Mr. Moore's Junior High Math - mrmooresjuniorhighmath

Q & A

I received a 4 on my homework assignment. What must I do to receive full credit?
Homework is graded using a 6 point rubric.  This rubric can be found by clicking on the calendar and forms tab at the top of this page.
What should I do if I am struggling in math?

There are lots of options, but the most important thing is to ask for help immediately!

You can:

1.) Ask Mr. Moore for help during class, study hall, and morning recess

2.) Ask a classmate, parent, or relative for help

3.) Click on one of the useful links on this webpage (i.e. study island, your homeroom teacher should have your login information)

I am struggling on my tests, can I do anything to raise my test grade?

There are 3 ways you can improve your test scores:

1.) Use the practice tests you are given to make handwritten notes.  One index card of notes is allowed to be used on tests.

2.) Take advantage of any extra credit questions.

For example:

x + 7 = 10, answer: x = 3 extra credit answer: x is an addend

3.) Do test corrections!!!  Students who earn a grade lower than a "C" have the opportunity to do test corrections for half credit.  In order to receive credit, the test must be signed by a parent and all work should be stapled to the original test.

Daily Homework Assignments

Study Island weekly assignments: 6-8 due Fridays

www.studyisland.com - is an ISAT prep website that allows me to better assess each individual student's strengths and weaknesses.  Study island counts as 10% of my student's grades.

Each week 2 lessons are assigned to my students.  Since study island is a participation grade, all they have to do in order to earn full credit it either a.) earn a blue ribbon or b.) complete 30 questions from each lesson.

WRAP: 7th and 8th grade

Working 'Round A Problem is a weekly assignment intended to not only challenge my student's math skills, but to improve there problem solving skills and communication.  WRAP questions along with practice tests account for 10% of my student's grades.

Each week students are given 2 scenarios to solve. These scenarios cover topics such as numbers and operations, algebra, measurement, geometry, and statistics. Students are allowed to use any method to solve the scenarios, but they must also include all written work and a written explanation of what they did and why they did it. Explanations should be clear, concise, and easy to read.

WRAP questions are due each Friday and are graded using a 24 point rubric. The rubric will be available shortly under the calendar and forms tab.
