In these last five weeks of school, the seniors are finishing their research papers. The juniors will be taking their EOI tests next week. The writing tests will be on Tuesday, April 23, and on Wednesday, April 24. The reading test will be held on Thursday, April 25.
Our student body worked so hard on their homecoming floats and skits this week! It was great to see the camaraderie, and I appreciate all of the parents who came out to help.
We have been working on our career research papers for several weeks now, and the final 5-8 page paper is due Friday, March 9! This is an absolute deadline! No late papers will be accepted. If you are sick on Friday, you must have someone else bring the paper to the school for you. You can do it!
The students will get the opportunity to dress up and show their Cordell spirit for basketball and wrestling homecomings! The dress up day schedule is as follows:
Tuesday, Jan. 31-Pajama Day
Wednesday, Feb. 1-Nerd Day
Thursday, Feb. 2-Hippy Day
Tuesday, Feb. 7-Celebrity Day
Wednesday, Feb. 8-When I Grow Up Day
Thursday, Feb. 9-Blue/White Day
We have been working hard this week on completing our outline, thesis statement, and works cited page in class this week. However, many students have been absent for baseball, speech, and soccer. Be sure to keep up with your deadlines! If you need help, just ask.
American Literature
English III focuses on American literature, and the material will be covered chronologically starting with colonial America. We will also work to improve our English language skills: reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and vocabulary. Special emphasis is placed on improving students' ACT English scores. Students will be required to writed a 5-7 research paper during the second semester. Also, students will prepare to pass the reading and writing sections of the English III EOI test which takes place in April.
British Literature
English IV focuses on British literature and the further development of English language skills: reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and vocabulary. Students will be expected to do much writing throughout the year to prepare for college composition classes including a portfolio project during the first semester and a 7-10 page research paper during the second semester.
Welcome Parents/Guardians and Students! My name is Mrs. Leppke, and I am excited to be your child’s English teacher this year. I strongly believe that students must be empowered to excel in anything they do. The main goal of the curriculum is to help students develop literacy appreciation and to improve their ability to express themselves through oral and written language. Please keep communication open and feel free to contact me or to visit our classroom. You may e-mail me at aleppke@cordell.k12.ok.us. You may call me at the school at (580)832-3420 ext. 217.
