Linda S, I'm happy to be of help... so share away! I think the best thing a teacher can do is share what works with other teachers... and I have done that for 30+ years. Hope your school year is going great!
3/1/2012 11:40:56 AM - 002025530951
Taunya S, I'm sorry you are having trouble with the files, I just tried several of them and they opened fine for me. Maybe you could try at a later time if you have trouble? It seems that there may be higher "traffic" at certain times of the day and it prevents them from being opened. Hope you are having a wonderful year with your students.
2/29/2012 6:26:30 PM - 004085496248
I am not sure if you are aware of this or not but your files for Unit 4 are not opening anymore.
2/24/2012 8:48:57 PM - 004084899596
I absolutely love your web site and am sharing it with others!
2/5/2012 10:21:52 AM - 002025530951
Barbara, I just opened the pdf for writing. Maybe you could try again and hopefully it will work for you. I'm happy that my site has been of help to you and your students. Hope the rest of your year is great!
2/5/2012 10:19:11 AM - 002025530951
Tracy C, I'm sorry but I don't have access to the new 2011 common core edition, so I don't have any resources for that. Hope you find them somewhere on the www or maybe you could make your own? Best wishes to you and your class.
2/4/2012 11:17:13 PM - fb:71005200
I am unable to open the pdf unit 4 writing. Is there anyway you can reload this? I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now....almost to unit 5. Your resource has been so valuable to me and my students. Thank you.
11/6/2011 4:15:46 PM - 004055459123
I am looking for resources for the new 2011 common core edition. Everything is just a little different. Do you have any good resources for that?
9/27/2011 11:30:30 PM - 002025530951
Lauren J, thank you for your kind words... I am glad you have found my site helpful. I don't know of another site that has the RS Sound Spelling Cards. Have you thought about taking yours to a copy shop and having them copy and shrink them for you? I just used mine on my Focus Wall, so they were perfect for me. HTH
9/27/2011 11:27:15 PM - 002025530951
miriam d, I'm sorry but I don't know of any site that has Reading Street in Spanish... I was fortunate that my only Spanish student had a year of Pre K and K and picked up English very well, so the only thing I had to worry about was translating my monthly newsletters, progress reports and report cards. Maybe some one who visits my site has knowledge of someplace you could check out and will let you know. Wish I could be of more help to you.
9/21/2011 4:06:50 PM - 003009527528
I love this site!! I was wondering if you had or knew of another site that had RS Sound Spelling cards. The ones we are given are just so big, and hard to use for everyday practice. It would be wonderful to have some smaller (maybe index card size) cards to use! THanks so much!
9/16/2011 10:04:41 PM - 001048660345
These are really wonderful resources, but I was wondering if you know of anything similar for Reading Street in Spanish (Calle de la Lectura). This is my first year teaching with the program and I'm a bit overwhelmed.
8/28/2011 5:23:36 PM - 002025530951
I've added a file for Review Writing Prompt labels from KimL in Massachusetts. THANKS KIM L. for sharing with all of us!
8/28/2011 5:21:42 PM - 002025530951
gina m, I'm sorry but I don't know of any site right off hand. Maybe you could do a search for RS fluency passages for 1st grade. HTH
8/28/2011 5:20:40 PM - 002025530951
Barbara B, those files are in each unit's files. HTH
8/28/2011 5:19:42 PM - 002025530951
AngelP, I have not taken the files off my site... maybe try again later, they should open for you. HTH
8/26/2011 9:31:09 PM - 004018989553
I am looking for leveled reader passages to use for fluency drills. I found a site with only unit 1. Do you know where I could find Unit 2-5???
8/23/2011 1:08:55 AM - fb:71005200
Mrs. Langston, Thank you so much for the posters for my focus wall. Where are your comprehension skill and strategy and phonics skills?
8/22/2011 8:39:25 PM - 002039550579
Dear Mrs. Langston,
I am unable to view the focus wall files now. Will they be added again?
8/19/2011 1:44:29 AM - 001080831235
Hello Kathy hope you and your family are doing great. I have lost the chart that tells what posters to use for each story with the first grade Reading Street. Do you have one you can send me please, thank you.
7/31/2011 5:46:24 PM - 002025530951
DeAnnC, thank you for visiting my site... I don't plan to take it down, so unless Shutterfly takes it down you should have plenty of time to print the things as you need them. HTH
7/31/2011 5:44:46 PM - 002025530951
gina m, I printed a label sheet for each child in my class... and at first I put them in their journals... I just had them open them up to the first blank page and leave them on their desk top when it was time to go home. Later on I taught them how to put them in for themselves. I bought my bandsaw from Sears... about 150.00 when not on sale. I do woodworking too, so it has been a blessing. You might ask some of your friends if they have one and would do it for you... or your local high school may have a wood shop that could do them for you... good luck... we truly enjoyed using them!
7/26/2011 8:08:20 PM - 004028868901
I have to second all the positive comments on this blog. I have moved from K to first this year and that means learning all the Reading Street curriculum for a new grade. I will certainly benefit from all your hard work. You are an ange to share! I was wondering, now that you are retired, what will happen to you site? Will you continue to maintain it or do I need to download everything right away? DeAnn Cohn
7/1/2011 4:23:14 AM - 004018989553
I have another question....do you print a journal (label) sheet for each child in your class?? How do you put these in their journals? Do they do it or do you?? Thank you so much for your time!!

Mrs. Langston- I came across your site last yr when looking for reading street materials for gr 3.. I am now going to be teaching gr 1 and can use all your things!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
How did you cut the composition books in half so nicely?? I like the idea of using them like that :)
6/15/2011 10:17:54 PM - 002025530951
Ada, you are so very welcome! I'm happy to have been of help to you and for you to share with your coworkers. :)
6/15/2011 10:16:17 PM - 002025530951
Gina, I'm glad that you have found my site useful. I wish you much luck this oming year. I loved Reading Street. I have been retired for the past two years... I know that I covered antonyms... I just don't remember if it was in whole group or small group skills. You could always add that to your own Focus Wall... :)
6/14/2011 11:18:29 PM - 004019886761
Dear Mrs. Langston,
Thank you for all the work that you have provided! In my book you are the best. You saved me a lot of time. I will share this with my coworkers.

This site has saved me!!!! We will begin to use Reading Street this fall. I have 1 question....what about the vocabulary skills such as "antonyms" I noticed there was not an area on your Focus Board. Do you cover this area???

6/8/2011 11:49:11 AM - 002025530951
Lesley, I scanned the information from the student book and used PrintShop 22 to create the posters. The rest of the information I got from the teacher's manual, then used clip art when needed to create the posters to make them more visual for my students. Hope that helps. I spent many, many hours creating my Focus Wall posters, and I don't regret it at all. It was a huge bonus that really helped me teaching reading. :)
6/8/2011 11:43:53 AM - 002025530951
Kelly, I scanned the pictures for the "retelling" from the student book. Then inserted them into a MS Word document and saved them as pdf's. I'm sorry that I can't help you any more than that... but I am truly loving retirement! I spend my days with my husband of 44 years and our 2 year old granddaughter... life doesn't get any better than that as far as I'm concerned. However I do still miss the children... :)
6/8/2011 12:42:11 AM - 001075960675
Thanks for all the wonderful resources! You did a lot of work and it has been very helpful to me. I will begin to use this program in the fall and I had one question for you. Where/How did you find/create the retelling cards for the stories? In the newer program there are a total of about 8 stories that they have changed since you posted this and used it. If you could help me with this I would be very appreciative. Thanks!
5/25/2011 5:48:25 AM - 004012447599
thank you, I use Scott Foresman Reading Street as well and was wondering where do you get the Story title, author/illustrators, theme, and genre pictures/posters? Also where do you get the skills each week for the strategy focus and study skills from?
5/24/2011 10:39:27 AM - 002025530951
Lesly, I'm sorry but I do not know of a Kindergarten site at this time. If any of the teachers who visit my site know of one... PLEASE share the link. :)
5/24/2011 5:24:12 AM - 004012447599
saw your comment about a kindergarten site with these or similar materials, have you located one or know of one? I would love to know if so. thanks

This site is AWESOME, thanks so much for sharing. I am inspired to do my focus wall and implement some other things in my class.
3/9/2011 2:22:12 PM - 002025530951
Jennifer, I'm so happy to hear that my site has inspired and helped you AND that you are having a successful year! First grade was my favorite! Good luck in the years to come and I hope that you are able to stay in 1st grade for many years. It is demanding but the "returns" make it worth everything. :)
3/8/2011 5:42:18 PM - 003095723278
Your site is the bomb!! It inspired me to create my own focus wall, which in turn has inspired a 5th grade teacher at my school to create one. The resources you have available have helped me to have a successful first year in 1st grade. After teaching 4th grade the change was huge. You helped make it smooth and easy. Thank you.
2/27/2011 1:20:39 PM - 002025530951
LaTanya, the Black History activities I used in my classroom were copyright protected and I am unable to share them on this site. Hopefully you will be able to find activities that you would like to use with your students.
2/24/2011 3:48:27 PM - 003093518939
I love your site but I didn't see any Black History activities.
12/7/2010 9:34:22 PM - 003076654536
I love your site. The way you did the newsreels is so imaginative! Do you have a letter for the Santa's New Clothes template. We do a disguised Turkey, but Santa would be so cute. Marsha msullivan@fcsd.wnyric.org

Mrs. Langston, this site is amazing! This is Ruth Anne from Birmingham, Alabama and I use these resources all the time. Thank you!
11/16/2010 1:18:35 AM - 003069523623
Your site is fantastic! Someone may have already asked this question, but do you know of a kindergarten teacher who has a website like this?
11/14/2010 12:34:24 PM - 002025530951
Donna, I downloaded a copy of it this morning and it worked fine. Have you tried to right click on the file and save it to your computer, or did you just try to open it? It's a pdf file so I don't know why it wouldn't work for you. If you'll send me your email at TeachKathy@gmail.com I'll send the file to you.
I'm glad you are enjoying my site. :)
11/13/2010 4:33:42 PM - 003068654093
I really love your site. I tried to download a copy of santa's new suit but it will not allow me to. Is there a way you can help me?
Thanks, Donna
11/10/2010 12:15:48 PM - 002025530951
Tharon, I cut them myself using a band saw. It cuts smoothly and is very easy to use. Any other kind of electric saw chews up the edges and you run the risk of having the blade pull the journal AND your hand into it. If you don't have a band saw, ask your friends or at church. Sometimes high schools that have a shop class have band saws and could cut them for you. Hope this helps.
11/7/2010 12:02:31 PM - 003066396842
How do you cut the composition books in half for the morning warm up journal?
11/1/2010 7:49:22 PM - 002025530951
June, thank you for your comments. I am glad that the resources are helping you. I fixed the link... thank you for letting me know. I have emailed you the information regarding the pocket chart. I hope you have a wonderful year with your students. I am truly enjoying being retired.
11/1/2010 6:13:22 PM - 002086734127
Your site is truly amazing! Thank you for sharing your many, many hours of work with us. Your generosity continues to help thousands of children! Enjoy your retirement! If possible, can you see if it's possible to fix the Printable Center Links? They don't lead to anywhere. These centers would be invaluable. The Retelling Centers are marvelous. Many thanks and deep gratitude!
10/28/2010 8:30:05 PM - 002025530951
Nicole, I didn't realize that the Schema poster wasn't in the files for downloading. I will add it to the Unit 1 files now. I'm glad you are able to get something useful here to help you.
10/28/2010 8:16:10 PM - 002025530951
Thank you, Victoria! I'm glad to help. The small journals I bought as "regular" size and cut them in half using my bandsaw. If you don't have a bandsaw, check with your family or perhaps the high school in your district may have a woodworking shop with one, or someone at your church may be able to cut them for you. If you lived close by I would cut them for you! Good luck with the project. My first graders LOVED the smaller size.
10/28/2010 1:34:29 AM - 003064750635
Mrs. Langston Wow what a wonderful website; so creative bless you for helping teachers in need; I would like to get some of those small journals; where can I find them Thanks a bunch- vickey

Nichelle, Freida Lewis has some second grade materials on her site:
http://freidalewis.com/
You might also want to check out the FAVORITE LINKS section I have close to the top on the left of this page. CYBRARY MAN'S EDUCATIONAL WEB SITES has a lot of links for second grade also. Yahoo Groups has two second grade groups that you could also join. One is SFReadingStreet-2ndGrade and the other is secondgradeteachersintn
I hope that helps.
Have a wonderful year with your students!
8/10/2010 4:23:29 PM - 003046785914
Mrs. Langston, I LOVE your web page. All the resources are so wonderful and ALL in one place! Do you know of a second grade teacher who has done the same thing for second grade?
8/6/2010 11:15:28 AM - 002025530951
Shirley, if I wanted to keep the "original" site, I would create a "new" site and move the slideshows and pictures over to it. You can have more than one account with Shutterfly. You would probably want to name the new account with your name and year and then just add a link to it on one of your pages. Hope that helps.
8/6/2010 2:15:49 AM - 002029622476
Mrs. Langston, May I ask what you do with your slideshows and pictures from the previous year? I'm wanting to get my website ready for the new year and not sure what to do with what I have on there now. Thanks!
8/2/2010 3:48:12 AM - 003046313131

I am working on finishing the rest of the retelling cards center files. There was a problem with some of the ones I had uploaded, so I had to upload them as Word docs.
