Advent
In class, the children and I have been reflecting on the season of Advent. We have an Advent calendar in our classroom which focuses on a different Bible verse and thought of the day. In addition, we have Advent journals where the children are writing the thought of the day and gives them time to reflect on what the message is trying to teach us. We have also had books entitled, "The First Noel" donated to our class. Each day the children and I read a Advent/Christmas related story or poem. Our poem of the week will focus on a Christmas Prayer, which we will practice from now until the beginning of Christmas break. Along with our hand print Advent wreath, the class has an empty manger. For every good deed we do during the Advent season, we write it on a piece of "straw" and place it in the manger. Once we have filled our manger, we will be ready for Baby Jesus! These activities are geared to guide us as we walk with Christ this Advent season!

Homework
Homework packets will be a little different next week in an attempt to make learning more meaningful and challenging for all our students. My goal is to differentiate student learning as much as possible so I will have what is called, "Leveled Homework". Your child will receive a packet that specific for their learning needs. What one student is doing for homework may be different for another student in the same class. Let me know if you have any questions when you receive your child's homework packet. Please remember - neatness is still a must even for homework. Encourage your child to produce their very best handwriting, etc. even while working on homework! Have a gggrrrrreaaaaaattt evening!

Second Week of School
The children continue to work on classroom rules and routines this second week of school. Today we practiced walking in line (one behind another, keeping hands to self, holding railing while walking up/down stairs, looking forward to make sure he/she doesn't get injured, etc.) and showing good manners towards each other. We are also modeling more of what our daily schedule will look like and what is expected of us during each subject. This morning we worked on "Calendar Binders", which reinforces many math concepts and skills. In the afternoon we started our reading workshop where we discussed our favorite reading memory, whether it be reading with a parent at bedtime, visiting Mrs. Metcalf in the library and sharing a good book, etc. Tomorrow we will start our writer's workshop routine! YIPPEEE!!!! Have a great evening!
