2012
It's good to be back for 2012. After a 2 week break it's a good for the kids to get back to their exercise routines. We had a great first semester. The students learned to play ultimate frisbee, flag football and volleyball. Overall, it was a very productive first semester as the kids fitness levels increased dramatically. I saw mile times drop and the 8th graders really improved their strength in the weight room. This next semester will be heavily based on continuing to improve their fitness levels. We are spending the first unit learning about muscles, bones, fitness components, etc and working out 3-4 times per week. The rest of our year will include Lacrosse for 8th graders, Tinikling for 6th graders, Tumbling and soccer for both. Looking forward to it!
First Unit of 2011
The first unit for 6th and 8th graders has come and gone. Both grade levels covered Ultimate Frisbee. 6th graders focused on basic skill development with some introduction to games while the 8th graders were entrenched in games/strategy/teambuilding. The students did a great job grasping the idea of both the unit and the expectations of the class. I feel like it has given us a solid base to move forward and do some great things this year. Our next unit is flag football, I'll post updates in a few weeks.
Welcome to 2011-2012 School Year
I am so excited for the new school year and getting to know all of the new students this year. We have some great things planned and will be sharing lots of pictures and updates on this website this year. Please feel free to sign the guestbook or email me with any questions or concerns you might have.
Spring Break
Yes, we all made it to spring break! It was a long haul and the kids did a great job sticking with their studies, completing their STAR testing and keeping up with their 8th grade portfolio work. It's hard to believe, but after break there are only 6 weeks left of the school year. We will be finishing up with soccer in both 6th and 8th grade. I encourage everyone to come to Open House and see the slideshow I have put together that documents our year in P.E.
Feel free to comment or email me any questions or comments!

We are currently in the middle of our health and fitness units for both 6th and 8th grade. This gives the 6th graders a foundation for what they will be learning in our middle school program, and acts as the culmination of the 8th graders path through the program. This unit contains what most students find to be the most challenging tests along with several key projects. The projects in this unit are the basis for what they can use in their 8th grade portfolios.
I love to see how quickly the students pick up on these concepts and appreciate how hard they work on the material. Hopefully they are all learning how important it is to live a healthy lifestyle now and into their adult lives.
December 1st, 2010
The first semester is rapidly coming to an end. We will be having a comprehensive final over the 3 units we covered (ultimate frisbee, flag football and volleyball). I will be discussing the final and giving out a study guide in the next week.
The volleyball unit is going great and the kids are starting to play games. The bumps, sets and serves look better and better each day. Check back soon for more photos from this unit.

The year is flying by. The students have finished two units already and we are now beginning volleyball. Ultimate Frisbee and flag football were a success (see albums). I am always amazed at how much the students improve their skill and fitness levels over the course of a few weeks every time we start a new unit!

The video is being produced into a season-long documentary of the class. I can try to get some footage but I probably won't have much on here until the end of the year.
