Since this website is new to all of us, I want to briefly explain some of the key features:
- On the right hand side of the screen you will see a section entitled "Links to Useful Sites & Articles." Here I have included a link to the Study Island webpage. In case you are unaware, Study Island is a great resource for preparing our students for the state standardized tests and it is accessible to students from school or home, as long as you have Internet access. Once you click on the link, you can log-in to the website by entering a user name and password. Your child's user name is: FirstLast@CVCS (the first letter of your child's first and last name must be capitalized) and the password is: abc123. Your child will be somewhat familiar with the site, as we go to the computer lab weekly to utilize it. You can choose various topics for your child to work on, from either the mathematics or ELA content area.
- Further, I have included a link to the Scholastic Book Clubs webpage. You can always order from Scholastic by sending your book orders in to me, or you can order by using our class code on the Scholastic website. Remember, if you order online our class receives a coupon for a free book! Thank you again to those of you who have already taken advantage of this wonderful offer.
- Also, I have provided links to articles that will provide you with great ideas for enhancing reading and writing instruction at home.
Below that, you will see the "Reading Tip of the Day Widget." Reading, and a love for reading, begins at home. These daily reading tips offer easy ways for you to help your child become a successful reader.
You will also see a section entitled "Files." I have uploaded documents that I have created detailing comprehension strategies and decoding (sounding out) strategies that you can use with your child at home.
