Welcome to our new student, Cole!
This is our first full week since Christmas break. All Reading and Spelling should be on our regular schedule now. Remember that the Reading story is due by Friday.
Our class is out of snacks. If you can provide a healthy snack for 13 students they would love it!!
Welcome to our new student, Jack!
Just a reminder that there is no school this Friday, Jan. 13 (Institute Day) or Monday, Jan. 16 (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day).
For this reason, we will have our final Spelling test on Thursday and the Reading story needs to be read and have signed slip returned on Thursday.
Also, our snacks need replinished. If you are able, please send in a healthy snack for 12 students.
Welcome back from Christmas Break!

We hope everyone has a nice Christmas break!! We will see the students back on Tuesday, January 3, 2012.
We would like to welcome our new student, Joseph, into our class!
Also, the classroom needs more snacks. If you can please send enough for 11 students. Thanks!
There will be no Reading story or Spelling this week due to the 2 day school week.
Please enjoy your time together and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Congratulations to our Alexis for completing the 5K for "Girls on the Run"! We are very proud of you!
Our classroom snacks are running low. Please send heathy snacks for 11 students.
Just a reminder that this is a 4 day school week. There is no school on Friday, November 11 in honor of Veteran's Day. We will be having an all school Veteran's Day assembly on Thursday. Papers should have went home with your child's homeroom class.
Makenzie's Dad came to visit our school and spoke during the assembly. Our Character Ed motto this year is "Defending Good Character". He, along with other local Fire Fighters, spoke about fire safety and took questions from students. Thanks Mr. Hamilton!
Reminder that there is no school Thursday and Friday (10/27 & 10/28) for Parent/Teacher conferences.
Thanks Dean for bringing in snacks for the class!! You are awesome!
TOMORROW IS PICTURE RETAKE DAY!
Thanks Jared for the snacks!!
Renfro school is saddened by the loss of one of our 4th grade teachers, Ellen Hann. If you would like to read Ellen's full obituary you can find it at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/belleville/obituary.aspx?n=ellen-s-hann&pid=154086022&fhid=8524
The "Heart Team" was in the school Friday to talk with her class and any students and faculty that needed them.
This week is Homecoming week at Collinsville High School. There is a Homecoming Parade on Thursday (see "Homecoming Parade" attachment just below this post!). The Renfro staff will be in the parade if your child would like to keep an eye out for us. Also, the Homecoming football game is on Friday at CHS.
4th Grade has a field trip on Tuesday with their homeroom teacher.
Our snacks are running low. If you can send a healthy snack (no peanuts or chocolate) for 11 students it would be appreciated!
Our class has earned a pizza party from the class store!! We will have the party on Monday, October 3rd during 3rd & 4th grade lunch and recess time. Please do not send a lunch with your child on Monday.
Great job 3rd & 4th graders for the entire class getting homework and school work done to earn this party!!
Thanks, John, for the classroom snacks!
This week our school is celebrating Grandparents! (Grandparent's Day was 9/11.) Your child's Grandparent activities are scheduled with their homeroom teacher. Fourth Grade is celebrating Monday and Third Grade is celebrating Thursday.
Our class has a classroom store. Students have a chance to earn pretend money for getting their work done in class, getting homework done, and good reports from adults. They may, on the other hand, owe money if they do not get homework done, or not writing their name on their work. Not only do they earn money individually, but if the entire class gets their work done or homework done they earn money in the classroom fund and decide on their reward together once they reach $1.00. On Fridays at first recess students have the opportunity to "buy" items with the money they have saved. (Coloring pages, Fee Homework Slips, Snacks, Prizes, Helping with Kindergarten during recess time) The students really seem to enjoy this and it helps give them incentive to complete classroom work and homework.
Thanks to Alexis for bringing in a classroom snack!
The Everyday Math Games apps will be free to download September 24-26 via the iTunes App Store. If you have an Apple iPhone, iPad, or iTouch you can download these apps for free to use with your children.
Thank you, Makenzie, for bringing in snacks for the class!
Welcome to our new student, Caden!
Our Reading story starts this week. Your child should have papers in their binder with all the information you will need. You can also check the "Reading" tab above. Each week your child will have a story to read for homework in the Reading book. On Monday your child will have the pages for the story written in his or her binder. These stories may be a bit difficult for your child to read by him/herself because they are in a grade level book. I recommend having someone read the stories with them to help with difficult words. These stories are very long and your child does not have to have the story completed until Friday. To help keep track of the assignment each Monday your child will bring home a slip to sign letting us know that the story was read. If your child does not complete this homework assignment, he or she will be required to pull a card just like any other imcomplete assignment.
Welcome to our new student, Keshawn!! We are excited you are in our class.
There will be no Reading story at home this week because of the shortened week. We should be ready next week to begin our stories at home.
You will find this week's Spelling words under the "Spelling" tab above, or in your child's binder. The Weekly Spelling Assignments listed on the site will be done in class. They will only be homework if your child does not complete them in class. If they have homework in our classroom it should be circled, or wrote in, on their Weekly Assignment Log in their binder.
Thanks to Jared and Mackenzie for bringing snacks! You both rock! ![]()
Thanks Alexis for the class snacks! You Rock!!
Thanks also to those that came to the Open House!
Typically we hand out Spelling words on Friday so that students have the weekend to study. This time we will come up with our list on Monday and they will have it in their binder Monday.

Also, we have been reviewing in class. We should be starting Spelling next week with a list the students will create in class. Our Reading story at home will start at a later date as we are reading in class right now.
We had an awesome first week of school! We have been getting to know each other and learn how our classroom works.
Our class eats a snack every day. Please send in healthy snacks for 10 students. Some great ideas are pretzels, crackers (graham, saltines, snack crackers), granola bars, and raisins. They must be store bought, no peanut products (allergy), no sugary snacks, and nothing that needs cut up.
Thanks for your help! We are off to a great year!

This week is Homecoming week at Collinsville High School, there will be a parade open to the public on Thursday, October 7th in downtown Collinsville (Main Street and Clay Street). The Renfro Staff will be participating in the parade. Come on out and see us and bring a bag to catch some candy.
Just a reminder that the Spelling words and the Story for the week are on the "Spelling" and "Reading" pages on this site.
Don't forget, there is a 1/2 day of school on Friday!!
We have been working on riddles during Journal time. First, we gave the student 3 line riddles to see if they could guess what they were. Next, they had to come up with a 3 line riddle to see if Mrs. Mason or I could guess it. Now they are writing a riddle about themselves to put in our hallway.
Our students have been earning classroom money for getting work done in class and doing homework. They have the opportunity on Fridays to use the money in our classroom store. They really are enjoying getting their money and some are saving it for larger items they can purchase.
Just a reminder that entire class has a snack every morning. Thanks to those that have sent in a snack to share. If you would like to send in a healthy snack for all 11 students, you may send them with your child. They must be store bought, no peanut products (allergy), no sugary snacks, and nothing that needs cut up.
Have a great week!!
In today's binder your child will have a new Spelling list for next week (9/7 - 9/10). We send words home on Friday so they can start studying them over the weekend. Also in the binder is an explanation of Spelling from here on out. Please look over it and sign the 1/2 sheet saying that you have done so.
Have a great holiday weekend!
Mrs. Miller
Our class is off to a great start! Everyone has been working hard on our routine, journal, and reading this week.
Our Spelling lesson for next week will be a student generated Spelling list. Our Spelling assignments are on the assignment sheet and if they have it as homework they should circle it. Otherwise, if it is not circled, it should mean they completed it in class.
We will also start our classroom store next week. The students get classroom money for completing homework, completing work in class, and good reports from adults in the building. They have to pay us if they do not do their homework (and pull a card, and complete it at recess) , forget their name on work, and other occurrences as we see necessary to add. Once a week we will have our store open and they may purchase items with the money they have earned. We also have whole class earned money for the entire class completing their homework with great prizes for the entire class once a certain amount is reached. Please help your child succeed at this fun program and make sure homework is completed.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
This section will be for posts for all to see. We will put our classroom news, any requests for the classroom, and good news for our students. You may "comment" on the class news and we will get the message.
Thank you for sharing your child with us this year. We have had a wonderful school year with lots of learning and lots of fun! We look forward to seeing our incoming 4th graders again next year and wish our outgoing 4th graders the best of luck at D.I.S. Have a great summer!!
Mrs. Mason
Mrs. Miller
There will be no more stories to read at home this school year. Please send the Reading book back to school. We will be reading a chapter book, "Twister on Tuesday", together in class. This weeks Spelling Words are all taken from the book.
Remember that Tuesday, May 4th, is 1/2 day for students.
Sorry for getting the Spelling Words and Story on the computer a little late this week. We are all getting back in the swing of things after all the ISAT testing.
Welcome to our new classmate!
Check out the new pictures on the "Photo" page.
Ask your child about our new classroom store. This should help them with counting money and encourage them to get their school/homework completed!
ISAT Bootcamp has begun for the 3rd and 4th grade. We take a short amount of time each day to help prepare the students for the ISAT tests with general skills they need for test taking. We will continue Bootcamp through 2/26.
ISAT testing will begin 3/2. Please help your child do their best by making sure they get plenty of sleep, have a good breakfast, and are at school (on time) during test taking.
Our class is running low on snacks. If you can, please send in a healthy snack to share. There are 13 in our classroom.

Rather than handing out all of the notes and papers that we use to do in the past, we are directing Renfro Families to the Collinsville Unit 10 website. There you will find postings of announcments and flyers that will inform you of events that are happening in our community that may be of interest to you.
http://www.kahoks.org/community/upcoming-events.html
Our class goes to library on Wednesday. Books need returned on or before that day to check out a book and participate in our library time.
All journals need to be at least 5 sentences with at least 5 words in each sentence, in paragraph form. The first sentence should be the Main Idea and the following sentences should support that idea. (Don't forget to indent!!)
Example:
I feel happy because I had a great weekend. On Friday I went to a bonfire with friends. Saturday came and my family had friends come to our house. Sunday was Halloween and we were in a parade. We also had birthday cake with friends. All these things made me happy!
