We’ve been kind of neglecting our Dive Journal entries over the last year.  The last posting was after our trip to Roatan in Oct 2010.  A lot has happened since then.  In April 2011, we spent a week at Norfork Lake in Arkansas.  We were attempting to catch the perfect viz for the lake.  We were almost successful.  We towed our dive boat, The Muck Diver, down and Denise at Jordan’s Marina gave us an awesome deal on a slip for the week.  Water temps were fairly cool; so the Diva Divers (wives) didn’t really care too much for the temps.  The week started off fairly good, but the rains hit and hit and hit raising the lake over 30 feet to flood stage.  Jordan Marina was busy trying to keep the Marina going.  The rains pretty much killed all the viz with a mud-line quickly consuming the lake. 

 

Due to all the rains in spring 2011, pretty much diving in the Midwest was shot.  We attempted several trips to Table Rock and several quarries, but the viz just simply was not even worth the time.

 

In early October 2011, we did mange to sneak away on a Houseboat Trip at Bull Shoals.  We hadn’t done this trip in a couple years and it was great to get back to the Houseboat and relax for the weekend.  The diving was hit and miss.  Some areas good and others mucked out.  But, the air temps were perfect and if nothing else we enjoyed a relaxing weekend on the lake with family.

 

In December 2011, we made our first trip to Curacao.  We stayed at Breezes resort that was awesome.  Our rooms were right on the beach and they provided a lot of activities.  Ocean Encounters has a small shop on the resort and we were able to get several very nice ocean dives off the beach.  We attempted to explore the island and do shore diving, but this didn’t turn out as we thought.  Simply put, we had a hard time finding shore diving and ultimately figured out most of the better diving was on the other end of the island.  We rented a truck, but travel time really cut into our dive opportunities.  Gives us a good reason to return someday.

 

As 2012 came in, the Midwest has been experiencing a very warm winter; unlike, the previous winter of 2011 with all the snow and cold temps.  Unfortunately, we have been very busy with our daily lives and making money for our next paradise dive trip and haven’t had time to dive much this winter.  Spring will soon be here and again the start of another dive season.  What’s the plans?  We are really hoping that the rains stay away this spring so we can get back to enjoying some Midwest Diving.  We want to return to Norfork and hopefully finally catch the perfect viz.  We are thinking maybe early May.  The Muck Diver is docked down on Table Rock and hopefully we can get back to some diving there.  We really want to dive the Zebulan Pike (General) again.  The Corps is building a new visitors center at Dewey and current information is that they will not be allowing shore diving there anymore….boooooo.  We are kicking around the idea of moving the Muck Diver from Table Rock.  The lake is simply too crazy anymore with all the big boats.  We really need to think through moving the Muck Diver to another lake if they are not allowing any more shore diving at Dewey.  On top of all that, they raised the price on our slip over $100 this year and we are trying to decide if it is all worth it anymore.  Too many decisions….all we want to do is blow some bubbles.

We just returned from our first trip to Roatan.  We stayed at Fantasy Island and yes it was a little rundown, but regardless we had an awesome time.  We met some great people and had a nice relaxing week.  As far as diving, some great walls and many Lion Fish.  Roatan definately has an issue with the Lion Fish.  We dove Mary's Place and Calvins Crack along with many others.  These were great dives.  The night dive was simply amazing with many crab, lobsters, octopus, and even a puffer fish.  We are working hard to get pictures and video edited and put up.  Bare with us.

 

Well, we recently got back from Bonaire.  This was our 2nd trip and once again absolutely wonderful.  This year we stayed at Don Laman.  Great condo overlooking Bari Reef.  Couldn't have asked for anything more.  Check out our pictures and videos of our trip.
