North Carolina local pageants are preliminaries to the Miss North Carolina Pageant. The winner in June will move on to compete in the Miss Ameica Pageant in January of 2010.
The Miss America Organization is one of the nation's leading achievement programs and the world's largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women. Last year, the Miss America Organization and its state and local organizations made available more than $45 million in cash and scholarship assistance.
This assistance is not just for the handful of young women who become Miss America, but is available to the over 12,000 young women who compete in the state and local competitions just like ours in NC as well.
Rich in history and social significance, the Miss America Organization is a not-for-profit organization that has maintained a tradition for many decades of empowering young women to achieve their personal and professional goals, while providing a forum in which to express their opinions, talent and intelligence. Scholarships have been the cornerstone of the Miss America program since 1945 when Bess Myerson was the first Miss America to receive a scholarship from the Organization.
Participating in the Miss America system not only helps you pay for college and prepare for a career, it also provides an opportunity to gain additional life experience, working on issues of importance to society, enhancing your personal and professional skills and developing your performance-related and other talents.

I had the honor of attending the Miss America Pageant this year to support my friend Amanda Watson. I was filled with delight, sitting in the audience seeing her on the Miss America stage, watching her dreams fulfilled. My eyes filled with tears of joy when she stepped to the microphone, center stage, proudly announcing our state! Amanda has been an incredible representative of our great state. We are fortunate to have had her represent us. Her accomplishments are many and our gratitude towards her colossal! I am proud to be her local predecessor and the 50th Miss Garner and I only hope I can serve the Garner community and perform as well on the Miss NC stage as Amanda did. I am honored she is my friend! God Bless you Miss Garner 2008 and Miss North Carolina 2009!
Can you believe two former Miss Garners on the Miss America stage the same year? I am extremely proud to be among this distinct group of women. Kendria and Amanda both gave me chills as I watched them on the Miss America stage! I am both humbled and honored to hold the same title as these phenomenal women!
