Fundamentals
This is a dog, who one week ago, would have high tailed it out of the room at the sight of a stranger.
Keep this in mind.
We did teach Chen Chen the "sit/stay", and a "down/stay".
In this picture a stranger is invited into the house and Chen must give us the "sit/stay". She chose the "down/stay", which is excellent.
It is important to note that Chen Chen has no recall yet. I have come to understand that these feral dogs have gross psychological issues with a recall. It is as if approaching a human is signing a death warrant ( maybe it is we don't know), but for this sesson, we have left out the re-call entirely as it generates far too much stress in the dog.
NB - The person in the picture is bending down to pick up Chen Chen's long line so that she can be transititioned into a "heel".

Chen Chen allows the stranger to approach and touch her under the "wait" command.
The "Wait" command: The dog is taught to become completely immobile, and to expect the handler to walk up to them, and touch their drop line. ( directly under their chin). Once the drop line is touched by the handler, the handler offers the "thumbs up", then walks away.

Chen Chen is asked to heel to the other end of the room.
It is important to understand that Chen Chen has never met this person before and is executing her schooling, so, at this point we are happy with her achievements. Notice how the other dog is also "heeling" and following the handler.
We opted to leave all the dogs free so that Chen Chen would have to work around an audience.

Chen Chen is "heeled", ( meaning walked on a leash), back to the fireplace and asked to "wait", not the same as "stay". Our handler is making herself much larger by quietly splaying her arms and hands open.
"Wait", is our desired command for a dog who is moving, to achieve immobility, whereas, "stay" , is our command for a dog that has already achieved immobility.
We insist that Chen Chen "wait" while standing, as standing offers more ease for the dog to achieve flight.
As you can see, both dogs "wait".

The handler then touches the drop line, and releases Chen Chen from the exercise by giveing her the "thumbs up" and walking away.

We practice this several times in the house before going outside.

Again, the stanger grasps the d rop line under Chen Chen's neck, gives the "thumbs up", and walks away.

Chen Chen is still considering "flight" at given moments, like at the sound of a loud noise, ( which we created in this picture). She did try to "fly" and the handler stepped on her lead line to reinforce the "wait" command. Once the lead line is stepped on , the dog has to stop all movement.

Despite her not being too confident, Chen Chen does allow the stranger to approach her to grasp the dropline under her neck.

We take the entire exercise outside into a wider area.
Chen Chen is asked to "wait" and random intervals.
She must stop all movement, wait for the handler to walk up to her, and wait for the handler to grasp the drop line under her chin.

We purposely allow Chen Chen to interact with the other dogs and forget that we are present.

We then replicate outdoors, what we were doing indoors and start to "heel" around the back yard.
At random intervals, we let go the lead, let if fall to the ground and allow Chen Chen to wander. We wil all of a sudden as her to, "wait", ( so that she freezes in her tracks), and she allows us to approach her, grasp the drop line under her chin, then walk away.

Both Chen Chen and the other chow are asked to "wait".
and they do. The handler was able to walk up to Chen Chen outside and grasp her drop line.
The splayed arms with opened hands are their deterrent to move forward. It makes us instantly longer, larger and bigger and dogs usually respect that we might even be able to become bigger so generally choose to stay in front of the splayed hands.
We are very pleased with the results and stop our lesson here.

Right across the street from the motel the
Passumpsic River twists and winds it's way from Connecticut through Northern Vermont.
This river has an incredible strong current, is crystal clear and features beautiful river rock.The river arises in two branches, one east, the other west. The eastern branch begins just north of East Haven. It flows southwest through Hartwellville, East Haven; then into East Burke.
The western branch starts as several small forks near Crystal Lake, northeast of Sutton. The Montreal, Maine and Atlantic Railway lines follows the western branch of the Passumpsic until it converges with the eastern branch in Lyndonville.
From Lyndon, the river proceeds southerly through St. Johnsbury Center (village) in the town of St. Johnsbury; St. Johnsbury, Passumpsic Village in the town of Barnet; Barnet, and into the Connecticut River near Nine Island.

Munchkin wanted to do some off-roading into the mountains. We also were determined that Vikki should sleep in a little.
We took of "UP" onto some pretty steep inclines and declines for about an hour and a half. It was a wonderful experience. Absolutely gorgeous scenery everywhere, and no matter how remote the area, there are always people living in the mountains.

We were miffed that no sign was posted to indicate a nesting loon. The last thing we wanted to do was to bother the Mom sitting on her precious eggs. She hissed at us, and the moment we discovered she was there, tried our very best to clear the area without too much kaffufale. We absolutely tried our best to not disturb her.

The sound of rushing water was remarkable.
Littleton is a town in Grafton County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 5,845 at the 2000 census. Situated at the edge of the White Mountains, Littleton is bounded on the northwest by the Connecticut River.
The primary settlement in town, where over 75% of the population resides, is defined as the Littleton census-designated place (CDP), and is centered around the intersection of U.S. Route 302 with New Hampshire Route 116, along the Ammonoosuc River.
