2009 Year End Message to Membership

MIRC FALL 2009

FALL FIELD TRIAL

A special thanks goes to Jon Zunkel and Ron Ainley for co-chairing our fall trial and to Judy Juhl for stepping up to be the trial secretary.  A great deal of preparation was completed on the Thursday prior to the trial starting Friday morning…gun stations were in the field, holding blinds up, tests all set and ready to go for a test dog at 8:00 am…but then…FOG…and a lot of it settled in over Chichaqua that delayed the start of the trial to 10:30 am.  Even with the late start the trial went very well with some super dog work.   Kudo’s to everyone who volunteered to help out at the trial by gunning, throwing birds, marshaling, chairing stakes and all the other duties that are required for a well run event.

Beth Harman has formatted a great new website for the club that will become the source for club news and updates as we move forward.  It has board and officer contact information, event results, photos, forms, membership roster and much more.  Make it one of your favorites and check in often for updates.  You will get an email when something new has been posted as well.  Go to: http://mirc.shutterfly.com/

BOARD AND OFFICERS

It is time to begin planning to appoint a new board of directors and officers for 2010.  Tony Despenas has indicated he will continue as our president and Dave Hoke will continue to serve as club secretary.  Beth will continue to help keep the website up to speed and kick out emails to membership when something new has been added.

We will need to nominate two board positions…a vice-president and a new club treasurer.  In addition we need to confirm three club officers.  We will address this at the January club trial prior to running dogs that morning on Sunday, January 24.  If you would like to volunteer and/or nominate someone, please contact Tony or Dave so we can begin formalizing this process for the January club trial.

The new treasurer position will need filled by early December in order to begin managing membership dues for next year and to make a transition with all our financial information and banking details.  Treasurer address and contact information is on our membership renewal form, hence the need to get out in front of that.

2010 CLUB TRIALS

The dates for our club trials are posted on the club website.  Our current board and officers will host the January club trial.  We will need others to step up to chair and host the club trials scheduled for February, March and April.  Please contact Tony Despenas if you and/or others would be interested in helping with the remaining club trials.  Again, his contact information is on our club website.  A reminder that only club members are eligible for our annual club trial dogs and hunt test award plaque winners.

2010 LICENSED EVENTS

The dates for our licensed events are also posted on the site for you to plan on.  For our Spring Field Trial, our chair will be Tony Despenas with Dave Hoke as trial secretary.  We will work on filling in other roles such as gun captain, stake chairs, marshals and others next spring.

We need a new chair for our hunt test in June.  Craig Arians has served in that role for several years now and has done an amazing job, thanks very much Craig!  Also a special thanks to Jim Meyer for being the event secretary for several years now also!  Anyone that is interested in stepping up to help manage the hunt test in June should let Tony know prior to the January club trial so we can announce it and begin formalizing the event with AKC and online entry services.

Just like the hunt test, we will need a chair or co-chairs for the fall field trial.  Judy Juhl will be our trial secretary for the event, so thanks very much Judy!  Members who are interested in chairing the trial should let Tony know prior to the January club trial as well so we can announce it too…along with formalizing the event with AKC and online entry services.

Membership, please understand that if we do not have club members step up to fill the event chair positions that are open, we will have to cancel the event…a quick summary…a chair is needed for the three club trials (February-April), the June hunt test and the fall field trial.

At this time, the long house at Chichaqua has been reserved for all our club events for 2010.

MEMBERSHIP DUES

A new/2010 membership renewal form will be posted on the site after we fill the role of treasurer for next year.  Forms like this are posted as a PDF for easy use to download and print.  At this time, we hope to post that by early December.

MOVING FORWARD

Looking ahead, we’ll be using our new club website as our primary tool in communicating with club membership.  As club members, please offer your ideas and feedback to any board member or officer via their email contacts on the site.  As with any volunteer organization, much of its success is dependent on its members stepping up to fill important leadership roles.  Please consider doing so as we look forward to 2010 and beyond.
