My Educational Philosophy

My philosophy of education is very similar to an age old saying about leading a horse to water...  I believe that you have to teach a child to love learning before you can make them learn.  Children have a natural curiosity born unto them that makes them want to learn, but as a teacher or parent, you have to give them desirable opportunities and situations in which to do the learning.  You can lead a child to school, but that doesn't make them learn.  But...if you make school a fun, exciting place to be, well then, the school is their oyster.  They will become engaged and enthusiastic about learning!  Therefore, when you visit our classroom, you should expect to see children working together, children learning at a variety of centers around the room, and children talking about what they are doing.  Our classroom involves a lot of discussion and activity, and most of the time children are not sitting quietly at their tables.  I expect this year to be one filled with exciting happenings and I have many units planned to arouse your child's curiosity about his/her world!

Happy Birthday!!!

Please Remember

Please send any money for school in an envelope or baggie with your child's name, grade, teacher, and purpose of the money labeled on it.  Thank You!

About Mrs. Moss

I am Mrs. Moss and I teach first grade!  I have two sons whom I love dearly.  My oldest son is entering third grade this year and my youngest is about to turn 5.  I also have a sweet puppy at home named Bertha, not to mention an extremely helpful and patient husband whom I adore and who often helps prepare activities at home for school.  I have been teaching for 16 years and have found first grade to be the most rewarding grade to teach so far!  In first grade, children are learning how to read and write and are such curious learners about the world in which they live.  The excitement of this age on a daily basis makes me come to school each day enthusiastically ready to teach these young minds something new!  I love my job and consider myself lucky to have such a fulfilling profession in which to work.  I look forward to teaching your child this year!

Personal Headsets

I would like to give you all the opportunity to purchase individual headphones for your children for this year.  You can purchase some called earbuds at Walmart for the price of $1.50; however, I am finding that some children do not like the feel of those kind in their ears, and some children have a very difficult time keeping them in.  You may purchase the earbuds or you may choose to buy an actual set of headphones.  While more expensive, the cost ranges from about $5.00-10.00 or even more.  Please write your child's name somewhere on the headphones before sending them in.  We will use these headphones during times at the computer or the listening center and your child will keep them in his/her backpack in a ziploc bag with his/her name on it. You may send them in whenever you like.
