Thank you so much!
A special thanks to Mrs. Allegood and Mrs. McInarnay for all of their hard work getting us ready for the fall carnival! What a great success. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Fall Carnival
Reaching out for parent help! Friday, November 6th is Chaffee Trail's 3rd annual Fall Carnival. Our room mom, Nelda Allegood, is looking for parents who can and are willing to help set our booth up and also help run the booth the night of the carnival. If you are able to help you can write a note in your child's agenda or email me at rocke1@duvalschools.org and I will get your information to Mrs. Allegood. We are also asking that each student donate a back of individually wrapped pieces of candy for the prizes for our booth.
Our class is also sharing a basket for our silent auction with Mrs. Corbitt's class. Our basket is "Children's Books" If you are able to donate a new book for our basket I would greatly appreciate it! All items for the basket need to be in by next Wednesday so that Mrs. Corbitt and I can prepare the basket. Thank you in advance for any help you are able to give to make this a fun experience or all involved!!
Updates
Yesterday I sent home a letter explaining spelling investigations for this school year. Please let me know ASAP if you are able to help with this activity on Fridays. As I explained this is a great resource for students to learn how to spell words that meet THEIR needs. But it requires a lot of extra time and help :)
I also sent home another scholastic order. Again please do not feel like you have to place an order. The option is just there. I will be sending another order home at the beginning of December...trying to get all of those holiday options out to you before winter break. This order that I just sent home is due back to me no later than Friday, November 6th. This way I can get the order to you prior to Thanksgiving Break.
A special thanks to Paige and Adlen whose parents ordered online last time and WON us 3 free books for our classroom! Thank you! Also thank you to Kenley who placed an order and received lots of great books for her at home library :)
FYI: There is no school on Monday October 26th. This is a teacher planning day.
Our Character parade this year will be on Friday, October 30th. There is a flyer going home about this today. Please check your child's agenda daily and remember to initial it!!
Books
I was able to get scholastic book orders out this morning before my training! ENJOY your books Adlen, Paige and Kenley!!
Scholastic Book orders are here!
To my parents who ordered books...they are in. I apologize that they will not be going home until Friday as I am out of class again tomorrow for more training. Wanted to give you an update though.
For those of you who missed out this time....no worries...there is another order going home in a few weeks!

Good Monday!
Hello. I hope you all had a nice weekend! Today your child will be coming home with a scholastic book order. There is a letter attached that explains how you may place an order online or send the order form back to me if you are interested in ordering books. This is a great way for you to order books for your child while also helping our classroom get FREE books! If you place an order and would like it to be a surprise please let me know so that I don't give the books directly to your child :)
Tomorrow is our first Flag Raising Ceremony of the year. Don't forget to have your child wear RED, WHITE, and BLUE !We will find out what Mrs. Walker's reading goal is for the school and what she will be doing if we meet it!!
Thank you to all of you who helped your child remember to do their homework last week and turn it in! We are really trying to learn RESPONSIBILITY this year! Don't forget--Cookie Dough fundraiser is due FRIDAY!!
Fundraisers
Today your child will be coming home with two fundraisers.
Our first fundraiser is Otis Spunkmeyer Cookie Dough! This is always a favorite and brings in lots of funds for our school. All orders and MONEY are due by Friday September 18th!
The second fundraiser going home is the ReachOut Magazine Program. This fundraiser is helping to raise funds to buy die-cuts for our ellison machine. These are resources that the teachers use for bulletin boards, etc. The best part about this fundraiser is you DON'T have to SELL anything! Just fill out the booklet with friends/families name and addresses, return it to school and we will send it off for you. If you would like an extra booklet please let me know! This fundraiser ends THIS Friday, September 11th!
Thank you for your help in making these fundraisers a success for our school!

Thank you!
Many thanks to all of you came to Open House last night! It was so nice to see most of you again and meet some new faces :) I did have one parent volunteer to be a room mom, but she is interested in having a "helper". So if anyone is interested in helping out in our classroom or volunteering to help with our fall festival please let me know.
Remember: NO SCHOOL MONDAY! Enjoy your 3 day weekend!
Open House
Don't Forget! Open house is THIS Thursday, September 3rd @ 6:30pm. I hope to see you all there!
Scrapbook
Thank you to everyone who has done their "All About Me" scrapbook page. The class and I have really enjoyed getting to know more about every student! Our book still has some empty pages so keep working and we look forward to seeing our completed scrapbook by Open House :)
Homework
Homework will begin the week of September 8th. Homework folders will go home every Monday and need to be returned every Friday. Homework will consist of a reading log and response as well as math activities. Thank you for your help in ensuring that this work is completed weekly.
How Full is Your Bucket?
Ask your child to tell you about our sand buckets! First grade has set a reading goal for the year of 360 books per student. That means that each student needs to read AT LEAST 90 books each nine weeks to meet this goal. You can help your child by helping him/her to record every book he/she reads at home. Students will also be recording books read in class. I promise you it can be done! Check back later for more details on our school wide reading goal!
