Bazaar Week is here!
The last week before the Bazaar should be a MSS holiday. There is so much to do! Students are busy getting ready for the Bazaar by raking leaves, making baked goodies, moving Trash and Treasure items, and so much more! It's a fun time at MSS.
Make sure to stop by and visit the MSS Garden. It's really impressive what the kids have accomplished, especially when you remember where they started. It has grown immensely! Our lettuce and broccoli have been harvested, and we plan on ending this school year with radishes, beets, and cucumbers.
Check out the pictures from Cuisiniers last visit...the kids showed extreme patience as they waited for everyone to dip a strawberry before eating. It was a tough job, but the students were troopers! They were rewarded for their hard work with smoothies (super yummy!!)
Update
Things have been very hectic at Morning Star. We have been preparing for both the Fashion Show and the Spring Bazaar. The Fashion Show was held on 3/10/2011, and was a huge success! The Spring Bazaar is 4 weeks from today. There is so much work to still do!! Keep checking in for our progress.
Also, MSS now has a Facebook page. Check that for more updates!
Busy Times!
We have been so busy at Morning Star! We've been working so hard in our garden! We've had some ups and downs, but thanks to our 'gardening angels' (including Apenberry's Gardens!) our garden is complete....at least until harvest time!!!
February is also known as the month of love, and Valentine's Day is a major event! Check out the pics from the Valentine's Day Dance. Rooms 1 & 2 sure can boogey!!
Finally, Chef Jamie & Miss Tracy came for a visit and we made Ratatouille. We were impressed with how much the students LOVED it!! They are really becoming vegetable fans!! Yeah veggies!!
Happy 2011!
We are two weeks into the new year, and we have been BUSY! We have been building a new garden behind the Big Room. We used the bricks from the old playground, and we have made a beautiful raised garden bed! The Room One Boys used special brick glue to make the bricks stick together. We just need to fill it with dirt, and we'll start planting! We have big plans for the new garden!!
The Holidays are Upon Us!
December is an exciting time at Morning Star! Between 'special visitors', Christmas Play preparations, and the Elves Shoppe, we are kept very busy. We continue to work everyday in our garden. We love our garden! We are cleaning up the fall crops, and getting things ready for spring planting.
Keep checking in for pictures. This week (12/6-12/10) is a very busy week...we'll update pictures as soon as possible.
Busy Few Weeks!
It has been a busy few weeks! We harvested lettuce (yum!), made no-bake pumpkin cheesecake with Chef Jamie, met lots of interesting people at Reading with the Angels Day, and visited the Festival of Trees. We've uploaded pictures to most of these events. Keep checking in with the site for more adventures from Rooms 1 & 2!
Our Backyard Video
Check out our new video, "Our Backyard". It describes and shows all the fun we are having working in our garden.
Videos
We've updated some more videos to the site. One video, My Own Two Hands, is one we made last year. The other one, God's Shining Stars, was made this year in the Specials Class Miss Kim & Miss Kary teach, Educational Video Production. Look for us to update those famous Southwest Airline videos soon!!
Miss Angela Visits
Our Community Helper, Miss Angela, stopped by on Wednesday. Everyone was so excited to see her. We made some garden boxes that can be wheeled inside and outside on a daily basis because some of our plants were getting eaten by our fellow neighbors, the squirrels. We took storage totes and drilled holes in the bottom for drainage. Then we filled the bottom of each storage tote with recyclable materials like plastic bottles. Each student took a turn filling up the container with soil and then we planted some yummy lettuce! It was so much fun! Miss Angela even brought everyone juiceboxes to reward their hard work.

Nugget & Sassy Arrive!
Two of our little chicks, Nugget and Sassy, arrived Thursday afterschool. They spent all day Friday with us. We had the best time watching and taking care of them! We even threw them a birthday party. We had cake, ice cream, and did the chicken dance. It was the best! At the end of the day, we took them to Palmer's Feed Store. Our old friend Zach Palmer's Uncle Jeff is going to take good care of them. We couldn't keep them at school because they were way too noisy!!! They were fun visitors for the day, though!
Chef Jamie's Visit
Chef Jamie and his assistant, Miss Tracy, came on Tuesday. We had the best time. We learned how to properly wash our hands (you have to scrub while singing the ABC song!), heard a story about apple and its seeds (they are shaped like a star!), tasted apple slices, and made the BEST applesauce EVER! We had a great visit! We can't wait to see them again!
MSS Gardens
The Morning Star Gardens are sprouting. We currently have tomatoes, strawberries, sweet peppers, carrots, cauliflower, pumpkins, beets, and lima beans planting. We can't wait to pick our fruits and vegetables!
