In an effort to remember the 1,500,000 children who perished int the Holocaust, the Holocaust Museum Houston is collecting 1.5 million handmade butterflies.
The butterflies will eventually comprise a breath-taking exhibition, currently scheduled for Spring 2013, for all to remember. The Museum has already collected an estimated 400,000 butterflies.
Monarch NAHS members are used to putting their creativity to work for the good of service. Now, the Monarch NAHS has been busy making butterflies. These butterflies are not just a pretty art project, however. These butterflies, each with an original design made by members, are going to be donated to the Believe in Tomorrow Children's Foundation. Believe in Tomorrow is an organization that provides exceptional hospital and respite housing services to critically ill children and their families.
This organization is in the midst of creating a new house at Pinnacle Falls, which will be their second respite property created to prioritize military families with critically ill children. The butterflies NAHS is making will be donated to the Pinnacle Falls home to be put in their healing garden.
In addition to these butterflies, Monarch NAHS will also be selling miniature butterflies to collect funds for Believe in Tomorrow. Our club is already spreading the word by creating a website and connecting to other art teachers in the county, state and nation in an effort to have them join in the project.
