Hello! My name is Amanda Biggs, and I will be your child's Title I Teacher this year! I am a 2008 graduate of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where I earned my degree in Elementary Education and minored in English. I am returning to SIUE in the Fall to begin my graduate coursework for a masters degree in Literacy Education and I am excited about all the new ideas that it will bring into our classroom! It has always been my dream to work with students to improve phonemic awareness, reading fluency, reading comprehension, letter naming and letter sounds! I just know we are all going to have a wonderful year ahead of us!
I feel that parent-teacher communication is vital to your child's success, and so I will communicate daily and weekly with you through handouts, emails, phone calls, parent-teacher conferences, report cards and notes. Please feel free to contact me throughout the year through emails, or notes. I can be reached anytime by email at abiggs@kahoks.org Email is the fastest and easiest way to communicate with me, but I am happy to resond to any and all communication!
School begins each day at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m. at Webster Elementary. School begins each day at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 2:45 p.m. at Jefferson Elementary. It is very important that your child be on time and in attendance at school, as both play a vital role in the success of your child's academics. A great deal of what we do throughout our time together is done in groups and can not be made up at home. Please value your child's attendance as a priority and ensure that your child attends school regularly and on time.
I look forward to working with your child on all of the wonderful lessons that I have planned! We are going to have a fun filled year of learning new strategies, having fun and meeting new friends! Please be sure to check out our website frequently so that you can see all the amazing things we do!
TODAY IS A GREAT DAY TO LEARN SOMETHING NEW!

This year we will work on mastering several lists of "STAR Words." Students must be able to spell, write and use these words in a sentence before they can move onto the next list of words. (You will find the lists of STAR Words at the top of this page. Several lists will be added later as the students progress).
