Communities
We are now starting a Social Studies unit about Communities!!
Good-Bye Butterflies!
All four of our caterpillars survived and turned into butterflies. During Friday Prize last week, we set them free! The students loved watching them fly outside.
September 6, 2011
I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend! We now have two butterflies and two chrysallis' in the classroom. The students have loved watching the butterfly life cycle process. We will continue to write about our butterflies but we will now begin a Social Studies theme called Communities! More to come....l
Butterflies and Life Cycles
We have been studying butterflies and their life cycle in class. We have Painted Lady caterpillars in the classroom and have been writing about our observations in Science Journals. We've been observing them for about a week and today the students observed a couple of the caterpillars attaching themselves to the top of the container. We've been studying words such as metamorphosis, caterpillar, larva, milkweed, and proboscis just to name a few. The students are really excited to see the changed in the caterpillars every morning as they walk in the door. We will continue to observe and learn about butterflies in the next few weeks. We will be learning about the Monarch butterflies migration path and get a little Geography into the mix!
Beginning of School
Things have been going great in our 2nd grade class. The students are starting to get settled and are working really hard. We have been working on classroom routines and rules. Everyone is doing a wonderful job.
