This is a great site to review letters/sounds and for beginning reading!

It seems our year is flying by so quickly! Here it is~already the first of February! The first graders are growing in leaps and bounds! Reading, writing, and math fill our day. Our theme units add interest to our reading and writing. The students are excited about all the things they are learning. Upcoming this month will be units on Presidents, Dental Health, Valentine's Day, and the 100th Day of School~ lots of exciting activities to explore and learn about! We are in the process of responding to our Flying Art exchange participants in South Africa. We will be responding to our Moroccan exchange participants by the beginning of March. For our e-pals in the Solomon Islands, we are in the process of having each student type 4 sentences in a comment under their picture. We would like one of Miss Louisah's students write a comment back under the same picture. That way, each student in our class will have a corresponding student to write to in Miss Louisah's class. We are excited to see how this works!

  This summer I took a trip to the Solomon Islands to help teachers and to develop some classroom connections through a program called World Class. We took supplies to Nelly and her students at the Three Swallows School, the one my classes and I have been helping for three years. My husband, Charlie, helped make repairs to the school, also. We met many wonderful people~ adults and children. It was an exciting adventure!

   If you look in the pictures section you will see some of the schools and the students. We were at three schools. We were helping at Three Swallows School in the village of Nusabaruka on the island of Gizo; setting up websites and making connections at Patukae Community on Vanganu Islan. Both of these schools are in the Solomon Islands. We were also at Namaka Public School in Nadi on the island of Viti Levu in the Fiji Islands.

  I hope you enjoy looking at the pictures. We will be learning more about the students and schools this year.
