One requirement for this marking period is to complete at least two packets that go along with the independent reading books. Students are getting daily opportunities to silent read and complete the packets that go along with the books. Each packet contains a reading log that students are to fill out each day with the pages that they read. The packets also contain a graphic organizer focusing on various comprehension skills. The third page of the packet has four "quick writes" where students have to write one to three sentences for each question, make a short list, or write a short letter.
These independent reading book packets are due by the end of the marking period which is November 4th. Students should have plenty of time in class to complete them.
This week we began our first workshop in READ 180. It is all about wildfires. The workshop includes a magazine article, a science text, and a personal narrative. Our five target words throughout the workshop are degree, fuel, rapidly, region, and survive. We will also be focusing on the comprehension strategy dealing with main idea and details. At the end of the workshop each student will write an expository paragraph. This week we started doing the instructional model with rotations.
