The Miss Garner Family
Chelsea Ingram, Miss Garner 2009, has recently been awarded the President's Volunteer Service Award!
America has a long and proud tradition of volunteer service. Now more than ever, volunteers are renewing their commitment to helping others and making new connections that bring us closer together as families, as neighbors, as communities, and as a Nation.
The President's Council on Service and Civic Participation created the President's Volunteer Service Award program as a way to thank and honor Americans who, by their demonstrated commitment and example, inspire others to engage in volunteer service.
Recognizing and honoring volunteers sets a standard for service to others. It encourages a sustained commitment to civic participation and inspires others to make volunteering a central part of their lives. The President's Volunteer Service Award recognizes individuals, families, and groups that have achieved a certain standard – measured by the number of hours served over a 12-month period or cumulative hours earned over the course of a lifetime. Chelsea is proud to be counted among the American volunteers to be recongized by the President of the United States!

My favorite Miss America of all time. I was honored to meet her! This is why...Ironically, she almost didn't make it to Atlantic City. A short time before the competition, her father passed away. And she felt as though " . . . the whole world had dropped out from under me." But her mother reminded her of the lost scholarships, her father's personal excitement over the pageant and his eagerness for her participation. The rest is history. There are so many women that forgo treatment and die because they are unable to pay for the average $65,000 treatment costs. This organization is different from Komen which is research oriented towards finding a cure. Maddy also has participated and raised money for the Komen Race for a Cure for the last five years. She hopes to travel the state with Miss Garner promoting the Pretty in Pink Foundation.

My favorite Miss America of all time. I was honored to meet her! This is why...Ironically; she almost didn't make it to the national pageant. A short time before the competition, her father passed away. And she felt as though “the whole world had dropped out from under me." But her mother reminded her of the lost scholarships, her father's personal excitement over the pageant and his eagerness for her participation. The rest is history. In 1955, when she won, the infamous Bert Parks made his debut on the Miss America Stage and she was the first Miss America to hear the song, "There She Is," by Mr. Parks! "What a moment that was,"she told me. "At the time I didn't realize the significance of that special moment."
