Hunting the Muse

Do Muses exist? A lot of artists swear by them. And swear at them. I'm fairly certain you can't photography one directly; it's the kind of thing you glimpse out of the corner of your eye. Or admire their handiwork. At any rate, I'm on assignment to capture them through the art they inspire, and the artists who are in a committed love-hate relationship with them. Join me if you will!  We debut with the amazing art of John Murdoch.

Shooting John

John is a painter, educator, spiritual warrior and all-around great guy. He's studied the masters and their medium of choice - oils, which helps to explain why his art evokes the richness and luminous quality of the classics. Something more evolved is revealed when the muse calls on John, though. His canvas becomes a window for seeing images in a pure, inspired light, whether a gathering of peaches, a woman in reflection, or an angel frolicking in a meadow. Someday he'll be hanging in the Met instead of with me and my camera, but you can say you knew him when.
