School is moving along swifly

It's hard to believe that we are almost in the second quarter of the school year already!  Friday, October 14th is the last day of the first quarter.  Report cards will be sent home with your child on the 21st.  Please read the report card and its contents carefully.  Sign the back and return to school the following week.  Thanks!

No School Columbus Day

There will be no school Monday, October 10th in observance of Columbus Day.

Parent Teacher Conferences Approaching

Parent Teacher Conferences will be Thursday and Friday October 27th and 28th.  Please return the signed confirmation form as soon as you find it in your child's red folder.  I am looking very forward to meeting with each of you.

Check out the "First Grade Reading Strategies" tab at the top of this page.

Please read the strategies provided and try to incorporate them into homework time.  Yes

Book in a Bag is a success

Our students are doing great with the books in a bag.  Students are responsible for changing his or her book each day and remembering to take it home nightly.  Thanks to the many parents who read it with their child and then sign the paperwork in the bag.  Research shows that students who practice reading daily become more proficient readers as they grow older.

Your child will be able to play Raz-Kids and Everyday math online games at home.

The login instructions for Raz-Kids and Everyday math online will be in your child's red folder.  Your child has access to a wonderful world of books through www.raz-kids.com because our district has subscribed to the online library of exciting reading materials.  Raz-Kids helps students improve their reading skills as they listen to a book read for modeled fluency.  Then, if the computer has a built-in record function, they can record themselves reading the same book.  Or, students can read the book to themselves or aloud for practice.  Interactive quizzes are available at the end of each book to check for understanding.  REMEMBER, THE MORE YOUR CHILD READS, THE BETTER READER HE OR SHE WILL BECOME!   Everyday Math online will enable your child to play computer versions of the math games we learn in class.

Counting by 1's, 2's, 5's, and 10's.

As we go through our school year, we keep track of the number of days of school.  We count by 1's to the current number of days and often from the current number of days back to zero.  As we hit the "5's" (5, 10, 15, etc.) and the 10's (10, 20, 30, etc.) we count by 2's, 5's and 10's.  It would be awesome if you could do the same thing at home.  Keep track of the number of school days on your home calendar.  Happy counting!  Note:  October 7th is the 39th day of school.

About your teacher - Mr. Eberhart

Hello!

My name is Mr. Eberhart.  I graduated from Granite City North High School and went on to SIUE to earn my Bachelor's and Master's in Speech Pathology.  I worked as a speech-language pathologist at a private school in Wood River for eight years.  I decided to teach in the public schools in 1996 when a classroom began in Collinsville Unit 10 for students with speech and language challenges.  I taught that classroom at Webster from 1996 - 2009.  In Spring, 2008, I decided to return to SIUE to pursue a subsequent certificate in elementary education.

Lunch with Mr. Eberhart Tuesdays

Each Tuesday, students who have shown responsibility and respect are rewarded by getting to eat lunch with Mr. Eberhart either in the classroom or outside in our beautiful courtyard.  Student must have turned in all homework and remained on green the previous five days.
