January 2012

From the Desk of Principal Snobeck ...

Hard to believe but...
One half the school year is over and we are beginning our 2nd semester. I encourage you to volunteer in the classroom if possible. Teachers can always use another pair of hands. It could be helping students read, putting up bulletin boards, tutoring, monitoring centers, etc. The more parents or grandparents we can get into Journey the better we become.

A quiet month:
As I look through the calendar of events for January things look pretty quiet. Stop Motion Club begins as well as our Wii Fitness Club. The PTO will have an after school Bake Sale and PTO meeting on the 12th. Other wise, a pretty routine month.

2nd Quarter Report Cards...
We will send home the second quarter report cards on Tuesday January 10, 2012. This will give the teachers a little more time to post before we run and verify them. Of course, there should be no surprises because of good teacher/parent communication. But if you do have any questions contact the teacher.

Cheese sandwiches?...
Please make sure your child / children have money in their lunch account/s. We do not want to feed children cheese sandwiches because Mom and Dad have have not added money. The district is looking at better ways to remind you that your account is bleak, but until that time, when an account warning is sent home with your child then is the time to get more money into your account. I dislike making the phone calls and having to discuss lunch account problems with parents.

Orange cones...
For the safety of our children, parents, and visitors, we have placed orange cones in a small section of the drive in front of the school. This  section is curb free with 4 orange cones designating no parking. This area is congested, especially after school, with people going to and from the parking lot, children on bikes, walkers, and children riding scooters/ribstix. We do not need anyone to get injured because of parking convenience. Much to my disbelief, we occasionally have people parking in the coned area to pick up children disregarding the orange cones. Student safety is my only concern and I would appreciate parent cooperation.

Did you know
...
A red blood blood cell will travel 27 feet in one minute. After a red blood cell leaves the left side of the heart, it will travel through arteries, capillaries, and veins then back to the right side of the heart. The cell travels the fastest in the arteries because of the greater pressure. It slows down to almost a standstill as it passes through the microscopic capillaries, then speeds up once it gets into the larger veins. The red blood cell can take many paths as there are 60,000 miles of blood vessels in the body.
