Welcome to second grade. Second grade is a big growing year for your child. Through the year your child will gain more independence in the classroom, become more responsible for his/her work, and become a dutiful young student. I enjoy seeing the tremendous growth each child has in second grade!
Also throughout the year, if you have any questions and/or concerns, please contact me. I am hoping that we can work together to make second grade a great experience for your child. Hopefully the website will become a good source for you so you can stay informed throughout the busy year!
Thank you so much,
Mrs. Paula Desrosiers
Handwriting is very important. All students should strive for the neatest handwriting every day in their daily work. I expect all work to be completed in that student's neatest handwriting. In November, we will start learning cursive handwriting. This is always exciting!! We will learn one letter a day. I urge you to practice the letters taught, and not to practice letters we have not learned yet. It is extremely difficult to correct a misformation of a letter. Thank you for your support!

Having a sharpened pencil and a good eraser is a very important part of being a responsible student. This year I am starting a new pencil program with my second grade. Each student will be given a pencil pouch with his/her name on it, 8 sharpened pencils, and an eraser. Students are responsible for all 8 pencils and the 1 eraser for the whole week. Pencil pouches will be collected once a week and sharpened and returned. If a pencil needs replacing, it will be replaced with a brand new sharpened pencil. As each pencil pouch is checked for the 8 pencils and 1 eraser, the student will earn a small reward if all is in the pouch. A small reward may be a sticker, a pencil top eraser, a fancy eraser, a pencil topper...etc. This will motivate students to take care of their pencil pouches and be responsible. This pencil program will enable all students to have the sharpened pencils and erasers they need, and not have to search for a pencil or need one sharpened in the middle of class. Students may still have special pencils of their own in their desks, but they are responsible to sharpen them with their own sharpener. This small sharpener is to be kept in their own pencil box that they brought from home.
