... I missed Pat Boettcher's Father's Day 5k win in 17:03.  Apparently, the lack of sleep from the newborn Boettcher hasn't bothered daddy.  John Poore placed 3rd overall at the Mom's House 5k on the 25th, in 19:43.

In the Race 4 Time 5k, Jeremy Lambert ran 19:37, with bride Dani in 21:16 (nice times!)  Matt Juck also ran, in 22:46.  HUGE and zippy field for this race.  At Sunday's Green Turtle 5k in OCMD, Jeanine 'turtle' Heath slothed her way to 2nd place female in 20:42 (apparently, the must-carry shell was too heavy for her).  Daughter Abby ran a very nice 25:17, good for 5th in her AG.

Sorry if I missed anyone's results... report 'em if ya got 'em.

Don't forget our mid-week track runs on Tuesdays at the Mid-town High track, 6:30pm.  It's a great way to juice up the legs for the Peach Festival.  Invite your friends, call the media, notify the local authorities!

We are working on a mid-summer club gathering.  A shortie-pub crawl, night at the North Star, Brooks & Dunn concert, picnic in the new park and an RV trip to Yosemite have all been suggested.  Any other suggestions... let me know.

I'm gettin' closer... hope to see you on the roads, tracks & trails... sooooooooooooo, how far did YOU run today?

MAC eNotes

MAC's weekly club run will take place this Saturday morning, 0800, at Silver Lake Elementary Schule.  Please let me know if you are alarm clock challenged or will be attending the 0700 Overachievers mileage group for an additional six miles.  The usual donut-fest will undoubtedly follow so check your couch for lost change.

Last night (Tuesday) was our first 'scheduled' meet-up on the track at Mid-town High.  Please give me some feedback so that we can design these workouts to better suit everyone's needs.  There is also a 'non-track' group who also meets Tuesdays (and Thursdays) at the school, at 6:30pm for some easy miles.  These additional club runs will continue through at least August.

Great showing by MAC at last Sunday's Sprint Triathlon held at St. Andrews; both the competitors and the volunteers.  Thanks to everyone for making it out there.  John Snyder led the MAC way with his 35th place overall showing.  John's bride Liz Snyder also did well.  Other MAC participants included Steve Majkrzak, along with his dad and bride Tina, Chris 'please put a suit on that fits' Ward, Luke a duke Waltemire, Mike Parthemore and Chris Aitkens.  Results can be found at http://www.lmsports.com/mid09.htm

Joe Pittman hit the pavement for a fast 5k at the Miles for Molly race and placed 7th overall/2nd AG in 19:09.  My apologies if I missed your results... please let me know if you have something upcoming or if you recently set a new land-speed record somewhere.

Stampede is upcoming (July 18).  If you're not interested in racing in 90 degree/90% humidity with no shade and little water available (and gee, who'd want to miss THAT?), the Downstate Striders could use a little course and finish line assistance.  I do plan on lending a hand that day, and the post-race party is awesome (and shaded)!

There is a 5k in Middletown this weekend, though I'm short on details... it's a tri sports events thingie so check out www.trisportsevents.com for the 4-1-1.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails.... sooooo, how far did YOU run today?

captain 'I'll be back running in a week'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (think I'm excited about that?)

MAC eNotes

Summer's upon us, let the runners convene

Our little MAC group it makes quite a scene

We meet up at 8 at the Silver Lake School

Please don't miss out or we'll call you a fool

We stretch and we yak and we run a few miles

Then donuts we eat, which always bring smiles

So see you this weekend, I hope that you're there

Because if you're not, we'll make fun of your hair

(... or in my case, lack-thereof)

Our regular club run is this Saturday morning, 0800, at the Lake.  Hope to see you there!

Starting next Tuesday evening, we will begin weekly track sessions at Middletown High School's track.  Meet-up time is 6:30pm.  It is the same time the high school kids meet for their summer group runs.  I promise there will be no endless sessions of 400m repeats (most nights, anyway...).  A sample workout might be 3x800m at race pace, then 6x150m striders... and it will be at YOUR pace so no need to feel stressed.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

St. Andrew's tri is this weekend (father's day).  There may still be some need for volunteers so if you're just hanging out Sunday morning early, you've breezed through the Sunday paper, and the coffee's cold, head on over.  Good luck to MAC folks who are competing.

It's also 5k season around the small wonder.  You can probably find a 5k almost every other night for the next six to eight weeks.  Don't forget the Stampede 5k/10k coming up mid-July (I have apps if you are interested).  MAC's next two big events are the Olde Tyme Peach Festival and the Scavenger Hunt, both in mid-August.  Ya gotta run at least one of these two or I will hunt you down and put YOU on my Scavenger Hunt list.

Flag Day race in Mid-town last week had a few club members racing... Bob Clausen placed 5th overall (1st AG) in 20:17.  Dylan Conley (1st AG) and Matt Symes (2nd AG) also cracked the top 10.  Craig See ran what appears to be a PR in 25:49 (was it, dude?) and he beat daughter Jolene, who did win her AG.  Dizzy Lizzy Snyder was second in her AG in 26:20.  The mother/son tandem of Irene & Anthony Soucy (3rd AG) were seen talking about how dirty his room is.  Congrats all...

If you are racing and you want me to include your results, just let me know the why's and wherewithalls of your event(s).

One other piece of news of note... the MOT Running Company summer race series has been cancelled.  Stop by the store on Main Street for more on that, or to just buy me a pair of those wool/bamboo socks.  Man, those things are comfy!

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails.... soooooooooooo, how far did YOU run today?

captain gimpy (once again...)

MAC eNotes

Fresh off a fantastic 5k race last week, MAC will again host its weekly club run at Silver Lake Elementary Schule at 0800.  Let's have a huge turnout!

The results from last weekend's race AND pictures are now available on the MAC shutterfly site.  Go to www.macrunning.com and click on the link at the very bottom of the home page that says CLUB PHOTO SITE.  Thanks to Geoff Heath (the dad) for taking over 300 photos - even got some ugly ones of me.  Like THAT was hard to do...

Some upcoming events to keep in mind... the St. Andrew's Sprint Triathlon on Daddy's Day is in need of a few more volunteers.  Contact Mary Kay Waltemire at mwaltemire@verizon.net if you can pitch in.  The event is sold out and there are a few MAC members participating.  The music of the song 'My Ding-a-ling' comes to mind every time I think of that pond.  Good luck!

The Buffalo Stampede is slated for July 18 in Wyoming... Delaware.  I have a few apps left in the file if you are interested in preregistering and saving a few bucks.  I'll bring them along Saturday to the run.

Attached is an app for a race scheduled for late July as well.  Rob Goodman asked me to pass along the following note:  Not sure if you remember one of the outstanding Concord runners from 3 years ago - and Piere Conlon?  His brother (Pete) graduated from Mt Pleasant and was recently diagnosed with cancer.  Unfortunately, the prognosis is not great.  Anyway, Ed Slate along with the Delaware Sports Club has organized a 5k fundraiser for Pete and the Conlon family for late July.

New MAC singlets will be delivered in about two weeks.  I have a waiting list of folks to whom I owe singlets.  Please let me know sizes if you are in need and how I might get them to you.  Saturdays the locker room is almost always there.

We are looking at a summer social for the group.  Any ideas?  Perhaps a summer beer run or just an evening at the North Star?  A club picnic at the new park?  Maybe we streak up Broad Street at midnight?  Just looking for suggestions...

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails... soooo, how far did YOU run today?

Site Redesign

Hello,

I thought the single page format was getting a bit cluttered, so I have added a few new pages (buttons at the top) to the site and moved some of the stuff off the front page.  There is now a separate page for the MAC Calendar, MAC Guestbook/Comments and MAC Photos.  Please let me know what you think.

Thanks

Geoff

2009 Race to Find a Cure Results

MAC eNotes

This week's MAC run will take place on the same day (Saturday), at the same time (8am), at the same place (Silver Lake Elementary Schule).  The only difference?  It's a race!

Okay, you really don't need to 'race' if you don't want, but PLEASE make plans to join us Saturday for the Race to Find a Cure 5k.  This event is being held in conjunction with the Relay for Life, which will be taking place at the same time.  Pop by Premier PT in person between now and then or register on raceday beginning at 0700 behind the school.

If you are still interested in volunteering, contact Kevin 'shinbone' Douglas at kdouglas@wsfsbank.com.  See you Saturday!

A few recent MAC race results to tell you about... Saturday biker Bill DuBois placed 5th in his AG and Mary Kay Waltemire took 3rd in her's at the Epilepsy Stroll 5k.  Sunday, Missy DelRosso ran a nice 25:28 and took 2nd in her AG at the Hear we Go 5k, while new member Dave 'air force one' Creppon placed 3rd overall at the Hall of Fame 5k.

Multisport news...Courtney Chipouras was the 1st place overall woman in the Cascade Lake Duathlon in Western, MD.  Apparently Courtney likes hills.  You DO realize you live in Delaware?

I have a bunch of apps for the Summer Stampede 5k/10k in Wyoming (Delaware), to be held July 18 this year.  Always a nice race if you're in to heat stroke... I will have them with me Saturday.

One last note A... please let me know if you would be interested in weekly summer track work on a weeknight, and perhaps a regular 'track series'?

One last note B... MAC has an opportunity to offer Mizuno warm-up suits (tops & bottoms) with our logo and sponsor logo (Premier) at a reduced cost to club members, from MOT Running Company.  Interested?  Again, please let me know.  If you'd like to see the suit in question, pop into the store on Main Street in Mid-town and take a looksie.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails (and at the race this Saturday!)... soooooo, how far did YOU run today?

MAC eNotes

This weekend, MAC will host its first trail run of the summer season.  We will meet up Saturday morning at 0800 on the C&D Canal (south side).  The trail head is just past the Summit Church, off Route 896.  These are usually fairly well-attended runs, so carpooling is a good idea.  And yes, the resident turkey buzzards are out, so beware... stragglers have been known to go missing.

TONS of results from this past weekend...

John Poore placed 5th overall at the inaugural JWJ Foundation 5k on Saturday in 19:56... no ill-effects from Boston last month, man!  Also Saturday, Dawn Land won her age group at the 33rd annual Chestertown Tea Party 5k, running 23:28.  Great turnout for both the 5k & 10-miler and one of my all-time favorite races.  Ann Brown headed south of Monday and took 3rd in her AG at the Rusty Rudder 5k, running 22:50.

And a great turnout for the Breast Cancer race in Middletown on Saturday, produced by MOT Running Company.  The MAC youth movement cleaned up the hardware!  The results are linked here (click on Breast Cancer 5k) - http://www.motrunningcompany.com/Fit_4_Life_Race_Series.html

I counted 17 MAC members in the field.  Thanks for supporting this event.

Oh, and the second race in the summer series is tonight in Smyrna, the Fire Flay 5k.  Details can be found at the above link.  One other race event of note... Girls on the Run 5k is this Saturday in Wilmington.  Not much on the races 2 run website regarding details, but there is a name and number to call should you be interested.

Thank you to everyone who came out and ran and helped out with the club track event on Monday... HUGE fun!  And yes, the geezers won.  I won't (geezers won) rub it in (geezers won) too terribly (geezers won) badly here but (geezers won) it was a (geezers won) lot of fun (geezers won).

One last note... PLEASE do not forget to register for the Race to Find a Cure 5k next Saturday, June 6 at Silver Lake Park.  This is a MAC/Premier Physical Therapy-produced event and one we hope to put back on the running circuit with a successful re-debut.  It will also be our weekly club run next Saturday.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails.  Sooooooo, how far did YOU run today?

captain (geezers won) Geezer

MAC eNotes

LOTS going on for everyone this weekend!  The first holiday of the unofficial summer season is here - why not start it off by joining us in a club run on Saturday at 0800 at Silver Lake Elementary Schule.

If you'd prefer it a bit zippier or if you'd like to support a local business AND a good cause, sign up for MOT Running Company's first 'Fit for Life' 5k race of the year, to be held Saturday at 10am at the North Star, to benefit Breast Cancer Research.  There's also a 2k walk/jog.  Both start at 10am.

Memorial Day Monday, it's the ongoing Hatfield's and McCoy's... the Punks versus Geezers Track Meet, at Middletown High School.  The first race goes off at 0800.  There are three relays and three open races, including a 1600 meter and 4000 meter track race.  No fee to MAC members, and $5 to anyone else (or just join MAC!).  I'll have apps there.  By the way, Geezers RULE, Punks DROOL.  And we'll win because the Punks will all be grounded.  heh heh heh

Congrats to Courtney 'multi-star' Chipouras for her 7th place overall/1st place female performance at the Riverwinds Duathlon three weeks ago.  She completed the run/bike/run/eat/drink/be merry event in 1:18:52, about a minute ahead of the 2nd place woman (who apparently knew the course better than Courtney but STILL lost to her).

Marathon weekend in the first state was a success for three club marathoners, two halfies, one team and Keith.  I shall explain...

Our three full monty ladies all completed the new (slightly hillier) course in good time; Jeanine Heath (2nd AG - 3:19:58), Irene Soucy (4:10:13) and Kathy Hanley (4:14:30).  The 1/2 marathoners also did quite well; Erika Lukasiewicz (2nd AG - 1:38:01) and Judy 'the Tortoise' Nazarewycz (2:21:10).

In team competition, C4 (the Conley clan - MOTRC central) placed second in the family division in 3:50:10.  Then there's Keith Crispin.  His team, Creek Road Runners, placed 6th in the overall team competition in 3:03:32.  Way to go gang!  Pictures are up at the Mac Shutterfly site.  You can find the link on the club website (listed belooooooooooooooooooooooooooow).

Sorry if I missed anyone else's results... please report 'em to me and save me and my aging eyes.

Quick reminder... the Race to Find a Cure 5k is fast approaching... 2 1/2 weeks away!  We still need a couple course marshall volunteers and loads of runners.  If you are not walking the Relay for Life that weekend, please consider running this event.  Races apps are on the website, www.macrunning.com

One last social note... MOT Running Company is hosting another Ladies Night at the store tomorrow evening from 6:30p-8:00p.  Cool stuff going on and 20% off women's stuff.  Hey, I like skorts.

Our first trail run on the C&D Canal would normally take place on 6/6 but since that's raceday for ALL OF YOU, we'll move that up a week to May 30.  I'll remind you all next week.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails... sooooo, how far did YOU run today?

Captain 'how far is 4000 meters again?'

MAC eNotes

GREAT turnout at last week's club run... let's see if we can duplicate that this week as we meet up at Silver Lake Elementary School, 0800 is the time.

If there is any interest in running on the track on Memorial Day Monday, please let me know by the weekend.  We're a little short on both Punks and Geezers for this.  If we don't hit critical mass, perhaps we'll host our usual 'Holiday Run on the Canal'?

BIG running weekend in the First State.  The state high school track and field championships on Friday & Saturday at Caesar Rodney High School in Dover.  Head on down and support the yout's.  Sunday is marathon & 1/2 marathon day in Wilmington.  1/2 marathoners include Erika Lukasiewicz and Judy Nazarewycz.  Running the full monty is Irene Soucy, Kathy Hanley & Jeanine Heath.  I think I got everyone and I didn't bother looking through the relay list.  Good Luck MAC!

Boy did I miss a bunch of names from the 'Run for our Soldiers' 5k last month... big apologies.  The overall male winner was Justin Geissler in 18:36 and overall female was Ann Brown, running 23:34.  10 of the top 12 were MAC runners!  Those I missed include Bob Clausen (20:57), Kyle Geissler (23:08), Irene Soucy (24:52), Jolene See (26:54) and Craig See (27:01).

I also missed a couple Broad Street 10-milers; Mike Parthemore ran a 1:32:12 and Judy Nazarewycz ran 1:40:55.  Nice times!  Recent daddy Pat Boettcher his the roads in a big way with a 2:56:34 at the Long Branch Marathon in Joisey, then followed up with not one, but two overall 5k wins.  First was the Letty 5k in 17:11 and then this past Sunday's Iron Hill 5k in 17:21.  Kevin McLaughlin placed 2nd to the B-man at the Letty 5k, running 18:01.  John Poore, apparently having fresh legs after Boston last month, also ran the Iron Hill 5k, in 20:13.

The Race to Find a Cure 5k is fast approaching.  MAC and Premier PT are the co-producers of this event.  I think you all have received copious copies of the application.  It's also posted at www.macrunning.com.  We'd REALLY like to make this a huge event so please, if you are not walking in the Relay for Life (and even if you are...) please plan to volunteer or run/race/walk/snowboard it.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks & trails.... sooooo, how far did YOU run today?

captain 'you didn't just say snowboard, did you?'

Punks v Geezers Track Meet

I've had a few 'inquiries' about a track spring version of our P v G series... here is a suggested date and line-up.  PLEASE let me know if you have any interest in this, as I'll need to secure a track, a few batons, difib machines for team Geezer and diapers for team Punk.

Monday, May 25th (Memorial Day) - start time at 8am.  We can be done in about 90 minutes if we have the line-ups/heats set in advance.

4x800m Relay
4000m run (yes a 4k - a compromised 3200 & 5000 race)
400m
Distance Medley (1200, 400, 800, 1600)
800m
1600m
4x400m Relay

**traditional scoring (5 points for first, 3 for second, 1 for third)

**one female required for each relay

** no one athlete can run more than two events.

** There is no charge for MAC members, but non-members need to pony up $5 for punks & $10 for geezers (thus, they are members!).

** again, this is a no-frills event.

If there' enough interest, I'll put this together.  If not, Geezers still have bragging rights.

MAC eNotes

I finally broke down and bought a new running watch.  Woo hooooooooooooo... and I'll show it off this Saturday during the MAC weekly club run at Silver Lake Elementary Schule.  Start time is 0800 (and not a second earlier, Geoff!).

I missed race results last week so thought I'd lead off this week with a few:

Congrats to Joe Pittman for his 19:10(ish) time at the Run for our Soldiers two Sundays ago at Midtown High School.  Rumor has it the course may have been a tad long, too.  9-year-old Conner Galbus won is age group and tore it up with a 25:58 in his first 5k road race... nice job, little dude!  Jolene See posted a zippy 26:50 and again left dad Craig in her dust, as he ran a '27:something' (his quote).

MAC - hoodaygofas (pronounced 'hoooooooooo, dey go fast!') was the fifth overall team and third in its division at the American-Odyssey Relay, a 12-person, 203-mile relay jaunt from Gettysburg, PA to our nation's Capital.  Our average pace was 7:58 for the entire run.  MAC rocks!

Erika Lukasiewicz is hosting a sampling opportunity for Mona Vie.  She swears by it.  It'll be held this Friday, May 8th.  Please RSVP by Thursday by emailing her at   ErikaN1389@aol.com .  The flier was attached to last week's email s let me know if'n you want me to send it to you again.

Thanks to everyone who showed up Saturday night to the North Star... huge turnout!  And we raised $190 from the raffle, so HUGE thank you to the MOT Running Company for their donation of shoes (won by Doug 'limpy' Kenney) and running suit (won by Kendra 'will this fit over my ski bibs' Myers).

Marathon weekend is 10-days out.  MAC has a number of runners entered in both the full and half monty's.  Please let me know if you're planning to spectate.  I'll have the entire list of runners listed next week.  You can also check out www.races2run.com and go to the marathon link to see who all is running.

One last note... the Race to Find a Cure is fast approaching.  Saturday, June 6 at Silver Lake Elementary Schule, in conjunction with the Relay for Life (which will also be happening that morning).  We're really looking for runners to run right now.  PLEASE consider entering the race or volunteering.  This is the fourth official MAC/Premier PTSP-produced event.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks & trails.... so, how far did you run today (and for how long?).

Captain 'I no longer have to count while running'

MAC eNotes

Hey, ya got TWO chances to hang with MAC this weekend:

The regular MAC run will take place this Saturday at Silver Lake Elementary School, beginning at 0800.  I'm not sure how many overachievers will be there early, since most are in marathon taper mode, so if you are planning to be there at 0700, let me know.

Saturday evening after 6:00pm we will host our spring fling thing at the North Star.  You are on your own for food & beverage (we did not get critical mass for the catering... sorry).  There is no cost other than what you consume.  However, MOT Running Company has provided us with a few items to raffle off and as door prizes, including some warm-ups and a pair of shoes, so please bring some extra $$$.  Cash raised will go into the 'we need to purchase a racing clock' fund for the Club.

Oh, and please shower some time between the club run and 6pm, eh?

I did overlook one result from Boston last week... John Poore ran a very nice 3:30:10.  Congrats and sorry I missed it the first time.

Speaking of marathons, the DE Marathon is sold out.  The team relay is approaching the same status (163 teams at last check... only 175 were allowed last year).  So far, team interest has pretty much folded up and gone home to play checkers.  Think fast and let me know TODAY if possible.  Also sold out is the St. Andrew's Sprint Triathlon, held in June.

Anyone headed to Broad Street this weekend?  Judy the Tortoise Nazarewycz is planning the northward venture.  Good luck!

http://www.frankcwebbmemorialrace.org/FCW2009RegForm.doc.  Bob Clausen asked me to pass along this link for an event held in mid-May (for you non-marathoners).  It's a scholarship fundraiser in honor of Frank Webb.  Check out the link, please.

Erika Lukasiewicz is hosting a sampling opportunity (see attached flier) for Mona Vie.  She swears by it.  It'll be held Friday, May 8th.  Go sample, then show up the next morning and let's see how fast you run!  Zoooooooooooooooooooooooom....

Lots of race results the past week or so... I'll try and get them all gathered up and dispense them next week, including the Race for our Soldiers & the American Odyssey goofs (we did well).  Racing season is upon us!

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks, trails and at North Star Saturday.... soooo, how far did YOU run today?

captain 'Gettysburg to DC - a piece of cake'

MAC eNotes

200 miles in 24-hours

Hope we have warmth and no April showers

MAC hoodaygofas is ready to roll

This race ain't for wimps, nor is it a stroll

But fun we will have, and run we will do

No chaffing allowed, and double knot every shoe

From Gettysburg to the District, team MAC will complete

12 folks on the team, that makes 24-feet.

Please wish us good luck, and a speedy arrival

Minimal odors and KD's survival

Oh, and Joe, about that 12% grade... you ain't gonna like it!

This weekend is the first ever American-Odyssey Relay event and MAC has one set of nut-jobs entered (led by the head nut-job, or so I'm told).  I promise to try to bring everyone back in tact.  And yes, a full report will be provided next week.

The regular club run will still take place at Silver Lake Elementary School, 0800 this Saturday.  Last weekend was opening day for nearly every sport ever invented, and the accompanying parade, so Mid-town and the park should be a tad calmer.

HUGE congrats to Mike Sadowsky & Keith Crispin for great showings at Monday's Boston Marathon.  Keith ran a great 3:04 and Mike weren't too far behind him, in 3:15.  There seemed to be a prevailing headwind on the course.  No jelly beans were seen hiding in the bushes, either.  Great race, guys!

A couple other results from last week... Chris Aitken ran a 1:53 at the Ocean City 1/2 Marathon two weekends ago, 91st out of the 350 entered.  Jolene See placed 3rd in her AG at the Think First 5k, in 27:38, about 46 seconds ahead of dad Craig.

If you are up for a trail treat this weekend, TRAIL TRIPLE CROWN is Saturday at White Clay State Park, 9am rain or shine.  Actually there are four distances (a quadruple crown?); Marathon, Half-Marathon, 10K & 5K.  And last week I sent out an app for a 5k at Mid-town High school, also this SUNDAY.  Let me know if you want me to resend that one.

Last note... MAC's Spring Fling Thing is set for Saturday, May 2 at the North Star.  The catered part has been dropped due to the lack of response, but the gathering will still take place, beginning at 6pm.  In other words, you're on your own for food AND drinks.  Jeanine has offered to arm wrestle anyone to pay for her margharitas.  This is a club fund raiser, so there will be some other ways to make that happen.  There's no cost to get in, however (translation - NO $15!).  PLEASE make plans to join us, eh?  Head count is 21 so far.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails... So how far did YOU run today, and did you like it?

Don't let today's weather deter you... I hear Saturday is gonna be a REAL spring day.  Perfect weather for our weekly club run at Silver Lake Elementary Schule.  0800 is the time.  There will be a couple of us hitting the pavement at 0700 if you are looking for some extra mileage.  And scrape up the extra change from your couch for donuts afterwards!

Good luck next Monday to Keith Crispin and Mike GONZO Sadowsky.  Both are headed to Boston for the annual Hopkinton to Boston pilgrimage.  Let us know how you do.  If you don't, I'll just look it up anyway... save me some effort, would ya?!

Two upcoming races to tell you about... the first is this weekend's Make-A-Wish 10k/5k at Buckley's Tavern in Centreville.  The race is Sunday.  Check out www.races2run.com for the details.  The app for the second race is attached and is a senior project for Mid-town student Brad Soviak.  This one is being held Sunday the 26th at the high school.

If you are planning to join us May 2 for the spring fling thing at North Star, please let me know by this Saturday (via email if possible so I don't screw up the head-count).  If we hit critical mass, we will have it catered ($15 per person).  If not, we'll just meet there for drinks and social... the food will be on you (really... ON you).

Congrats to Kevin McLaughlin for a nice 17:31 5,000m on the track last Saturday at the Philadelphia University Open track meet.  I was a few ticks ahead of the aforementioned punky runner, in 17:20.

Matt Sargent ran a nice 17:40 at the inaugural Race for a Better Delaware, placing 7th overall.  Judy Nazarewycz also ran a fine 30:53 (nice job!).  I didn't note any other club results... sorry if I missed yours, and no fair running under a false identity!  Let me know if you're racing or have raced.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks & trails....  sooooooooo how far did YOU run today?

Is there any better day than April Fool's Day?  Let's start today's eNotes with a birthday wish to Wendy Henke.  And none other than Tiger Woods would like to say 'Welcome to the Masters, Wendy'.  (the preceeding quote was by an impersonator and does not represent the opinions of the quoted, his agents, family or sponsors, or that of the PGA Tour).

Saturday's club run will be shifted up the road a tad to St. Andrew's for the Appoquiniminininnck Race for our River.  The event starts at 9am on the campus.  The 3-mile event is trail and good for runners and walkers.  http://www.apporiver.org/projects/CurrentProjects/Projects_C_WatershedRace.html is the direct race link.  The usual 8am gathering will also take place at Silver Lake Elementary School for 'the loop'.

Speaking of St. Andrews... nine spots left (as of 10am this morning) in the sprint triathlon held Dad's Day weekend.  If you're planning it, you'd better get registered - TODAY!

Congrats to Kathy 'Irish Dancer' Hanley for her fine 1:51 at the National 1/2 Marathon two weekends ago.  Anyone else head down that way?  I understand that has turned into a pretty good early spring race.  Any other race notes?  I really didn't look very closely this past week.

A couple upcoming events... the 10th annual Make-a-Wish 10k/5k/free beer afterwards event is April 19 at Buckley's Tavern in Centreville (cause that 'r' MUST go before the 'e' up there).  You can run both events, but not sure if that entitles you to twice as many free beverages.  It's on the home page of www.races2run.com

Also, attached is the pdf race app for the Race to Find a Cure 5k, (a MAC/Premier PT-produced event, might I add) on June 6.  The course has been tentatively set, with four or five man made hills yet to be constructed, three water pits, an obstacle course, and Nitro from American Gladiator at the finish line, daring you to cross.  Okay, so there is one little geological anomaly, both otherwise, a good course.

MAC - Hoodaygofas is in need of another body.  The American Odyssey Relay is the last weekend in April and we've lost a couple bodies to injury.  Is anyone interested in joining us for this 200-mile relay event?  We have 11 and could use a twelfth.  Let me know quickly... at present there are 9 guys and two ladies on the squad.

Calendar note... May 2 at the North Star for the MAC spring fling thing.  We'll have the full skinny on that next eNotes.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks & trails...Soooooooo how far did YOU run today?

MAC eNotes

The weekly club run will be held as usual this Saturday at 0800 at Silver Lake Elementary Schule.  There is also a small group of mileage hounds meeting up at 0700 for some 'marathon or bust' training, also at Silver Lake.  Hope to see you there and at the obligataory donut/bagel run that inevitably follows.  We will be starting up the C& D Canal runs in May (first Saturday of the month & those summer holidays)...  a nice change of pace and always fun to do fartlek in the presence of buzzards.

MAC had a nice showing at the first ever McGlynn's Pub 5k at People's Plaza last weekend.  Pat 'new daddy' Boettcher led the way with his 3rd place overall finish in 16:53.  His bride gave birth to their second a few days earlier, so apparently sleep deprivation hasn't set in yet.  The 'twins' Kendall Savage (1st AG) and Abby Heath (3rd AG) both PRed.  And fresh off his Princess 1/2 Marathon race, Craig See and daughter Jolene squeezed in under 30 minutes.  And yes, I raced and was fairly pleased - arm sleeves and all.

Texas Terry Sullivan recently ran a marathon near Houston, completing the beer-free event in 3:45.  Not sure which marathon it was, but seem to recall Terry was pleased with the results.  The aforementioned Craig See ran a nice a respectable 2:22 at the Princess 1/2 Marathon held at Disney World a couple weeks back.  Nice tiera, dude...  One results correction to make... Larry Price DID finish Caesar Rodney (his 20th consecutive, by the way) in 2:30.  Apparently, the results have him listed as an 'unknown' finisher.  But there are eye witness reports, including Larry's, that state it was him.  Good job, Lawrence!

Upcoming stuff - There's a race at St Andrews next Saturday, 4/4.  It should be a small race. The web site is http://www.apporiver.org.  We are currently looking at MAC teams for the DE Marathon Relay in May.  Any interest, let me know and I'll what formulas I can put together.  We had three teams and several individuals run last year.  MAC club social at the North Star is set for Saturday, May 2.  Please plop that on your calendar.  The course, though not finalized, has been laid out for the upcoming Race to Find a Cure, to be held June 6.  The apps are completed and will be circulated shortly.  Since this is a club-produced event, please make plans to either run, volunteer or come out and support the event and the accompanying Relay for Life.  The MOT Running series starts April 25 with the Breast Cancer Awareness 5k... check out the series details at www.motrunningcompany.com or stop by the store on Main Street.

Spring high school track season officially gets underway today.  Please come out and support the Mid-town Cavs and/or the Appo Quiniminks at a meet or three.

One last note... nice pic of the Conley children on the cover of the recent Clipper Magazine (and Dylan was hat-less!).  Stop by the store for your autographs and foto opps.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks & trails... Soooooo how far did YOU run today?

MAC eNoates

This week marks the 10th birthday of Spongebob Squarepants... just thought you should know.  The weekly MAC group run will be held Saturday at 0800, meeting at the cozy confines of Silver Lake Elementary School.  As all running eyes turn to thought about the upcoming Boston and Delaware Marathons, there will probably be a 7am group also heading out for those extra miles.

Speaking of Boston... good article in this month's (April, 2009) Running Times magazine offering up some training tips for the predominantly downhill course.  They are also applicable to the new DE Marathon course as well.

The 46th Caesar Rodney 1/2 marathon was a HUGE success for MAC!  We had 14 entered in the 1/2 and two others in the 5k.  Results...

Keith Crispin led the men MAC runners in a chip time of 1:24:57, followed by Kevin McLaughlin (1:26:57) John Poore (1:33:51) and Andy Norfleet (1:45:40).  Long-time Caesar Rodney participant Larry Price was unable to finish due to the lingering effects of a foot injury.  LP had finished the previous 19 races.

On the women's side, Jeanine Heath placed 14th overall in the women's race in 1:31:18.  She was followed by L.J. Slaughter (1:42:14), Courtney Chipouras (1:43:34), Irene Soucy (1:47:53), Dawn Land (1:54:46), Amy Brown (2:04:58), Elizabeth Snyder (2:09:44), Joyce Gibson (2:25:07) and Lori Saffici (2:25:29).

Jim Esrey ran in the 5k and placed 17th overall, 3rd in his AG, in a time of 23:01.  Great job to everyone who participated.  Several big PRs, several other running their first 1/2 marathon.  Gee, ain't that what this group is all about?

Speaking of the DE marathon... MAC relay teams should start jelling now.  Each team is four runners, with legs of 6.55 miles each. 41 teams are already entered and the freight is $140 up until tax day (4/15), then it goes to $180.

We are a solid GO for the 8th annual Race to Find a Cure 5k, to be held in Mid-town on Saturday, June 6, in conjunction with the Relay for Life.  Race apps are almost done and will be emailed out to you shortly.  They will also be available on the club website (www.macrunning.com).  The biggest help you can give us is to spread the word about this event.  This is a MAC/Premier PTSP produced race.

Last note... the MAC spring social will take place on Saturday, May 2 at the North Star.  We are hoping to use this partly as a fund-raiser to purchase a club race clock.  The other 'partly' for the evening will be to get together and have a blast.  Stay tuned for details on the 'best in speedo' competition to be held that night.

Other last note... please do not forget to send in your MAC dues for 2009.  The renewal period date is March 31.  Quite a lot of you have done so... thanks!

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails.... sooooooooooooooo, how far did you and Patrick Starfish run today?

MAC eNotes

Tis the weekend of Caesar Rodney, fa la la la laaaaaaaas la la la la

Springtime running makes us jolly, fa la la la laaaaaaaaaa la la la la

Whether you're fast or if you're slow, fa la la la la la la la laaaaaaaaa

To Rodney Square you must go, fa la la laaaaaaaa la la la laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I think I hit all the fa la la's... if not, eh.  This is the weekend of the oldest road race in Delaware and this year, there is also an accompanying 5k.  The 5k starts at 0830 Sunday morning and 1/2 marathon at 0930.  There are quite a few MAC members entered or planning to enter.  The 1/2 mx entry list was approaching 1,000 at last check.  I'm planning to give the 5k a go... anyone else?  I did note a few odd folks actually entered in both events.

If you are running either race or just coming down to yell 'don't suck!' at any of us, please gather on the steps of the Wilmington Trust Bank Building at 0915 for a MAC team foto.  And don't forget your MAC singlets, lest Tom track you down and make you need his services.  If you don't have one, see me Saturday morning at Silver Lake Elementary Schule, site of our regular weekly club run, at 0800.  The locker room is currently stocked!

Congrats to Danny Goodman for his nice 34:57 at Sunday's JCC Snowball Run.  Dad Rob pulled out with a slight calf pull.  Either that or he realized Danny was gonna beat him!  I think dad still has the upper hand in this family rivalry.  And I didn't note any MAC runners in the Logan House 5k on Saturday, although there were close to 700 finishers.  Everyone must be saving themselves for this weekend.  If you have a race result you'd  like to post, just drop me a note.

GREAT turnout for the first ever MAC ladies night this past Saturday.  And no one needed bailed out, so that's a good thing.  We are planning a club-wide social night for early May... details to follow shortly.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks, trails and SQUARES... soooo, how far did YOU run today?

captain 'I shall taunt you a second time'

MAC eNotes

If you are interested in some hill work this weekend, you have two choices.  You can either a)  join the MAC anti-gravity players for our first Saturday of the month run-up to Rockford Tower or b) visit my backyard, where thanks to the recent snow, I was able to pile-up the largest hill (made of snow) between the Route 896 bridge and White Clay Creek State Park.  GREAT for sledding for wee ones!

There will also be the regular group of flat-land loopers meeting at Silver Lake Elementary School.  Both groups will meet-up at 0800.  Hope to see you at one or the other.  If I do see you at both, there's something wrong with either you or me... I'm going with 'me'.

MAC's Ladies Night is THIS SATURDAY, March 7.  Meet-up at 6pm or shortly there-after at the North Star for an evening of socializing and no kids/men/worries.  Men, there may be a hockey game on TV... or Dr. Phil.

Here's a HUGE 'Save the Date' for everyone... Saturday, June 6, 2009.  MAC has agreed to take over the race duties for the RACE TO FIND A CURE, in conjunction with the Relay for Life in Middletown.  This 5k event used to be on the Thursday evening prior to the Relay for Life.  MAC will run the event this year as a part of our growing series of events (the others include Peach Festival, Scavenger Hunt and the xc Challenge event).  PLEASE keep this date open as we'll need volunteers and participants!  Wanna help with the planning phases?  Contact me and I'll get you in touch with the Relay contact.  Joe Ward & Kevin Douglas will be the MAC point folks for this.  This event was always a favorite on the local scene... we get to bring it back!

Congrats to speedy James Townsend on his recent 1:56.42 800m on the banked short loop of the Armory in NYC, at last week's Fast-Track Invitational.  Mr. 'almost as fast as Andy' runs for UD and aspires to some day be as bald as I am... and as fast.  Let me know if I missed any other race results.

This weekend's race events includes the Logan House 5k on Saturday and the JCC Snowball 5-miler on Sunday.  Check out www.races2run.com for details on either.  The racing season starts to heat up.  And of course, Caesar Rodney is next Sunday.  There is a 5k also associated with the half.  And in true Wayne Kursh fashion, you can actually run both!  The 5k starts one hour before the featured event.  Hope for REALLY crappy weather (like last year!).  Maybe that way, it might actually be nice...

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails!  Sooooooo, how far did YOU run today?

10 Running Rules to Remember (courtesy of Runner's World Magazine)

10 Running Rules to Remember

1. Do Your Own Thing

Whether you're running or racing, go your own pace, in your own space. "It gets on my nerves when people sprint ahead, then stop and walk in front of me," says a high school harrier who goes by Sonic Runner online. "When you catch back up to them, they start sprinting." Conversely, ask before you match strides. A "partner" joined Tricia Lee of , for the entire length of her very first race. "He kept bumping into me—for 13.1 miles."

What annoys me? Guys that can't handle being beat by girls and try to
sprint by me at the end!" —Kelsey Scheitlin Tallahassee,

2. Know Your Place

With 10.5 million people in races in 2007, starting lines get crowded, especially when ambitious (or impatient) runners and walkers start too far in front. "At the Disney marathon, there were some walkers four or five abreast, holding balloons and singing," says Stephan Pinchac of . "It was exhausting to get around them." If you find yourself slowing down, pull over to one side to let faster runners pass by.

3. Keep it Down

Sure, chatting helps pass the miles, but not everyone wants to eavesdrop. "I had to listen to three ladies discuss their bathroom schedules, and the impact of
calcium on their you-know-what," says Margaret Vento-Wilson of . Other irritants: too-loud iPods, slapping footfalls, jangling keys, and beeping heart-rate monitors. "I ran a 5K next to a guy who kept screaming, 'Hell, hell, hell,'" says Tom McKlin of . "It was hell!"

4. Leash Your Best Friend

Bringing your pooch to road races is discouraged by most race directors, but many of your fellow competitors won't mind too much, as long as you keep your four-legged friend close. "At a crowded 8K last fall, a guy running with two dogs refused to tighten up their leashes, so they were constantly moving around and tripping people," says Gwyneth Shaw of . And no dog imitating, either, please. "A guy at the Lilac Bloomsday Run, in , , barked like a dog for 7.46 miles," says John Hildebrand of .

5. Watch Your Step

There is a reason why aid stations are often on both sides of crowded race courses—so you don't have to cut people off to get to them. "One year at the Lilac Bloomsday, a young runner crossed right in front of me to get to one of the tables, forcing me to come to a near-abrupt stop," says Rod Steadman of Spokane. "After a sip or two, he did it again!" Doing a
run-walk plan? "Pull over to the side so you don't hurt someone behind you," says Laresa McIntyre of .

"To the guy at the marathon who used his cell to let his friends know the view at mile 14 was great: Please hang up the phone!" —Ron Harvey Tracy,

6. Aim Fluids Carefully

Yes, sometimes the fastest thing running is your nose. But please, focus on where you aim your snot rocket, or your spit. "One guy actually nailed me with a giant loogey during a training run on a path," says Wendy Shulik of . "I was behind him, unfortunately. I've also been splattered by spitters during many a race. So gross!" Also watch where you toss your half-finished cup of water. "I have never had blisters so huge, thanks to the butterfingers who poured a cupful down the back of my legs during the Marathon," says Chris Sahs of .

7. Don't Stink

"I once got stuck on a
treadmill next to a person who reeked of smoke," says C.J. Epperson. Unpleasant odors carry outdoors, too. It should go without saying, but wear clean clothes and limit your use of personal products. "I ran the Chicago Marathon next to a guy who had slathered on smelly menthol stuff," says Pat Agnello of . "Phew-ee!" Runners tend to be forgiving of bodily functions, but there's a limit. "I ran behind a guy who smelled like he ate a ton of bean burritos and drank a gallon of green chile before the race," Joe McLennan of says. "He stunk, bad."

8. Dress for Your Mom

Unless it's part of the program, as with 's Bay to Breakers, refrain from silly costumes and minimalist attire. "Some friends and I ran the ING Georgia Marathon in last year, and if you were there, you'll remember the guy who was wearing nothing but a canary-yellow Speedo," Tom McKlin of says. "Mr. Banana Hammock was a little doughy, and once the sweat seeped through the Speedo...let's just say that parents were covering their children's eyes."

9. No Whining

"The ones who quit a quarter of the way through a race because they're tired—or worse, not beating everyone else—now that's infuriating!" says Coyla Coblentz of . Lapsed runners who have quit running entirely because they think it has wrecked some aspect of their bodies—and remind you repeatedly it will happen to you, just you wait!—deserve special opprobrium. Michael Chertoff, the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, notes that his boss warns him off running all the time. The president, he says, "consistently tells me that I'm going to ruin my
knees and that I should start to bike. I tell him I'm going to run as long as I can."

"I hate it when people yell, 'You're nearly there!' when there are still several miles to go. When there's no finish line in sight, I'm not 'nearly there'!" —Heather Shea Danbury,

10. Just Run

"The most annoying runners are those who are sure their way is the only way—no headphones, no loud talking, no this, no that," says Susan Funk of Mystic, . "Better to see more people out and exercising than defining who is doing it 'right.'" Adds Cindy Cauzzort of , "I don't mind making room for someone faster or going around someone slower. After all, we are only in competition with ourselves. It's not about winning—it's about finishing what you start."

MAC eNotes (Ladies Night Out)

Oh yes it's ladies night, and the feelings right.  Oh yes it's ladies night (Oh what a night...)  I have two DIFFERENT ladies night notes to pass along, but first...

Our regular club run will take place this Saturday at 0800 at Silver Lake Elementary Schule.  The marathon overachievers will meet up at 0700 for an extra bit o' mileage.  I'm almost out of coupons for Dunkin' Bagel & Donut but we'll probably head over there afterwards.  Hope you are able to join us!

Our last hill session from the Zoo to Rockford will take place 0800, Saturday, March 7, a full eight days before Caesar Rodney.  It won't be as intense as recent workouts, but will still be beneficial.  Anyone doing Boston, this is also a great place to get some anti-gravity work in.  NASA will be there testing the decreasing PSI as you climb.

Speaking of C/R, I have not entered a C/R team this year.  We were down to five somewhat healthy runners, meaning there would have been some extra cost involved for the squad, and as soon as we do that, more of you get hurt.  Thank me later...

Ladies Night Corner #1 - From MOT Running Company:

Ladies Night, Thursday, February 26 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at MOT Running Company Stop on by for an informal mix and mingle.  Featured guests will be The Next Level (weight management/hormone therapy),  B-Fit Enterprises (chair massages), Christopherʼs Salon and Spa (mini-manicures), Nikken (Living Well and Osteoporosis), Tone & Conditioning (fitness), and Mizuno (womenʼs engineered shoes).  Women receive a 20% discount during Ladies Night, while enjoying light refreshments, massages, and wine!

Please call 302-464-1037 or email MOTRC!

Ladies Night Corner # 2 - From MAC:

Meet up on Saturday  March 7 at 6pm at the North Star for dinner, drinks and some 'away from the dudes' social time.  Dads will take care of the kids and get you home, should you need it!  No discounts provided (unless Barb has coupons) of which we are aware, other than reduced life stress.

Anyone running the JCC Snowball 5-miler on March 8?  There is also the season's first 5k on March 7.  Check out www.races2run.com for the details.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails... sooooooooooo, how far did YOU run today?

captain fasnaught day (look it up)

MAC eNotes

Warmer weather is on its way... apparently no time soon, based upon the forecast temps for Saturday, but don't let THAT deter you from joining us for our weekly club run, this Saturday at 0800 at Silver Lake Elementary Schule.  The marathon training-types are meeting at 0700 for some additional mileage, so feel free to come out early.  We always loop back for the rest of the group...

Bring some change from your couch and join us at Dunkin Donut afterwards for some caffeine and carb reloading.  I plan on asking the ownership there to knock out a wall and enlarge the place.  Oh, and bring back my snickers hot chocolate!  Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

Ladies of MAC, listen up (and this has nothing to do with Valentine's Day, so get over it...).  Need a night out for some unwinding?  Join the other XX chromosones on Saturday, March 7 at the North Star in Middletown for an evening out.  Dinner, drinks, conversation, drinks, training secrets, drinks, making fun of the XY's, drinks, etc...   Get-together around 6pm.  And if you happen to over-inbibe, the men of MAC will come get you and deposit your carcas back home.   Hope you're able to make it... I won't see you there, unless you have a bunch of one dollar bills burning a hole in your running skirt.

No race results from the past week to speak of... C/R is fast approaching, as is the JCC Snowball Run (five miler).  Check out www.races2run.com for the area spring schedule.

Please don't forget club dues are due 3/31.  If you aren't sure of your status, drop me a note.

One last note... I've had some interest in additional club apparel.  If you are interested in some sort of technical apparel (coolmax tshirts, long sleeve, underwear) drop me a note.  There will be some cost associated with it to individual members, but I won't know what that is until I get an idea of what you may want (audience participation here, please...).  Thanks.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks & trails!  Sooooo, how far did YOU run today?

MAC eNotes - MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION

Greetings all!

It's time to request annual dues from you for your club membership.  I've attached a copy of the application for you to download, fill out and either mail to the PO Box or bring to a regular weekly run.  Many of the original members never filled out a club app, so I am asking you to do that now (it's a matter of legalese with the RRCA... sorry).

There are a number of you who have already paid dues for the upcoming year.  If you have any questions, please let me know and I will check your status.

Dues for the period April 1, 2009 through March 31, 2010 are the same as last year; $10 per person; $15 per family unit; $5 per student.

I'm hopeful that all of you will renew.  Our club has grown from a headcount of less than 40 to over 100 in the past 12 months.  We helped the Peach Festival event contribute $600 more to the schools' scholarship funds this past year and hosted two brand new events.

Premier Physical Therapy and Sports Performance has again agreed to be our angel sponsor, including covering the costs of singlets, a free eval for all club members and a generous savings for some of their services (check the website for specifics).  Please thank Pat, Tom and the staff when you see them.

I truly appreciate running with you all; and more importantly knowing you all.  Thank you!

MAC eNotes

I just returned from Cali-forn-eye-a

Thus these here MAC notes were delayed by a day

I'm off of my schedule by 24 hours

At least I'm not chased by a guy named Jack Bowers

So here's this week's offering, being sent one day late

Please kiss me on Saturday and tell me I'm great!

I have a friend who religiously (some would say anally) tracks every mile run in every state he's visited.  He has at least four miles in every state in the .  I think I'm up to 26 states now.  Let's add to our totals this Saturday at our weekly MAC club run, to commence at 0800 at Silver Lake Elementary Schule.  Oh, and if you wear anything red or with hearts, you're not invited...

Saturday is the state high school indoor championship meet at the UD's indoor track facility.  The meet starts at 9am and probably goes ALL DAY LONG.  Good luck to the short oval runners.

Not a lot else on the racing scene this weekend.  There is a 10k in (check out www.washingtonruns.com for the details).  Next week is a nice 5-miler in Ambler, PA; http://www.aarclub.com/frostbite/default.htmBoth are good tune-up events for those of you running the Caesar Rodney 1/2 in March.

Speaking of C/R... I have one MAC team to enter (Howard Kutcher, Andy Norfleet, Keith Crispin, Joe Pittman, Doug Kenney, Jeanine Heath, Amy Brown).  Y'all have already registered, so there's nothing else you need to do.  I have a team form and will forward that to the race director.  I think Joyce Gibson is also running C/R.  Anyone else?  And let me know if you need a singlet for this... I have them in the locker room.  And no, it doesn't smell.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails!  Sooooo, how far did YOU run today?

MAC eNotes

The groundhog is stew!  What does he know anyway?  Lies around all year, getting fat and sleeping 23 1/2 hours a day.  Sheesh... I have invited him to join us for our weekly MAC run this Saturday, but I would suspect he won't make it.

We have TWO running groups this weekend... it is the first Saturday of the month, meaning there is a training group headed to Wilmington to work on anti-gravity (aka HILL training) in prep for Caesar Rodney and the DE Marathon (note there is a new course this year which includes two tours up the hills of Park Drive & Kentmere Parkway (not all the way to Rockford Tower, however).  Meet at the llamas/Brandywine Zoo parking lot at 0800 (adjacent to Monkey Hill).

Group two (the flatlanders) will meet at the usual site, Silver Lake Elementary Schule, also at 0800.

PLEASE NOTE... late Friday evening the Rte 896 bridge over the C&D Canal will be closed to traffic (for at least the next week) so please make travel arrangements as needed.   No Howard, that is not an invitation to run across it...

The state high school indoor champs meet is set for 2/14, to be held at UD's indoor facility.  The Appo Quiniminks, Charter and the Midtown Cavs will be competing... go cheer on the youts!  Start time according to the N5CTA site is 9am and the facility isn't THAT big, so arrive early for a seat or quickly get hired as an assistant coach somewhere for certain entrance to the track.

No results from the past week.  Here is a link for out of the area racing February events, if the spirit so moves you to find that winter anaerobic gear:  http://www.races2run.com/2009/2009Schedules/02-2009.htm

The JCC Snowball 5-miler is set for March 8th and the Logan House 5k is the day before, March 7.  Both are great events for either tunin' up the fast twitch and or to shake off the winter blahs...loads of fun.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks & trails.... soooooooooo, how far did YOU run today?

Well well well... we finally got some snow!  I was on the C&O Canal last week and there had been a snow that morning, giving me about 2 inches of the stuff on which to run.  Okay, bring on the groundhog.  They are mighty tasty!

Since Thanksgiving, we've been averaging almost 20 at each club run.  This Saturday is another chance to get together for a few miles as we'll meet at Silver Lake Elementary Schule at 0800.  The overachievers and those in marathon training for the spring will be there at 0700 for some extra miles.   Bring a couple extra bucks cause I can bet we'll end up at Dunkin Donuts afterwards.

Speaking of distance training... our next hill session will take place Saturday Feb. 7th up in Wilmington.  We meet at 0800 in the parking lot adjacent to the llamas and the Brandywine Zoo for a series of anti-gravity work up the Caesar Rodney hill (bottom to top it's two miles).  Some of us run these at race tempo, some don't.  But we do like to at least pair up for this one.  Let me know if you want more details.

I'm short on race results from the last week or so, but did want to give props to Mike Gonzo Sadowsky for a fine 9:31 3,000m at the recent UD Indoor Open track meet two Sundays ago.  Nice shootin' Tex!  I had a chance to run in a rare winter cross country race, held on the Belmont Plateau this past Sunday.  I covered the 8k course in 29:52 (ground was solid as concrete, even the goose poop!) and was 2nd master.  Anyone else venture into world of anaerobic endeavors?

Quick Boston check - so far the aforementioned Gonzo and Keith Crispin are headed to the annual Hopkinton to Boston race.  Anyone else planning an April trip?  And who's in for the Delaware Marathon in May?  The course has been altered (again).  There will be a few MAC teams entered in the marathon relay.  No 10-miler this year but an open half Mx instead.  And the team runners will each run 6.55 miles.

No further developments in a C/R 1/2 team.  There are four MAC runners running - Andy Norfleet, Keith, Doug RB Kenney and Jeanine RB2 Heath.  Anyone else?  We should do this sooner... not later, so let me know.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails... and NO slipping!   So, how far did YOU run today?

MAC eNotes

Time to shake off those mid-winter blues with a nice weekly club run this Saturday at 0800 at Silver Lake Elementary Schule. I do believe a few members of the over-achiever's club will be out at 0700, looking to pick up some extra frostbite and an additional six miles.

A couple 'team event' notes... Caesar Rodney does have a team competition again this year.  Last year, MAC won the Master's Coed Division by about 3,000 minutes.  If you are interested in forming a team or joining one, please let me know and I'll see what I can do about getting y'all together.  Teams are 5 to 7 runners, with the top five scoring.  Team entry is $225, which is $32.14 per person for a team of 7 (By the way, individual entry before 2/1 is $35, so you'd save a couple bucks).

The American Odyssey MAC team is in place.  I've not had a lot of call for a second team at this point.  Teams need at least six people for this 200 mile race but I wouldn't recommend that... even I ain't that insane.  The current team, MAC Hoodaygofas has 12 members.  Please don't look this up or google it.  Really.

This past weekend's Pub Crawl was a huge flaming success.  We had over 30 popsicles running the 5.25 mile route from Kay Dee's Tavern to Applebees, with five other stops in between.  Thank you all for behaving, for the fun & enjoyment, and for NO public urination (of which I am aware, anyway).  Pictures are up on the shutterfly site: http://middletownathleticclubphotosite.shutterfly.com/
And ask Joe & Lou about their push-ups.

Keith Crispin has informed he that he is helping to form a "kids on the run" program on the north side of the canal.  It will launch off from Olive B. Loss Elementary School a couple times a week and he's looking for volunteer coaches and 4th/5th grade kids to participate.  No cost to join here.  Drop him an email (he's on the distribution list and a new club member!) for the particulars.

Congrats to James 'speedy' Townsend for his recent sub 2:00 800 at the Penn State Indoor meet.  He ran a 1:57 & change under cover... probably a 1:55 or so outdoors.  Nice... hope you didn't wear those hideous biker shorts, dude.

A good mid-winter race event and fitness tester is the Ambler Frostbite 5-miler:  http://www.aarclub.com/frostbite/default.htm.  The date is Saturday, Feb. 21.  I just noticed that I'm still in the top 100 all-time times on this course, too (at 50th!).  There is some prize $$$ here.  After that, the JCC Snowball run is the first weekend in March, also a five miler.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks & trails... so, how far did YOU run today?

MAC eNotes - Pub Crawl!!!!

It's FINALLY here.  No, not the latest order from Road Runner Sports or the bitterly cold weather or even that pesky in-law who visits every January and never leaves.  I'm talking about PUB CRAWL WEEKEND!  It is MAC's annual banquet, social, miscreant adventure run all rolled up into one event.

The normal club run will still take place at 0800 at Silver Lake Elementary School.  Note I am usuing the term 'normal' with some license here.  It is a relative term for this group.

The Pub Crawl will start to gather at 12noon at KD's Tavern, 709 S. Broad Street, across and up a smidge from the middle school parking lot.  Club members pay no entry fee; non-members need to pony up $10 OR just fill out a club app, pay $10 and have at it!  We will head towards our second stop, the Sand Bar, some time between 12:45 and 1:00pm.  From there, it's anybody's guess.

A few reminder notes about the Crawl.  This is NOT a drunk-fest so please, exhibit some semblance of responsibility.  I know we have a few attorney's in the group but I'm not sure if they specialize in defense counsel.  It is going to be cold and quite possibly breezy.  We will be in and out of the elements multiple times, so keep that in mind as you pick your attire for the day.  We will be running past MOT Running Company, so if you are overly wet or uncomfy, just pop in and buy a new outfit!  I'm sure Tina will let you change in the back.

ALL beverages/food/etc... are your responsibility, unless you can catch Jim Esrey at a moment of weakness and convince him to buy you a round.  Please bring $$$ as well as picture ID.  A light-weight fanny pack ain't a bad idea.  Tuck a few gels or jelly beans in there for Mike Roth.  It is a long day.

We will meet up at Bogeys at the end of the day, probably around 6pm or so, for din din and happy hour.  If you can't make the run, feel free to pop in to Bogeys for the after-run.  Any questions?  Feel free to email me or call my celly (which I will also be carrying with me - not a bad idea if you have kids).  540-683-6800 is the number.

The racing landscape is rather barren for awhile (though there are a few out of the area races like the Ambler 5-miler in Feb.).  I'll keep an eye out.  One racing note... applications are now being accepted for the Sprint Triathlon at St. Andrews in June.  This one sells out every year so enter early.  Check www.races2run.com for entry information.

Congrats to 'Goofy' Chris Aitkens for his double at the Disney Marathon and 1/2 marathon last weekend.  In 78 degree weather (thanks for rubbing that in, Chris), he ran a 2:05 1/2 Mx on Saturday and a 4:45 full monty on Sunday.  Awesome job, dude!

Seven MAC members ran Sunday's Icicle 10-miler in Wilmington, including Rob Goodman (63:29, 3rd AG), Keith Crispin (65:48, 5th AG), Joe Pittman (67:01), Hector Opio (PR in 67:33), Doug 'RB' Kenney (PR in 70:47), Jeanine 'RB2' Heath (PR in 70:54, 3rd AG), and new member Joyce Gibson, in her first 10miler (nicely done).

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails (and barstools this weekend!).... sooooooooooooo how far did YOU run today?

captain yuengling (just in case you wondered)

MAC eNotes

If you are planning a run later today, I would recommend mask, fins and snorkel.  It is quite the sloppy day out, but hey, a bad day as a runner is better than the best day as a non-runner, right?

Our weekly club run will take place this Saturday at 0800 at Silver LAKE (might be more like a small sea by then) Elementary Schule.  Hope to see you there.

If you don't show up, I'll assume you're running the Icicle Race in Wilmington on Sunday.  Here's the link if you are interested:  http://www.races2run.com/2009/2009Details/01-2009details.htm#011109-psci

Also this weekend is the UD Open Indoor track meet.  Since the U has recently removed the men's indoor program from varsity status (effective next year), it'd be nice to go out and at least spectate/support the program.  Here is the info for Friday's Invitational:
http://www.bluehens.com/sportsinfo/mens_indoor_track/UDIndoorTrackInvite1909.pdf

There is also an all-comer's meet on Sunday, if you want to give the indoor oval a go-around.  The Sunday meet is for the non-collegians and unattached (that would be US!).

Those of you saving your strength for the upcoming Pub Crawl... it's quickly approaching!  The meet-up time/location is KD's Tavern at high noon on Saturday the 17th.  We will conclude the 'foot traffic' portion at Applebee's (some time before dusk) and then motor to Bogey's for the post-event event.  If you are unable to do the running portion, feel free to meet up with us early eve at Bogey's for the annual club party.

One last note of business... the Middletown Athletic Club has again renewed its membership in the Road Runners Club of America.  This provides us support & insurance coverage for all of the whacky stuff we do, and allows us to support local youth running programs (including the Peach Festival 5k).  Club dues for 2009 are due 3/31/09.  Let me know if you have any questions about dues and such.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails!  Soooooooo how far did YOU swim (er RUN) today?

MAC eNotes

Though it's only Tuesday I think it's fair to say
That Wednesday's eNotes update will be early by a day

The new year is upon us and resolutions we must make
But one more day of running in '08 for goodness sake

So meet up tomorrow morn in the usual location
For the loop around Noxontown and some friendly motivation

Happy New Year to you all, thanks for your friendly faces
I'm glad that you support the MAC, no matter what your pace is

We have planning a New Year's Rockin' Eve (all due respect to Dick Clark) club run for tomorrow morning at 0800 at Silver Lake Elementary Schule.  I do not want to see any New Year's Baby diapers, however.  Father Time costumes are acceptable.  Even I have standards.  Our regular club run will be this Saturday, also at the Lake, also at 0800.  I had planning on running with some of our 'younger' members today, but they couldn't get out of bed before double digits on the clock.  Their loss!

Speaking of racing time... seems the Von Trapp family of runners known as the Soucy's cleaned up at Sunday's Race Against Time 5k in Wilmington.  By my count there were FIVE finishers, mom Irene, dad Scott, both girls and one son.  Craig See and daughter Jolene were also on hand, lobbying to have their last names changed to Soucy (and both running well).

Back on 12/20, Joe Pittman and Rocco Rinaldi both ran (and placed top 12) at the Snowball 5k in Lewes.  Joe clocked a nice 18:45 for 3rd overall, and Rocco placed 12th in 22:10.

Keith Crispin forwarded me the following from the Trail Dawgs:  The Trail Dawgs are running at Fair Hill this weekend.  I think the shortest loop is a half marathon.  Being itʼs a Fair Hill it will definitely be a good / hard workout. http://www.udel.edu/johnmack/traildawgs/phunt_09.htm
Looks like some fun.  I've never run there and need to get up to at least have a go at the trails.

Also this weekend is the Road to the Super Bowl 5k: http://www.races2run.com/2009/2009Details/01-2009details.htm#010409-superbowl.  11am start and always a nice event.  No truth to the rumor that they give away Super Bowl rings to AG winners.  Sorry Geoff...

Pub Crawl weekend is approaching!  January 17, 12noon at Kay Dee's Tavern on Broad Street.  Don't look for it in advance, you probably won't find it, unless the sign gets hung early.  One 'watering hole' adjustment... the Middletown Fishy place (formerly Witherspoons, formerly Secrets, formerly Chris Ward's favorite place) will not be serving, ahem, 'Adult beverages' (no license).  Sooooooooooo we're just gonna head up the road and make Applebees our final stop before Bogeys.

Non club members are welcome to join us for the event, but there is a $10 reg fee for them.  Club members are free for this event.  Shirt orders have been placed and will be available on event day.  If you did not place an advanced order, there will be no extras (sorry - no I'm not - yes I am).

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails... this year or next!  Soooooo, how far did YOU run today (and at what time?)

MAC eNotes

From the entire editorial staff and management of the MAC eNotes, we hope you have a joyous holiday season.  Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah.  And may your runs be downhill with an ever so slight tailwind.

By the way, I have been accused of housing multiple people inside my brain.  No I don't.  Yes you do.  Anyway...

Our regular club run will take place this Saturday at 0800 at Silver Lake Elementary School.  Please wear every single new running item you receive as a gift so that we may all revel in it with you.  Gift card?  Tape it to your new hat.

A couple upcoming area races of which to remind you... this Sunday is the Race Against Time 5k in Wilmington.  January 11 is the annual freeze yer a** Icicle 10-miler, also in Wilmington.  Info for both can be found at www.races2run.com.  Let me know if you are planning either or iether or both (or niether).

Our next club hill training session is Saturday, Jan. 3 at 0800.  We meet in the parking lot adjacent to the Brandywine Zoo.  I got there early last time and realized they don't always have the gates to the parking lot opened in a timely manner.  The keeper of the key showed up at 0755 so we were good.... just a FYI.

Pub Crawl reminder... January 17 at 12noon, starting at KD's tavern.  The event is free to club members.  Non-members are $10.00.  Gee, for that they may as well join the club, eh?  Yes, I will have club apps available at the Tavern.  The post-North Star event will be held at Bogeys.  We have decided to go with the menu fare (aka 'You're on your own for food') but we will have a private room.

Our recent group runs have been well-attended.  THANK YOU!  We try to have a running pace for everyone and almost always succeed.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails.... soooooooo, how far did YOU run today?

MAC eNotes

This coming week we are scheduling two club runs (for you overachiever-types).  The first is our regular club run at Silver Lake Elementary Schule this Saturday, 0800.  There is a small group of us who gather around 7:10am for either an extra six miles or a game of flag football.  The second run will take place Christmas Eve, also at 0800 at Silver Lake.  If your boss isn't a Scrooge and you've finished all of your holiday prep, come join us for reindeer practice.  (egg nog not included).

One race result that was overlooked... great job Joe Pittman at the Boars Head 5k in Charlottesville, VA back on Thanksgiving Day.  Joe ran a nice 19:30 on a hilly course for 10th overall/2nd AG.

The Pub Crawl is approaching (one month from today)... shirt orders have been good (at least 23 thus far).  Something new this year... rather than take the party to someone's house afterwards, we will move the show to Bogey's by car after the last bar stop (The North Star - the route has been reversed this year).  We do have access to a private room and have the option of having them cater it for $10 per person.  The other option is to just order from the menu.  We need to let them know by 1/5 if we plan on the catering option.  Please give me some feedback.

The first 12-person MAC team for the American Odessey 200 mile Relay is complete (for the most part - NO INJURIES).  This little weekend event takes place April 24-25 (Fr-Sa) and covers a route from Gettysburg to DC.  Shout if you want more info and I'll shoot you the website.  If you do this event, leave your sense of smell at home.... it isn't pretty.

The MAC website update is complete... go check out www.macrunning.com and let me know what you think.  Thanks to Tom at Premier PTSP for getting that taken care of for us.  Read the RESULTS post for a review of the club for 2008.  Any website suggestions - let me know.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks & trails.... sooooooooooo, how far did YOU run today?

MAC eNotes

It's the 10th of December and 60 degrees
I ran outside with bare elbows and knees

It felt so good to be unemcumbered
No way did I want to be back all aslumbered

However this weekend will not be so tepid
But runners of MAC we all are intrepid

To join in the run, this Saturday morn
Miss it and you're in big trouble I warn.

At the Lake we call Silver, bring your old sleepy head
And if you don't make it, I'll short-sheet your bed!

We'll be meeting up at Silver Lake Elementary Schule at 0800 this Saturday for our regular group run.  I think there is a small group of overachievers who show up earlier (around 7ish) for an extra six miles.  Based on last week's turnouts at both group runs (the Lake & Rockford), we should have a nice turnout this weekend!

Not much in the order of racing and such the past week.  I'm aware of a few club members who ran the Reindeer Romp 5k in Newark last Friday night, including Geoff the dad Heath and daughter Abby (who PRed in 27:27!). Kendall Savage was with the Heath clan at the Reindeer Run and PRed at 23:44. Craig 'where the trail?' See was also present.  Anyone else?  The results are not yet posted.

Upcoming race events to pencil on your calendar include Icicle 10-miler in January and both the JCC Snowball 5-miler & Caesar Rodney 1/2 Mx in March.  Speaking of C/R, Doug sent me the team application for the 2009 race.  Might be a little early to think about but then again... keep it in mind if you are planning to run it.

Don't forget our 4th Annual Pub Crawl on Saturday January 17, beginning at 12noon.  We'll wind our way through Middletown, terrorizing the inhabitants and otherwise wreaking havoc, til we reach the North Star.  Afterwards, the sober & designated drivers will transport us to Bogies for the post-event party.  Please remember, we've never had an issue with anyone overindulging... let's maintain that streak!

http://middletownathleticclubphotosite.shutterfly.com/ is a new club website for pictures, reminder notes, postings, etc...  Much of what I send out gets posted there so please bookmark it.  Also, Geoff Heath has done a fabulous job of posting pics there.  The club's outreach site, www.macrunning.com is still active and in the process of being updated.  If you run into anyone who is interested in joining us, please send them to this site for an overview of club.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks & trails.... soooooooo, how far did YOU run today with naked elbows?

MAC eNotes

Eet ees chilly no?  I have determined that whatever my temp reading on-line might be, subtract about 6-8 degrees.  Heck, I almost wore tights this morning!

There will be two training groups this weekend.  The first is the regular group run at Silver Lake Elementary at 0800 for the loop.  The second group will be venturing north to the Brandywine Zoo to run up to Rockford Park.  We'll meet in the parking lot adjacent to the zoo at 0800.  This little venture happens the first Saturday of each month leading up to Caesar Rodney in March.  If you are interested in the hill work, let me know and I'll fill you in on what we do (the up part can be a bit tempo-ish but we do run together for the w/up & c/down).   Just remember... gravity works.

Wow... what a great turnout by MAC at the MS 5k & 10k's last Thursday.  I counted 14 of us there, including some age group award winners in the bunch.  The 10k group was led by Steve 'new papa' Majkrzak, who placed 9th overall.  Also placing in AG's in the 10k include Geoffrey Heath (lil Pre), mom Jeanine, Courtney 'tri - this' Chipouras and Matt 'where ya been' Sargent.  Dani Lambert, Tina M (wifey of Mr. 9th place) and new member Amy Brown also ran the 10k.

In the 5k, Stef Taylor tuned up for her NE Foot Locker race with some dignity work, Abby & Geoff the dad Heath, Joe 'speedo' Ward and Craig 'stick foot' See also participated.  And Tina decided that five weeks after giving birth means 'no wimp', so she ran the 5k as well.  How many years in a row for this race, Tina?

Other race notes include Wendy Henke deciding that warm weather racing was better than cold weather racing... she placed 3rd overall female/1st AG at the Outback 6k (6K?  really?) in Jacksonville Florida.  Rob Goodman was the 9th master at the Delaware State xc Championships held at Brandywine this past Saturday, in 19:28... proving that 'seasoned' runners can get faster as we age.  Larry 'I never met a 5k I didn't like' Price kept up his streak of North Central Trail Marathon appearances (held in central Maryland), finishing in 5:09.  He likes to think of the marathon as 8.4 consecutive 5k's.

Lastly, congrats to Stephanie Taylor, Sam Walton, Alex Nipon and Luke Waltemire for their runs at the Foot Locker North East Regional high school cross country races in New York on Saturday.

Calendar notes... Icicle 10-mile Run is 1/11 (a Sunday affair).  The following Saturday (1/17) is the 4th annual MAC Pub Crawl.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks & trails... soooo, how far did YOU run today?

captain shiver me timbers

MAC eNotes

My fingers are cold so apologies in advance for typos...

Two runs to keep in mind as we head towards the holiday weekend.  First is tomorrow's MS 5k/10k run/walk/calorie disposer so you can crank on the turkey and stuffing event.  The 10k starts at 9am and the 5k at 10:15.  Check out www.races2run.com for details.  A bunch of us will be there.

Our regular club run is Saturday at Silver frozen Lake Elementary Schule at 0800.  So long as I have on gloves, I'll be fine... thanks for asking!

Anyone planning to run the DE State Open XC race at Brandywine on Saturday?  I know Rob Goodman is headed there, looking for one last chance to beat his son (in a race, anyway)... kinda the way I viewed the Punk v Geezer thing with nephew Geoffrey!  Good luck in the mud.

Lots of race results from this past weekend... apologies up front if I missed your name as I perused through.  Please let me know...

I only caught Howard 'Gobi man' Kutcher from Philly, in a time of 4:07.  Cold and blustery day!  At the inaugural Rehoboth Marathon and Mx Relay, John Costello ran a 3:53 and Pat 'punk beater' Boettcher ran 3:00:04... couldn't find four seconds, eh?  Nice race guys!  In the Relay division, Irene Soucy and Tina Conley teamed up on Team Kickin' Chicks to run a 4:10.  Chris Aitken was also on a team, running a 1:53 for his leg.  Bet THAT was a nice warm calm day at the beach.

The second oldest race in the state is the Newark Turkey Trot.  In the 10k race, Doug 'special K' Kenney led the way for MAc placing 8th overall in 41:51.  Erika Lukasiewicz placed 3rd overall in the women's division in 45:06.  Rob Pritchard ran his first eveer 10k in 57:05.  Just ahead of him was stick dude Craig See in 56:49.  In the 5k, James 'duckin' the Captain' Townsend was 3rd overall in 17:35 (nice time!).  Newbies Justin Geissler (20:00) and Nadia Cumming (23:14) were both AG placers.  Craig See liked the course so much he doubled back and also ran the 5k... musta been well marked.

One training note to keep in mind... Caesar Rodney ain't THAT far off.  We'll begin our hill sessions at Rockford in early December, with the first one schedule for 12/6.  We'll meet in the parking lot adjacent to the zoo at 0800.  Plan on the first Saturday of each month (Jan, Feb & Mar) with C/R 1/2 on Sunday March 15.  If you are not running C/R, this is still a great way to get some good strength/tempo work in during the winter.

The Club will be working to organize a meeting with other like-minded but upset running and community-types regarding the threatened dismantling of the UD men's xc & track programs.  I think if we approach this correctly, we may be able to have a positive impact on the outcome.  Let me know if you have any ideas... details will be coming next week.

Lastly... pub crawl details were sent out Sunday.  Let me know if you have any questions!  We're looking forward to our mobile party.

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks & trails... with gloves on!  Soooooo, how far did you run today?  Oh, and save the neck for me, Clark.

4th Annual MAC Pub Crawl - Note from Andy

The 4th annual mobile party, to take place Saturday, January 17, 2009 beginning at 12 noon.  The route is '98%' certain, so there is an ever so slight chance of a change, but I'd doubt it at this point.

A couple of important notes...

If you want a shirt, the number and size(s) order must be placed by Saturday 12/20, along with the $10 per shirt payment.  Payment must be in advance.  If you want to mail it to me, that's fine... just ask and I'll provide my address.  Make checks out to MAC.  This year I must have the $$$ in advance.

The after-crawl will take place at Bogies.  We are debating whether to just buy food off the menu or have it catered by Bogies (at $10 per person).  Drinks are on you and we are not permitted to bring food from home.  There is a separate room for us that has been reserved, cause we know how out of control some of you can be.  Parents and other non-MAC members are welcome to the afterparty.

This year's crawl is a free club event (meaning no registration fee).  Again, non-club members, parents, etc... are welcome to participate but there will be a $10 registration fee charged.  And as always, what you consume is your responsibility.  A sign-in sheet with be present at KD's Tavern for both club and non-club members.

Questions?  Feel free to contact me.  Hope to see you on the roads, tracks, trails, and bar stools!

4th Annual MAC Pub Crawl - January 17, 2009

THE FOURTH ANNUAL ATHLETIC CLUB ‘Pub Crawl’ IS SET FOR SATURDAY, JANUARY 17, BEGINNING AT 12:00PM AND WILL WIND ITS WAY THROUGH SEVEN (7) DIFFERENT ‘REFRESHMENT’ STOPS.

THIS YEAR’S STEP-OFF POINT WILL BE KAY DEE’S (also known as Kevin Douglas’ residence).  FROM THERE IT WILL HEAD TO THE SAND BAR, TOM FOOLERY’S, BUFFALO WILD WINGS, THE NEW WITHERSPOONS, TEQUILA’S AND WILL END AT THE NORTH STAR.

THIS YEAR, THE WEBSITE ‘MAP MY RUN’ WAS USED TO DETERMINE THAT THE COURSE WAS ENTIRELY TOO LONG.  HOWEVER, IT’S PROBABLY CLOSE TO 4.55 MILES.

AFTER THE LAST STOP, CLUB MEMBERS AND FAMILY’S ARE INVITED TO ATTEND A CLUB POST-DRINK DRINK-OFF AT BOGIES, SITE OF THE ORIGINAL PUB CRAWL KICK-OFF.  BRING CASH…

KEVIN DOUGLAS, FRESH OFF HIS TRIP TO COMMUNE WITH THE TIBETAN MONKS STATED “If I’m gonna run that far, there better be beer.”  READERS WILL NOTE THE LAST TIME MR. DOUGLAS RAN THAT FAR, HE FLIPPED OFF THE AUTHOR WITH BOTH BIRDS.

THE EVENT ENTRY FEE IS FREE TO ALL CURRENT MAC MEMBERS BUT WILL COST $1,000,000.00 TO NON-MEMBERS.  HOWEVER, IF YOU PURCHASE A BEVERAGE FOR ANY CURRENT MEMBER, $10 WILL PROBABLY SUFFICE.   T-SHIRTS WILL BE AVAILABLE BUT ORDERS AND THE SCRATCH MUST BE RECEIVED BY DECEMBER 20, 2008.  SHIRTS WILL ALSO BE $10.00 EACH, OR $25 IF WE DON’T LIKE YOU.

THE ATHLETIC CLUB IS MADE UP OF A BUNCH OF LOCAL MISCREANTS WHO HAVE NO HOME LIFE AND SPEND COPIOUS AMOUNTS OF TIME THINKING UP THESE DUMB EVENTS.  RUNNERS OF ALL ABILITY AND MINDSET LEVELS ARE WELCOME!

MAC eNotes

It might say November, but it's feeling like January!  This week's club run will take place from the frozen tundra of Silver Lake Elementary schule, where the grass and pavement have the same amount of 'give' to them.  Start-time is the usual... 0800.  Bring a speedo and think warm thoughts.

Thank you to everyone who made our first MAC XC Challenge event a success.  23 finishers and lots of gloating by old people took place.  I am certain the young 'uns will organize better next year.  The final tally was Geezers-16, Punks -45.  They've already challenged us to a track meet in the late spring.

A BIG thank you to everyone who helped with set-up, results, finishing chute, etc... Tom and Premier PT was HUGE!  Nick Ward and mom Barb came out and shivered for everyone.  My bride Adrienne and her 1/16/06 sister Jeanine worked the finish line with Tom.  And Geoff took some GREAT pics, which have been posted on the new shutterfly site.  http://middletownathleticclubphotosite.shutterfly.com/   I hope I didn't miss anyone.  Apologies if I did...

Congrats to Denise Beaston for her 1/2 marathon walk in San Antonio (I hope it was COLD - heh heh) in the name of 'Strider for Hope'.  She is still in need of some fund-raising assistance, so check out www.wellnessdelaware.org to navigate to her fund-raising site.

The 2009 version of the MAC Pub Crawl will take place on January 17, 2009, beginning at 12noon.  It's approximately 4.35 miles and will wind it's way from KD's Tavern on Broad Street to the North Star.  Including KD's, there are seven 'refreshment' stops on the route this year.  The post-crawl bash will take place at Bogies.  The event is free to club members and $10 to non-members (again, just join the club!).  We MAY have Bogies cater the din din, which will also have a smallish fee associated with it for everyone.  T-shirt orders will be accepted through Dec. 20 and payment is due in advance this year (I still owe the shirt lady money from last year!).  The press release will be coming shortly with details.  Oh, and don't fret, the Icicle run is the Sunday BEFORE the Pub Crawl... you'll have six days to recover.

Good luck to Philly Marathoners and 8kers this weekend...gonna be below normal temps but doesn't appear that it will be THIS cold come Sunday.  One of our new members Chris Aitkens is running Disney in January.  The long range forecast is for temps in the 20's and tinkerbell to be fully clothed... sorry dude.

Hope to see you all on the roads, tracks and trails!  Sooooo, how far did YOU run today?

2008 MAC Punks vs Geezers XC 5K Challenge - Race Results

Attached are the results from yesterday... thank you for coming out and supporting the local foliage and area nursing homes.  There was a loud cheer this morning when the news hit, shortly after the meds were dispersed.  Maternity wards everywhere have been asked to create genetic mutated running babies to challenge the supremacy of the Geezers.

See you all on the roads, tracks and TRAILS!

MAC eNotes

Subject: MAC eNotes, 11-12

Run fast, take chances!  We'll be meeting up this Saturday at 0800 (back to the regular time) for our weekly club run at Silver Lake Elementary Schule.  We had a nice turnout last week and look forward to meeting up with more of you.

Afterwards, we'll be venturing up to the Sunrise Bagel for a new nibblin's and talk about the 2009 version of the MAC Pub Crawl.  Bring some ideas and potential watering holes that you'd like to see make the final cut.  We have about 9 weeks until the 4th annual version of this crooked parade.  If you're not running with the group, carbo & caffeine replenishment will be around 9:15am.

Don't forget Sunday's MAC xc Challenge event at Lum's Pond, Area 1.  Race time is 2pm and set-up/registration starts around 1pm or whenever I mosey on in.  The available bathrooms are in areas 2 & 5, NOT area 1.  I'll try and finagle something but don't count on it.  This is a LOW-FRILLS event... no cost to current club members and $5 to non-members.  I'm thinking about handing out cans of soup to the top 6... really.  If the weather is decent, plan on hanging out afterwards and mingling.

Attached is a flyer I received from Denise Beaston, who is walking in one of the cancer awareness events in (is it ?  I've forgotten... sorry).  Anyway, she's looking for some fundraising assistance.

check - who's running Philly?  I know of a couple of you who are entered.  There's also a marathon and mx relay in Rehoboth on 11/22.  Check out www.seashorestriders.com for details.

Today's paper is carrying some potentially not-so-good news for UD running fans.  Here's the link to the story: http://www.delawareonline.com/article/20081112/SPORTS11/311120002/1032

Title IX has outlived its usefullness.  Ridiculous...

Hope to see you on the roads, tracks & trails (and continue to see UD runners there as well)... sooooooo, how far did YOU run today?
